BIRTHDAY LADY

Hello from the Red Cardinal nest..

Happy Birthday to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,
94 years young.

Look at the birthday girl, pictured in happier times, wearing her Australian Wattle brooch, a gift from our nation on the occasion of her Coronation, all those years ago.

Gratuitous shot of my copy of the Wattle Brooch, happily bought at Buckingham Palace gift shoppe, 2016

It was a treat to see the actual Coronation robes at the Exhibition of the Queen's clothes, Buckingham Palace, 2016

All that fine beading and embroidery made my heart sing...

The Queen has always been a woman of great style, and she really knows how to wear a grand evening gown..

So elegant..

Love her in pink..

Majestic and inspirational in her recent message about the global pandemic..

Long may she Reign!

In our Isolation Nest, the tiny violas have started to bloom..

I have planted a few in the decorative cage, along with some nasturtium seeds which sprouted very quickly.
Let's see if this can turn into a cage of colour...

Also started a succulent baby nursery in a shallow dish.
So far, so good...

The lavender has expanded its footprint, and is covered in tiny buds...

and the little owl continues to stand guard over the herbs and vegetable seedlings.
We are amazed that in a whole year, the cockatoos continue to be frightened by those staring eyes, and no longer get in and destroy the plants.

Talk about guilty consciences....

I had good news today - full blood count and testing of my immune system.
All is good :)

Apart from playing gardener, I have a goal of sewing one garment a week.
Preparing for next Summer.
Winter never seems to happen here anymore.

I will photograph and show a few - maybe next time.

Cheers, and be safe and good

XXXX

  1. Dear Patricia - The Queen really is a remarkable women, and even though she has had much to contend with during these her latter years, still keeps on plodding on.
At the age of 94 years most people would be living a peaceful life with no cares or worries, and yet she still has the official government red boxes delivered to her for attention every week.
Love your little bird cage, and look forward to seeing it when it turns into a mass of colour.

    1. Remarkable indeed, Rosemary. We all hope to be so active at 94! It is incredible that she is so mentally alert and copes with all the government business. I thought she might abdicate on her birthday, but now I doubt she will any time soon. There is too much going on!

  2. The Queen is an amazing monarch...so dignified and loyal. She cannot be faulted and has recently endured a lot of family issues which have been problematic but she does so with the utmost of grace.
    That wattle brooch is beautiful!
Hope that you stay well Patricia and enjoy those pretty pansies as they are so cheerful...I think of them a wee faces.

    1. The cage is gorgeous, and was a gift from our younger son. I will enjoy experimenting with different plantings in it as time goes by. I hope your garden is great - so many people are gardening during isolation, the world will be so much more attractive! xx

  4. So glad about the blood count, that is great! Wasn't the Queen slender, that's one of the things I always notice. And she was really beautiful when young, you can tell from looking at her that she was also vivacious.

    1. Thank you Jenny, always a relief to get good results. Yes the Queen was very slim, and remained so after four babies which always impressed me. I don't think the TV series The Crown were really fair to her in series 3 in this regard. She was much more slim and beautiful in 1964 than portrayed!
