EASTER

I hope you enjoyed a pleasant Easter season..

I made a pink bear years ago, during the Great Teddy-bear phase of the 90s..

Perhaps she will find another home with our new granddaughter - but not yet!

Yellow Easter lilies from Mr Red Cardinal:
and naturally, chocolate was consumed...

We had lovely visits to family.
Family is key, especially in these troubled times.

I spent a few hours making a baby blanket.
The lace bunny was given to be over 12 years ago, when our first grandchild was expected.
Five boys later, at last I can applique a couple of pink bunnies to the pink blanket.

They came in a string, like this:

You cut them apart, pull a little gathering thread, and up pops a bunny:

The skirt is double, and I tucked a bit of toy wadding in there to make a soft round body.  Then I hand stitched the head to the body and onto the blanket.

I still have two more from the set, for another project.

Do you sew for grandchildren?  I'd love to know..

During the Easter school holidays, local children do interesting things.
This basket of Rosemary was left beside the path in the park where I walk.
What a lovely gesture... Free Home-grown Rosemary.

I enjoy the pastel colours of Easter, so naturally was drawn to the Cambridge girls in their Easter finery, walking to St George's chapel on Easter Sunday.

What a pretty shade of blue.
Charlotte is about to turn seven.  I notice she is still in the 'uniform' she has been given since a toddler: sweet floral prints with a smocked bodice and dainty collar.
I can't help but wonder when she will rebel, and demand something different for special occasions??

Kate's blue clutch = Perfection..

Poor Ukraine continues to suffer.
The world is helping as much as it dares, but where will it end?
May goodness triumph over evil, in their time of need.

Be safe, take care

  1. I am pleased that you have spent a happy Eastertime Patricia.
I didn't think it would be long before you would have the pink thread out and that blanket is absolutely lovely. The pink teddy, I am sure, will go down as a real hit one day too.
Charlotte's dress is just like the ones my mother dressed me in - a peterpan collar, lots of smocking, and all made out of a pretty dainty flower print material.
PS - although I have been able to comment here, I am finding it difficult to answer comments on my own blog. Blogger continues to give problems ever since it switched into its new format.

    1. Thank you Rosemary, and I hope you had a happy Easter too. I think Blogger has struck again, and I had trouble commenting on your blog! It caught me unawares...

  2. Easter with family is so lovely, and I'm glad you enjoyed yours. Such a pretty pink blanket, and the bunnies are so cute.
I admire the Cambridge's fashion sense, and the pastel outfits Catherine and Charlotte wore are just lovely. I hope Charlotte doesn't rebel too soon.
I do sew for my grandchildren and enjoy it very much. This year I made Easter baskets for them that they seemed to like - or maybe it was the chocolate and little gifts that they appreciated most!

    1. Hi Lorrie, making Easter baskets sounds like fun. When the little ones are older I could try that. I enjoy seeing the Cambridge's fashions too, ladylike but not ostentatious, and lovely colours.

  3. Patricia, your beautiful craft work is wonderful. How clever you are to make such lovely creations. I also wonder when Charlotte will rebel. I'm sure she will one of these days. Kate looks immaculate as always. I do wonder how on earth she can walk in those incredibly high heels, though. My ankles would never have stood up to them!

    1. Happy Easter Val. My creations these days are relatively simple, but a lifetime with needle in hand keeps me fairly accurate. I think Charlotte will always dress well, but a bit of variety might be craved as she gets older. As for the heels, I look at them and wonder too. Even when I was young, slim and active I could never have worn them!!!

  4. Dearest Patricia,
Lovely lilies and what a clever way of making those sweet pink bunnies! Great joy to create something for a grandchild!
Easter is over with and it was a beautiful and meaningful one. I sang with love in the chorus and together with the orchestra we performed a meaningful Easter Mass with Händel's Hallelujah as the ending.
Pieter enjoyed it and we got invited by a dear friend for Easter dinner.
So that's pretty much the end of it as we have no 2nd Easter day in the USA.
Indeed, what a fate for the Ukraine, the country where they create the prettiest Easter eggs, the Pysanka: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/375980268902473964/
May God grant them Peace as too many so–called world leaders are cowards, looking the other way and not (yet) giving them what they have been begging for from day one on.
And the UN is a farce, they are just a group of talkers for big salaries but NO service to countries in need of help.
    May God have mercy!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Happy Easter Mariette, How absolutely wonderful to sing with the chorus Handel's Hallelujah. I too sang with my church choir, some of the old Easter favourite hymns, but with such joy at Easter. So sad re the Ukraine. I am pleased Australia has sent them various things, including weapons and also a shipload of coal (hope it gets there before all the ports are closed!). P.

  5. Patricia, that is the cutest Pink baby blanket and bear. You are so creative, and will be making many things for your little ones. No, I don't sew, but my dear Mom was a great seamstress who sewed many of my clothes growing up. With me, I can just sew pillow cases and doll clothes haha. That was so thoughtful of the children to gather rosemary and put it in baskets for Easter. I like your Easter decorations - the bunny and egg wreath. Kate looks lovely in her blue dress. And I love your yellow rose. It's just so pretty. Yes, thinking of the people in Ukraine always.

    Have a good week, Patricia.

    1. I think there are fewer people sewing at home these days - but those who do still enjoy it! It is a pleasure to make something for a grandchild, but most of her clothes will be modern, easy care styles from the shops :)

  6. You created an adorable bunny blanket. Flowers and chocolate just seem to go with the Easter holiday don't they? We didn't see the grands and great grands this time around. We were invited to their church service followed by an Easter egg hunt but I just wasn't quite up to it. They live about an hour away. My daughter teased me and said if I had a new dress I'd have felt good enough, lol.

Enjoyed your pictures of the Royals. I agree, that is a wonderful shade of blue.

    1. Dear Darla, I hope you had some flowers and chocolate at Easter, despite not being up to making the trip. An hour is a long drive when followed by an egg hunt! Our grands live over the other side of a mountain, and sometimes I find that drive a bit daunting too. I think the young Duchess is following the Queen's idea, wearing colours which allow her to stand out a bit in a crowd - and it looks good in photos. Be safe, and hope you are well.

  7. It must be a thrill to have a little granddaughter in addition to the boys., Trish. What a precious pink baby blanket and bear.

I enjoyed catching glimpses of Queen Elizabeth and her family during the celebrations. I'm happy the week was such a success and people came out to show how loved a monarch her Majesty is. 70 years is quite a long reign!
