Around and About

We recently spent a warm Spring Sunday visiting Elderflower Farm, a boutique flower farm and florist about an hour's drive to the Scenic Rim area.

While we were a few weeks late for the best of the Spring blooms, we did enjoy the long beds of dainty annuals: poppies, stocks, sweetpea, and many others.

There is a shop, where I bought a bouquet to take home:

Rustic style, and full of garden related gift items, many pertaining to bees...

and a cafe where we enjoyed a delicious carrot cake...

Later, we drove to the nearby township of Kalbar, where we found this unique and picturesque country church..

In other news, I am back working as a tour guide at GoMA in Brisbane.

This is the final week of the fascinating exhibition 'Chiharu Shiota: The Soul Trembles'.

Chiharu Shiota is a Japanese performance and installation artist.  She is internationally known for her transformative, large-scale installations constructed from millions of fine threads, forming complex webs that spill from wall to floor and ceiling.  They express the intangible: memories, dreams, anxiety and silence..

Mr Red Cardinal made an appearance...

The myriad of threads in the large gallery space are stunning -
it is like a journey to an alien world...

This exhibition closes on October 3.

Enjoy the season

Gorgeous flowers. The Shiota exhibit is fascinating. Imagining the hours it took to create her artworks is mind boggling.

    1. Thank you Salty! The Shiota works are incredible. There is a grid in the ceiling and the threads are all suspended from there. It can then be packed away and transported.

    1. I love that dress too, Mary :) As you pack your Summer away, I am now washing, dry cleaning, and packing away Winter. Shioto is very creative and original, and the works are stunning, very large and spectacular, especially on first sighting.

  4. It's so nice to see spring flowers blooming even as our autumn ones continue. Your blue and white summer dress is so pretty, and I can imagine it would be cool for your hot summer days. The art installation is amazing and would be a wonderful sight. I'm always amazed at the varied ways of creativity of others. Enjoy your volunteer time.

    1. I like to think of the continuity as the flowers continue around the world. I am trying to keep pansies alive until near Christmas. Volunteering at the gallery is the best job I ever had :)

  5. You couldn't have picked a better background to surround Mr. RED Cardinal, and I love that photo of you too.
A visit to Elderflower Farm looks a great place for a day out, and the exhibition at GoMA really fascinating.

    1. I agree, Rosemary. I had to push him into the space, but it was a good opportunity, he he. I'm already planning another, slightly earlier, visit to Elderflower Farm next year.

  6. Wow, that artwork is something else. It seems like it would take a long time to create those webs. What a nice visit to the Elderflower farm. It's bursting with flowers. I especially like those pink blossoms. The weather was nice for you also. I hope you enjoy your time working as a tour guide again. That sounds very interesting. Oh, and thank you for the bigger font - your post was much easier for me to read. I appreciate that, Patricia.

    1. Hello Sheri, I need to remember to change up the font each time, as I can't figure how to make it a default. Please let me know if I forget, and thank you for letting me know. Glad you like our pink blossoms, which are outside the front door. Those thread webs are the most astonishing thing to see, and there are several rooms of them. It has been a popular exhibition.

    1. Hi Mariette, much as I would love to be a garden tour guide, I am actually a guide at the Queensland Art Gallery. Ranunculus are one of my favourites, but I could not remember their name, silly me. Happy Fall for you :)

  8. Sounds like a splendid afternoon in a charming town with a lovely art exhibit. We're having some days in the 70s F followed by days in the 50s F, all in the same week. I'm hoping for a stretch of Indian summer days (I'm unsure if Aussies use this term? It's means early fall that is so warm it feels like summer still). Our falls seem to go straight into winter. I'll have to come here to get through them. :)

    1. Yes, I have read of Indian Summer, and understand it, although have not heard the term here for a long time. Our Fall is not as obvious or brilliant as yours, although it is still my favourite season. We did enjoy our day out and the Flower Farm. Before the Summer gets too hot we will try for a few more excursions.
