Australia celebrated its annual Day at the Races on Tuesday...
It was Melbourne Cup Day:
Our friends D & M came to the Cardinal Nest for champagne, lunch, champagne, a racing quiz, champagne, a little sweepstake, and more champagne..
That fruity tablecloth from Florence is enjoying life in the antipodes...
while M's lime and lemon cheesecake was melt-in-the-mouth delicious..
I'll begin the diet tomorrow...
because we also celebrated my Dad's 94th over the weekend.
We asked him when he was born, and, while it took a while, he correctly answered 1920!
Here he is opening some chocolate from Venice:
I explained that he only had six birthdays to go before the big 100.
Remember Felicity Kendal, who played the cute and adorable Barbara in
The Good Life? (back in the day)..
She's in town, starring in Noel Coward's Hay Fever..
This was my favourite moment..
Playing a retired stage star, Judith,
Felicity sings in French, and is - yes, still cute and adorable.
Loved it...
on at the Optus Playhouse until the 8th

ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle, Dad would love it if he understood all the online wishes he receives! xx
DeleteA special week with your father turning 94.
ReplyDeleteLucky you seeing Felicity Kendal in a classic Noel Coward piece.
We are amazed Dad has made it to 94. He was convinced he would not make 60!
DeleteFelicity Kendal is so charming, a delight to see her.
Oh 94, Happy Birthday Dad! Mum just turned 92 and I am so fretful everyday, I want more and more and more birthdays with her.
ReplyDeleteLovely tablecloth up there too.
And a special Happy Birthday to your beautiful Mum, too. I hope you do have many more to come.
DeleteBerry tablecloth sends its regards!
It sounds like you have been busy! Happy birthday wishes to your dad. It was nice you were able to bring a smile to his face by reminding him he will be 100 in just six short years. I hope you have been able to replenish your champagne supply. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe have had a busy week, and now Little Aussie is coming - Yay! Thank you on behalf of Dad, who had a great time. We will need more bubbles for Christmas, won't we?
DeleteYou've been having fun! Glad to see your Dad celebrating is 94th. I am dreaming of a piece of that cheesecake myself.
ReplyDeleteDarla
Fun indeed, Darla. I must get the recipe for that cheesecake - then I can publish it.
DeleteHappy birthday to your Dad! His party looks like lots of fun. Your cheesecake looks delicious and I was so happy to see the fruity tablecloth again. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jennifer, lots of party action this week. Maybe the fruity tablecloth will look good for Christmas.
DeleteOh my, you really have had your balls in the air! So many happy events, great weather - I assume. The horse race.
ReplyDeleteYes, enjoy, and start the diet later on..
Hello Mette, yes a busy and fun week. You would have admired the beautiful horses, but very sadly, the favourite horse, from Japan, collapsed and died after the race. It was very shocking indeed. It is quite hot, but very dry at the moment. Happy weekend to you.
DeleteLooks like you had a wonderful day Patricia..
ReplyDeletelove your tablecloth.. and your dad's cake ..what a great age..
wishing you a happy week .. val x
We had a very special day for Dad's birthday Val, and it is indeed a great age. Glad you like the cheerful cloth, which will have a lot of summer use. Happy weekend dear Val. xx

ReplyDeleteThank you Amy, It has been an exciting week. Back to quiet time now, especially with the G20 in our city next weekend. xx
DeleteNew Zealand stops for the running of the Melbourne Cup and there are lots of celebratory lunches, with 'best hat' competitions!
ReplyDeleteIn my early twenties I lived in Melbourne for about 18 months and went to one Cup day which was a lot of fun!
Your table looks very festive and the cloth from Florence is beautiful.
Happy 94th Birthday to your dear Dad, Patricia!
Felicity Kendall is a real star - I wish it was coming to Auckland too....
Aha, New Zealand also have the Cup Fever! How much fun to have been to the Cup; I live in hope, maybe next year?
ReplyDeleteFelicity was quite a star, and really the highlight of the play. Some people have that special quality which just radiates from the stage.
Wow, celebrations all the way, Patricia. There's something very festive about a big race day and of course your father's 94th birthday is very much something to celebrate. I hope he enjoyed his Venetian chocolate. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, celebrations indeed, Perpetua. Dad loved the Venetian chocolate, and broke off a third of the block and consumed it immediately! You can do that when you are 94...
DeleteWhat a lovely post Patricia. The champagne lunch sounded wonderful, such a great idea to get in the mood for Race day. The lime and lemon cheesecake looked yummylicious. Have a good week. P x
ReplyDeleteThank you Patricia. Australians love their champagne celebrations! Hope you are enjoying the beautiful Autumn over there. xx
DeleteHappy Birthday to your dear dad, Patricia. He looks so sweet there with his Venice chocolate. That lemon cheesecake looks delightful. I love anything with lemon. Australia's Day at the Races sounds wonderful. I'm glad you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to tell you that I just bought a white snow globe with four red cardinals sitting on branches. It reminded me of you. I will maybe post about it soon. Have a good week, my friend.
love,
~Sheri
Thank you Sheri, Dad really loves chocolate, and why not? We might give him some more for Christmas.
DeleteLove love love the sound of your globe. Please post a picture! I have a few red cardinal Christmas decorations, which I must find and put out. Very Soon. xx
