VIVA MAGENTA AND SOME TRAVEL TALK

Quick off the mark, Pantone has announced the 2023 Colour of the Year:

Viva Magenta!

Is is purple or is it red?

Illustrations seem to vary, and I have not seen it on any fashion items in the shops - yet...

I guess it is something like this trouser suit, a bluish red.
Red is a colour I rarely wear, although every few years I seem to invest in one red item...

Five years ago when we visited Canada in the depth of Winter, I made a red wool dress which makes an occasional appearance..

Do you like to wear red?   or Magenta?

Happy Birthday to Catherine, Princess of Wales, seen here in her first State Reception since receiving her new title.
I think she looks incredibly elegant, and will continue to perform her role beautifully as the years go by..

In other royal news, I read today that King Charles and Camilla will soon depart on a short overseas tour, the first since he ascended the throne.

I will be looking out for a new tour wardrobe for the Queen Consort, having a particular interest in nice clothes for women of, ahem, a certain age...

I really liked her deep blue gown with sapphires...

They are going to a few places I have loved:

Paris.  Everybody loves Paris.

2014: The last time I saw Paris...

Berlin:  we loved it in 2018

The museums are astonishing - we had a fabulous five days there..and five nights at the Opera or the Symphony - bliss!

We saw the great Daniel Barenboim, conducting the Debussy opera 'Pelleas and Melisande'.
I thought I had died and gone to Heaven...

and not just because they had champagne and bagels at the Opera...

Ah, travel.
I hope the King and Queen enjoy a little of the Arts as well as the official aspects of their tour.
I think they deserve a little break after the intensity of the past few months...

Have a great week.
I am starting to plan for our Canada trip this year.
So much to think about!

  1. Interesting that it is the colour of the year. I like many colours but this is one that I really don't care for, it seems hard to tell what it is and is neither light nor dark!!!!! Those are nice photos of you in Paris.

    1. It is indeed a strange colour! I so loved Paris on a number of visits, no wonder I look gleeful :)

  2. Kate always looks stunning in her attire.
Magenta is a colour that I cannot wear but I do like how rich it looks on others and in home decorating…you must be getting excited for your upcoming trip to Canada!
Paris is a marvellous city…I was there in 2015 and 2019….such lovely memories. For now we plan to stay local. Many of our friends are back travelling, some are in Europe, and some are enjoying warmth and sunshine on cruises in NZ and Australia.
    Happy New Year!

    1. Thanking back, I only remember having one dress in what was probably Magenta, and that was over 40 years ago. It might look rather harsh on me now. I remember when you went to Paris, such lovely blog posts. How fun that you have friends doing the NZ and Australian cruises, which many of our friends do also. Happy New Year!

  3. Magenta is not my colour either - a very dark burgundy would be acceptable.
I know that you are great royal fan, but how do you feel about the hatchet job that Harry has done on all of his immediate family over the past week?
Lots for you to look forward in May - I sense your excitment.

  4. Dearest Patricia,
Not a red fan either but this magenta does not look bad.
Princess Catherine is by far the most classy and elegant person of the royal family in the UK. Like Rosemary mentioned here above, Harry and his other half had better kept their mouths shut...
BUT you show a lovely rose at the beginning and some happy travel moments—and now spring in Canada awaiting you and your camera!
Enjoy the time of preparation and looking forward—dreaming about that time.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Maybe a magenta blouse would be nice? The rose bush was a birthday gift from my sister. It is gorgeous. Yay for Canada!

  5. Camilla looks better every outfit
    Catherine always looks stunning

Magenta is a color that sits fully on the fence of pink and red with a very light tint of purple/blue. Red owns it though. Wearing, velours, velvets are where the color stands out best. Satins, it kind looks too bleeding going on. Beautiful color. Cheerier than last year's sage green.

    1. Yes, Camilla wears some beautiful things these days. I love that she is 75 and has embraced her role so graciously. Thank you for a good description of Magenta. I wear cool tones, so maybe it is one for me. But not in satin!

  6. Hello Patricia,
I'm not very fond of red, but magenta I'll wear occasionally. I wear cool colours and sometimes they are difficult to find. I so admire William and Catherine and find her wardrobe always elegant and appropriate. I'm appalled at Harry's spillage of emotion - to what end? Discrediting his family? Not a way to make amends.
You must be eagerly anticipating your trip in May.

    1. I think we have the same colouring, Lorrie - my hair was the same as yours before it went white. This week I saw some nice clothes in a shop where they were all shades of gold and pumpkin - not my colour at all. Looking forward to seeing what appears in Magenta. Discrediting family is never good. So sad.

  7. Hello dear Trish!
I love red - and magenta, pink, orange - all of those kind of warm passion colors. I don't wear a ton of it either, but do have some. I love seeing what all the royals wear too. ;) I haven't been to Paris since 1999 - sad to say! I hope to get back there one day, and other parts of Europe that I've seen and some that I haven't.
I bet you're so excited for your upcoming trip! I can't wait to hear all about it. If you get a minute pop over and join the giveaway I'm doing for my blogaversary. I'll ship to Australia! 😊 Have a wonderful weekend ahead. xoxo

  8. Hello Trish. It’s Pat here a place for-everything. Thankyou for your comment on my last post. I’m still trying to get my head around this. Things have changed since I was last here. I seem to be Anonymous with no photo or blog name. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks from Px

    1. Hello Pat. Blogger has changed so much, every year they seem to take away some useful facility. I now find that if I try to write a blog reply on my phone, I also become 'anonymous'! I wish I could help, but alas I am technically completely inefficient and just soldier on. I was hoping to write blogs using my phone when we travel. Could be interesting :) I will know it is you if you just leave your name there. xxx

  9. First things first, mmm, that fresh pretzel looks good!

I can no longer comment as myself on Chrome, but I'm usually on Safari on my laptop, so I read blogs on Safari, but then must remember to log back on using Chrome to leave comments, but will soldier on also, Trish.

I like Viva Magenta very much. It seems bright and yet more wearable than pure red. Am I the only one who thinks this?

  10. Oh dear, this year isn't for me, then. I am not a magenta fan at all. It always reminds me of bubblegum :) Red is something else. I love it, although rarely wear it. I shall look forward to hearing more about your forthcoming travels, Trish!

  11. My mom loved to wear Magenta, or Burgundy, which is similar. It's a deep color that suited her. Your Paris photos are lovely, and it's interesting to see the Eiffel from the ground up. The champagne and bagel look Yummy. I bet this has been a fun time for you planning your Canada trip this year. I hope this happens, and it all goes well, Patricia. : )

  12. The rose in your post is truly lovely. My recent beet dyed papers are close to that color when dry. I do think you could dye some lace with beet juice. Let me know if you try it. I'm not susre I care for Magenta. Sometimes it has too much brown in it for my liking. It looks muddy. Maybe I need to try looking aat more samples.
