So, what is this, falling on the leaves?
And glistening on petals?
Yes, it is raining! After three very dry months....
Our grass has become brown and crunchy underfoot..
Should be green..
Yesterday these two palm fronds crashed - and they are not dead.
This is not normal behaviour; I think the dry spell might be the cause.
Star jasmine is still popping up all over, whatever the weather..
And we went to see the new release, Blue Jasmine, with our own Cate Blanchett starring in Woody Allen's latest movie.
We loved it, 11/10!
Cate is a brilliant actress, and we enjoy Woody's quirky scripts and characters.
In other riveting news, my recently purchased Indigenous painting has been stretched and framed..
I kept it simple, as I don't think these works benefit from traditional European frames.. and this is how they are presented at the state galleries.
I made a shirt from this bright, ethnic type print cotton,
which I found on our recent trip to Emerald.
Light and bright, very Australian colours, just in time for summer.
Lovely weather for ducks!
Have a great week

Don't you just love that strange sound outside! Our gardens are definitely in need of a freshen up with the rain. And just love your shirt - the cuff detail looks great - could I ask what pattern you used for this??? ... J
ReplyDeleteHi Judith, loving that rain outside my window! Glad you like my shirt, which is an old pattern New Look 6783. I like it for the 3/4 sleeve with cuff and the shoulderline on this one works well for me...P
ReplyDeleteWow, I´ve never seen grass like that! No rain in three months. Actually I feel like crying.
ReplyDeleteI´d love to have no snow falling for three months ( and more ).
Luckily there are plants alive!
And the framing is perfect, I must say.
You are so right about bright colors. Perfect for your part of the world, a very comfortable looking shirt.
How on earth do you have time to do so many things?
I find myself going to bed all the time, lol.
Oh, I love my bed too Mette - and I don't know that I do a lot of things, just the things I like! There are many things I can't do so well any more, for medical reasons, so I do have a little bit of help now with house and garden.
DeleteI feel like crying too when the front of the house looks so brown and parched - but hopefully the rain will continue. The snow, though beautiful, must become wearying after a few months! After three weeks in Ottawa in January a few years ago, we were quite glad to leave and go home..
Hi Patricia, again I must say what beautiful pictures. Now that summer is ending in America, I'll have to get a dose of spring and summer right here.
ReplyDeleteI love the shirt you made too. Cotton feels great and lasts for years.
Hi Debra, glad you like the pictures, and I think my new shirt will get a lot of wear over the summer months.
DeleteI always enjoy the first rains of the season but admit I get tired of it before the season is over. We've had several months without rain as well but we don't get the high temps you do.
ReplyDeleteDarla
Yes, so true Darla, we get tired of too much of any kind of weather. After I did my blog, the rain turned into the first thunder storm of the season; that was fun, and enjoyed going to sleep with rain beating on the house.
DeleteLawns have a remarkable ability to green up once the rain falls - it always surprises me how quickly you see little green shoots appearing again. We were without rain for a long time, and when it did rain I was surprised at how much I really enjoyed seeing it.
ReplyDeleteIt is true, Rosemary, the green shoot appear so quickly. Hopefully the rain will continue on and off for a few weeks, and all will be remedied!
DeleteI do love rainy days during the spring and summer but not during winter. The photo of the raindrops on the flowers is beautiful. Those poor people in Colorado getting so much rain makes me so sad for them. The frame on your new painting looks marvelous!
ReplyDeleteA little bit of rain is very lovely, and nice to listen to. Poor Colorado - what a lot of sad images are coming through. Sun's out again here!
DeleteSuper photos, Patricia, and I'm so glad it raining for you at last. You don't want to go into summer with everything parched and brown. Your new painting looks wonderful and I do like your new blouse. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Perpetua, We got a good soaking but now the sun is back - hopes for more rain on the weekend. New blouse is going for a trip to visit my old Dad today ...
DeletePatricia,
ReplyDeleteYour painting is so unique and beautiful with all the different colors in it. I will have to see Blue Jasmine. I finally saw The Great Gatsby last weekend. The flower pictures are lovely, and especially with a few raindrops on them. I took a picture of my roses with raindrops this summer when it rained a couple of days here.
Aaahhh, the red flowers by the ducks are so pretty.
~Sheri
Hi Sheri, the painting is by an indigenous Australian artist from Utopia, in the centre desert of Australia. It is called Bush Medicine and represents the many plants of the area - I love it.
DeleteAnd I have not seen Gatsby yet - you must tell how you like it.
I bet you really enjoyed that rain. I think it is due here in Caunes soon....and that will mark the start of the autumn planting season. There has been no point in doing anything in the garden for the last couple of parched months. I love the painting, really beautiful...and the shirt, gorgeous colours. Jx
ReplyDeleteThanks Janice, we did like the rain, but it went away again. Here's to a bit more this week. It is difficult to garden when all is parched, but I am trying to keep my spring flowers going a while longer. P.x
