OTTAWA

Bonjour
I hope you have all had a delightful Christmas...we certainly have..

At last we had the opportunity to see the little Canadian grandsons at their Christmas performances...

Loved hearing the old Carols in French - they were sooooo cute...

A couple of days in the city centre for Christmas shopping -
and a look at the light show on Parliament Hill for the 150 celebrations..

From our hotel window -

and by day, looking down on the Rideau Canal where it flows into the Ottawa River

As is my custom, had my photo taken beneath Louise Bourgeois' sculpture 'Maman' outside the National Gallery of Canada.
In another post I will talk about my highlight picks from the Gallery.

Charity trees

Technical difficulties make it impossible to load any more pics in this post, so I will finish here and do another one about our beautiful Christmas Day..

  3. Bonjour!
    Je suis heureuse!
I was going to say that I am happy that you are there, enjoying your family in Canada but alas, my French only goes so far! (Had to check on the spelling of the French happy anyway! LOL.) Take care in that snow!

    1. Yes, I understood you, well done. Our younger son had a nice dog who we insisted said happy in French ;). Having a great time and more snow adventures to come.

  4. So happy you're enjoying your time in Ottawa! I lived there as a student and have visited with my family over the years, I had the most wonderful holiday there with my hubs about five years ago, stayed at the Chateau which is my favourite hotel in the city. High Tea there must have been perfect!
Enjoy your time and stay warm today, this cold snap is no joke! xx

  5. . . . . . . and were they skating to work on the Rideau Canal?
Glad you are having a great time - stay warm and enjoy each moment with your family.
    Happy New Year Patricia.

    1. No skating yet, still not open. However we did see that on a previous visit a few years ago. DD's MIL used to do that!

  6. The spider is very cool. I like Bourgeois because of her feminist art and interest in fibre, so webs, linens, any textile. Her parents had tapestry factories I believe. And we know the importance of a thread :)

  8. What a beautiful display of lights! I'm so glad you had a nice time visiting with family for Christmas. Is there anything more special than to see children's Christmas performances? And hearing the carols in French would be an extra treat. I'm not sure if you know this, but I'm part French-Canadian, so that made me smile right away. Those giant ornaments are so cool.

Happy New Year, Patricia. I hope this year brings you peace and much joy. You are one of my first blog friends, and I appreciate you being there through this journey with me.

    love, ~Sheri

    1. The children's concert was a real highlight for us, Sheri. \no did not know you were part French-Canadian, which is a very nice thing to be. I love the culture here. Happy New Year to you too, and I have loved the blog journey too.

    1. Yes indeed, Sarah Liz. A happy and peaceful New Year to you also. It did feel like a 'proper' Christmas - at least the one in movies and books!

  10. Hi Trish! Sorry it's been so long since I've said hello. ;) I loved catching up on your posts about your Canada Christmas. We love Ottawa - even though we have only visited once. The Senators are our families favorite hockey team, even though location-wise the MN Wild should be. The Rideau Canal is so beautiful. So happy you had a wonderful Christmas!

I also wanted to let you know that I posted yesterday about a blogaversary giveaway I'm doing and will draw a winner on Friday. So if you get a chance please comment on it so I can enter you in too. I'd love to thank you for being such a lovely friend here in blogland. Just FYI.
Blessings on your week ahead. xoxo
