LETS LOOK AT FASHION TO LIGHTEN THE MOOD

Hello

Heavy rain pelts down once more on the Red Cardinal nest,

the world continues to be weird,

and everyone is talking about the Oscars.

As ever, I liked the pink gowns:

But more fun, I think, is to see another round of ladylike frocks on a Royal Tour.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge embarked on a week-long tour of three Caribbean countries: Belize, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.

Catherine acknowledged the flags of each nation on her arrival, here in the cobalt blue for Belize.

Looking happy in a chic pill box hat..

Later, beating the heat in blue and red, in a dress which would not be out of place here in Brisbane in tropical Summer heat..

The royal couple attended an evening reception at the Mayan ruins in Cathal Peck:

The Duchess wore the first of three formal gowns, with pretty flutter sleeves, and

carried an embroidered Mayan clutch.

There were white pants:

We wear them a lot in the tropics!

And on to Jamaica:

I love a yellow dress almost as much as a pink one, so this really appeals...

Gorgeous Roksanda dress, fluttering in the Jamaican breeze..

Perfect in the heat, this white lace dress was sweet, and a reminder of one the Queen wore in Australia, way back in the 1950s:

As they say about fashion, what goes around, comes around...

Green from the Jamaican flag appeared at the evening Reception, with a Jenny Packham gown, very much a Princess look:

Farewell to Jamaica:

I have been dreaming of a green linen dress like this...

Finally, to the Bahamas, in turquoise blue..

More pretty dresses...

and one final, and very elegant, formal gown,
pale blue satin by Phillipa Lepley:

And there you have it - a lot of fashion fun in one short week.
And back to the UK to catch up with the family.

The 80s vibe of the farewell dress divides the masses.
I like it, but then I like a puff sleeve, a peplum, and a pretty floral.

Well done Kate!

Be kind to each other, and take care

  1. Dearest Patricia,
Never watched the Oscars and don't miss it!
The Duchess knows how to dress stylish and elegant. She has a good figure as well and like you, I do love puffed sleeves and peplums.
    Lovely roses you got.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. The Oscars is far too long and tedious - I just look at the dresses in the online collections. Long live puffed sleeves and peplums. I had a peplum on my wedding dress :)

  2. Hello Patricia,
I didn't watch the Oscars, but I'm happy to see those pink dresses! And I did follow some of the Royal Tour in the Caribbean - I do love Catherine's style sense.
Thank you for this very enjoyable lighthearted fashion post.

    1. Hello Lorrie, I found years ago the best way to see the Oscar gowns is to Google them! There were far too many cut-away dresses, which I find quite weird. Long live a pretty pink gown. Catherine has fun with fashion and a great sense of style.

  3. Hi Trish!
I actually liked most of the dresses at the Oscars this time - which is rare. Seems like a lot more classy choices overall. But Kate is such a stunner! She will make an amazing queen one day. I love her style and choices that fit her perfectly. The classiest of all! ;)

    1. The Oscars are always a bit of fun for fashion, and yes, there were some more classy ones. I wondered if the Ukraine situation had some influence. Can't wait to see Kate as Queen in all the diamonds etc.

  4. No oscar watching here either.
I always come to your blog to catch up with what Catherine is wearing currently. My favourite one is the red and blue cotton dress - I like its lack of formality and simplicity.

    1. We are all sensible - the Oscars are too long and tedious. The red carpet is what interests me, and it can be found easily online. I really like that cotton dress too, and would love to have it. In our long Summers, such dresses are perfect.

  5. I never watch the oscars either. It always seems a bit like a media circus to me. Kate would look good in an old sack, but she has some gorgeous dresses, I must say. Look after yourself, Patricia!

    1. Avoid the media circus, and look at the gowns later, that's my motto. Kate's wardrobe for this tour was well thought out, and I bet she had fun doing it (with professional help, no doubt!). Take care.

  6. There's just something so pretty about PINK dresses. Kate's yellow dress is lovely also. Such a cheerful color to wear. I've always liked white pants in the Spring, and such a classic piece of clothing. I remember when I was in high school, I had a white jacket and white pants just like the ones shown here. Thanks for sharing all these fashionable clothes with us.

Your Pink roses always make me smile, Patricia. I am hoping to plant a BIG Pink rose bush this Spring.....we'll see. ; )

    1. I always love to have a pink dress - my current one is pale pink linen, but the sparkly Oscar gowns elevate it to a higher level! I too have had a white jacket and pants back in the day; how chic we were, and now it comes back.

  7. Hey Trish, I've been waiting for your Oscar gown picks. We picked some of the same gowns. Obviously we have great tastes. ;)

Kate has a never miss fashion sense, doesn't she? I realize she's under lots of pressure, but I sometimes wonder what it would be like to have a huge fashion budget -- so money would rarely be a factor in your choices of outfits and everything could be tailored to fit you perfectly. And the jewelry -- the access would be fun! I'd borrow the diamonds and sapphires often!! :)

    1. We know a tasteful gown when it appears! I used to like to watch the red carpet interviews, but they were not shown in Australia this time (or at least, I did not find them).
I have thought about that too, what would I buy if there was not really a limit. Kate does very well, always appropriate, but does not appear to be over-extravagant. She carefully recycles, and this tour she had a number of vintage items too. The jewellery she borrowed for the tour was great too. Did you see the hummingbird brooch she wore on the green dress? And the black/white spot dress for the Duke of Edinburgh memorial service: so stylish!

    2. Oh yes I did! I love jewelry although I do more browsing than buying. :) I've never seen Kate in any attire I didn't like. I've tried on fancy designer gowns in upscale stores but never having a gala that requires them makes it safe to like them ... but I must say they're rarely comfortable. Cozy outfits are more of a tempation for me when I find them.

    3. Wish we all could go to a gala now and then!!

  9. Interesting to see all Kate's dresses and other outfits. She looks very good in them all. I wonder if she ever regrets any that she would love to wear time after time, but isn't able to. Of course it is nice to constantly have new clothes but some clothes are special, and you want to keep wearing them. And I do wonder what happens to all those lovely - I wonder if they are kept forever, or sold for charity. That white lace one is so uncannily like the Queen's that I almost wonder if it was deliberately copied!
