CELEBRATIONS

Australia celebrated its annual Day at the Races on Tuesday...

It was Melbourne Cup Day:

Our friends D & M came to the Cardinal Nest for champagne, lunch, champagne, a racing quiz, champagne, a little sweepstake, and more champagne..

That fruity tablecloth from Florence is enjoying life in the antipodes...

while M's lime and lemon cheesecake was melt-in-the-mouth delicious..

I'll begin the diet tomorrow...

because we also celebrated my Dad's 94th over the weekend.
We asked him when he was born, and, while it took a while, he correctly answered 1920!

Here he is opening some chocolate from Venice:

I explained that he only had six birthdays to go before the big 100.
Which brought a big grin to his face :-)

Remember Felicity Kendal, who played the cute and adorable Barbara in
The Good Life? (back in the day)..

She's in town, starring in Noel Coward's Hay Fever..
This was my favourite moment..
Playing a retired stage star, Judith,
Felicity sings in French, and is - yes, still cute and adorable.

Loved it...
on at the Optus Playhouse until the 8th

Christmas is coming...
Be good..

  5. It sounds like you have been busy! Happy birthday wishes to your dad. It was nice you were able to bring a smile to his face by reminding him he will be 100 in just six short years. I hope you have been able to replenish your champagne supply. :-)

    1. Hello Mette, yes a busy and fun week. You would have admired the beautiful horses, but very sadly, the favourite horse, from Japan, collapsed and died after the race. It was very shocking indeed. It is quite hot, but very dry at the moment. Happy weekend to you.

  12. New Zealand stops for the running of the Melbourne Cup and there are lots of celebratory lunches, with 'best hat' competitions!
In my early twenties I lived in Melbourne for about 18 months and went to one Cup day which was a lot of fun!
Your table looks very festive and the cloth from Florence is beautiful.
Happy 94th Birthday to your dear Dad, Patricia!
Felicity Kendall is a real star - I wish it was coming to Auckland too....

  13. Aha, New Zealand also have the Cup Fever! How much fun to have been to the Cup; I live in hope, maybe next year?
Felicity was quite a star, and really the highlight of the play. Some people have that special quality which just radiates from the stage.
