I always liked the beauty and style of Grace Kelly,
lovely actress, and perfect Princess of Monaco...
so I have been looking forward to the movie "Grace of Monaco"
starring Australia's own Nicole Kidman..
Well I will have to wait a little longer, because I hear today that the premiere has been delayed until 2014.
I loved Grace's ladylike fashions...
and similarly, the style of Jackie Kennedy ...
always elegant, very clean lines ..
I liked Audrey Hepburn, too:
I suppose it is no surprise that I now like the similar style of Duchess Kate ...
I'm sewing again - this froth of pink linen and silk..
Over the past year I have lost 16kg, about 35 pounds -
summer temperatures are soaring, and I am going around looking like a clown in baggy clothes...
As fast as I take something in, I have to take it in again -
I don't mind if it is something I love, but lots of things are being tossed away.
And now I can create a new wardrobe ..
XXXXX
I agree with you, soft pink is very elegant. All of those ladies have such a classic style!
ReplyDeleteLove those classic fashions, especially if soft pink!
DeleteAs we have always shared a love of lots of the same things your post was a real treat. I too am hanging out to see 'our Nicole' portray one of my favourites too. I am sure your gorgeous pink fabric will be transformed into something wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAh, so true Michelle, we do like the same things. I suspect my pink effort will be somewhat predictable to those who know me 'in real time' :)
DeleteHappy weekend xx
I think that pink is a colour that is flattering to most ladies - young and old.
ReplyDeleteI shall look forward to that film too.
Congratulations on losing so much weight, it is not an easy thing to do, but gets better as you get into the swing of it.
I am just making an effort too, but have way to go before I catch up with you - 12 pounds so far.
I agree, pink is flattering to most, and can be tweaked from bluish tint to a peachier tone, depending on complexion.
DeleteThank you re the weight, something I have always wrestled with. Yes, hard to begin, then it was easier for a while, but alas I have come to a standstill this month. What was working, now doesn't! Back to the drawing board. Well done you, for 12 pounds which really is quite a lot!
Congratulations on your weight loss and what a great excuse for new clothes! That's a beautiful shade of pink you've chosen, very feminine.
ReplyDeleteHi little kitty, nice to hear your little purring voice. Thank you, and of course I love the excuse to break out with new summer wear. Mr C, who never criticized, bless him, is very happy with the new me, so I take that as 'go forth and shop' - he he
DeleteOh Patricia they are my idols too, each and every one. I love the pink outfits you found them all in, so pretty. Well done on your weight loss. Currently I've managed fifteen pounds with at least another ten to go. It's a hard slog though!
ReplyDeletePatricia x
Glad you like these ladies too Patricia - to me they all have wonderful classic vintage style. Well done you, too, for 15 pounds - I'm with you on the remainder. The slog gets harder! x
DeleteI'm sure you are going to turn that pink fabric into something really special. I recently visited a fashion site (forgot which one) that said pale pink was going to be a winter color this year and they showed examples. I hope I can find a pale pink sweater so I don't have to wait to wear pink until summer.
ReplyDeleteDarla
Oh pink sweaters are divine Darla, I hope you find one, which will really suit your colouring I think. With summer hitting hard right now, I know the pastel linen will be very useful in the coming weeks. The fashion site is correct - this week I found pale pink items appearing in the shops round here - but for summer!
DeleteLovely photos of beautiful ladies, Patricia. I also love Jackie Kennedy's clothes. Lovely simple styles. Mind you, Kate is doing well too as you say. Enjoy your lovely hot weather as we sink into the cold.
ReplyDeleteThank you Val, glad you are a Jackie fan too. Perhaps in my case it is also about loving the fashions of my youth, and these ladies seem to exemplify it very well. Keep warm over there!
DeleteI think I like Grace best, perhaps partly because those colours always seem to me to specially suit her era.
ReplyDeleteGrace was incredibly beautiful, wasn't she. I always liked her in the pastels - pink, blue of lemon - and yes, it was part of that 50s era, a very feminine look post-war, after Dior's New Look.
DeleteThe women you mention are icons! Love all of them in pink. Looking forward to the movie as well. Congratulations on your weight loss!! That is fantastic. Can't wait to see your finished product from the pink fabric. You go girl!
ReplyDeleteIcons indeed, Sanda. It was fun chasing up pink fashions for them all. HB asked me how I did it - so funny, because he is far more computer literate than me, but could not work out how I found all the pink outfits. Thank you re the weight loss - I was not going to ever mention it, but maybe I felt I needed to explain why I am making even more clothes!
DeleteGosh, 16kg, Patricia! That's fantastic. Do share your secret with us sometime. You certainly deserve a new wardrobe after that and the charity shops will benefit from your cast-offs. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I'm not a fashion follower and can't wear pale pink, though a strong coral suits me.
Must admit, I'm quite pleased with the weight loss, after years of not being able to lose it. The bags are piling up for the charity shops, and at the point of trans-season, every day something else gets tossed out. Pink is tricky regarding complexions - coral makes me look ill and sallow; a bluish tinged pink is the go for me.
DeleteNews to me, about Nicole and the film and I think she's perfect for the role and I shall look forward to seeing this when it's out here. Well done on the weight loss! x
ReplyDeleteI think Nicole looks the part very well too; I only found the news of the delay in release when I was Google searching for these pics.
DeleteHappy with the weight loss - maintenance is the tricky bit!
Pretty women and a pretty color.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to loose 10 - 15 pounds myself. It is HARRRD and excruciatingly slow going, but I am losing. So congratulations, Patricia! Did I miss how the pounds finally came off for you, what the trick turned out to be?
I have had to eat a small protein for breakfast (like a fortified protein bar with coffee and milk), a low-cal-protein smoothy for lunch, a regular dinner (only real food, but low fat and balanced) and a tiny protein snack at night - usually flavored soy chips ... or sometimes a few thin slices of cheedar cheese with saltines. Just a few years ago, the weight would have dropped off in a month on such a diet. Not anymore. :(
And of course, if I attend a party and must eat a piece of cake, or drink a single glass of wine ... sometimes one just must to be a good sport, I can put two pounds back on in an evening that it took a few weeks to lose. Arghhh!
Dear Debra, I identify with everything you say about dieting. For all the reasons you mention, this has taken me a very long time, and I would like to lose a bit more. As there seems to be some interest, I am considering writing a post about it, but have to think about what I will say first. Got a bit of a virus right now, brain a bit fuzzy! Well done you for losing the pounds, harrrrrd as it is :)
DeletePatricia,
ReplyDeleteI have always liked Grace Kelly too. Isn't she a classic beauty? And I love Audrey! They both dress so lovely and I've always liked their styles. How wonderful that you've lost 35 pounds. Oh, I wish I could sew. My mom used to sew and made all my clothes growing up. It's such a talent when one can sew. I love your pink post today. PINK is such a happy color.
Love,
~Sheri
Grace and Audrey were beautiful film stars Sheri - I would watch any film with one of them in it. My Mum made all our clothes too - so many did back in the day. I seem to have inherited her enthusiasm, but failed to pass it on to my own daughter! Pink rules, OK?
DeleteSo sorry for my very late comment. Been about and around.
ReplyDeleteFirst- wow- congratulations on your weight loss, and the fact that you have not written much ( if at all ) about it.
Not everything needs to be placed on a blog.
I like your icons too, but would change Audrey to Catherine Deneuve, just my quirk.
Grace Kelly is my favorite of all the above.
You have a lovely mission of sewing ahead!
Thank you Mette, I never intended to write about weight, but suddenly it popped out! There is a lot happens around here which will never be on the blog :-)
ReplyDeleteOh I forgot Catherine D. - she is/was absolutely beautiful and I always watched for her too. I like the idea of a sewing mission - that' s the spirit I like.
