and what do we see?
Our Jacaranda tree is blooming out of season, scattering a few little blue bells on the front lawn.
It is also the season of The Oscars, and I spent several hours today watching the show. Although I did hear the results on the news before I got to the end!
Of course, it is all about the frocks for me, eternally fascinated as I am with the design and construction of high end fashion.
You know I like to feature the Australian ladies, and who did I find but our own Jackie Weaver, a legend in Australia since she was 15.
Her white suit was beautifully tailored, with exquisite detail, and she looked wonderful. For the record, Jackie is now 77 years of age.
Halle Berry was stunning in one of many metallic gowns this year.
Lupita, elegant in white Chanel.
There was a lot of Chanel and Dior, which I love...
Ariana Grande has been very busy on the red carpets this year.
Her final triumph is this unusual peplum gown from Schiaparelli.
Is it practical? I have no idea but I might go and see Wicked to see what all the attention is about...
You know I love a pink gown. Mikey Madison looks pretty in Dior, and she won an Oscar.
I think this is dark blue velvet, and very ladylike.
The days of bright colour seemed to have gone, in a preponderance of black, white and neutrals, but then I found this fabulous cobalt blue number. Well played.
My winner for the day is by Louis Vuitton, elegant simplicity in black with a beautiful lace halter neck.
It is a win for ladylike fashions, after weeks of weird red carpet looks over the 2025 Awards season.
While I was having a quiet day, watching the Oscars and doing the washing, I had taken scant notice of the weather reports.
Late in the day I realised that a tropical cyclone which has been hovering over the Queensland coast for a week, is now due East of Brisbane. It is beginning to whip up cyclonic winds, and may well cross the coast somewhere in our vicinity by the end of the week. A lot of rain is expected. It is possible the creeks will rise and we may be cut off from the shops, and even lose power for a considerable time. It has happened before. So we thought we'd better go to the supermarket for a few extra supplies. The shelves had been stripped bare today!
I got a few things, and the last three apples, but there was no bottled water to be had.
Mr Red Cardinal will go again first thing tomorrow when hopefully the shelves will be restocked.
I am not unduly worried, but it is prudent to be prepared.
Did you watch the Oscars?
I did wonder if the subdued palette reflects the current tensions in the world. What do you think?
I'd love to know...

Hopefully you won't get bad weather, fingers crossed! Now, the Oscar's! Oh dear, I though the host was just awful, from the very beginning with him crawling out of Demi Moore, just yuck. She thought so too! Ariana Grande's dress...when Richard saw it, he reminded me of the crocheted doll in the bathroom at his parents, where the skirt on the doll hid a roll of toilet paper! He's right, it looked very much like that! I LOVE all the other dresses you shared here and I agree, that last one was my favorite but if I had seen Hallie Berry's in person, I might change my mind. Now I saw Wicked as a play with my sisters and thought it was okay but they loved it. I have no intention of seeing the film. I don't like the music! Be interesting to see what you think!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I missed the beginning of the Oscars and just as well! The whole show did lack the spontaneous gags and hilarity I remember from the past, but I guess times have changed. Haha, yes the toilet doll it is, Oh Dear.. When our daughter lived in London I visited and we went to Wicked on stage in about 2008. It was very new then and I liked the premise of backstory to Wizard of Os. My plan is to watch as many of these movies as I can on the plane to Europe. Then I can move on from any which don't appeal.
DeleteAdrien Brody won the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role.... well deserved!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I really want to see Brutalist. It looks like a movie which would interest me very much. I remember him for The Pianist.
DeleteHi dearest Trish - I always love your Oscar "visit" and your interesting take on the gowns chosen. As always, some were horrid other beautiful. I didn't watch the entire show but caught a few of the ladies, Lke you, I loved Halle Berry, and the cobalt blue classic Balenciaga worn by Michelle Yeoh, also Scarlet Johansson's dark blue velvet. Oh to be in fine shape to wear dresses like that - these days the more casual and baggy the better for me, but always well coordinated, and mostly classic. . . . . . .bring on the cashmere sweaters and comfy trouser styles!!!!! I've lost weight and am enjoying high-waisted trousers, being tall I can wear them, even bought jeans in a lighter weight denim and am enjoying them. Now if I could just get my hair to stop thinning! I love it being silver, and have a very short style which makes care so much easier - wash and go!
ReplyDeleteTalk about going, we haven't been far this past year! I've missed going home so much. Bob and I are really stuck here still and after a meeting with the oncologist today, it looks like it will continue as his cancer requires more ongoing treatment! We are sad but plan to do the best we can, life is too precious to just give up yet.
Take good care of yourselves, especially if the bad weather heads your way. You are in our thoughts and prayers. "See you" on IG later, and thanks so much for leaving such a nice note on my recent blog post too.
Love, Mary X
I think we like the same classic gowns, dear Mary. Maybe they wear old-fashioned corsets beneath, hmm. Losing weight can be the silver lining in difficult times, me finds. You will be fabulous in your lighter jeans and high waist trousers. As a Very Short person, I can only dream, he he. I feel for you, missing your trips home, so sad. Thoughts and prayers to you too and thank you for your lovely big comment. Love P. xx
DeleteI can always count on you to show the Oscars fashions, Patricia. Halle Berry always looks lovely, doesn't she? And you can't go wrong with a white classic suit. The blue gown is striking and gorgeous. That might be my favorite. I hope those fierce winds don't do any damage to your house, and I do hope you don't lose power. Good idea to go to the grocery store and stock up on a few things. Your jacaranda tree is lovely.
ReplyDeleteHappy March to you, Patricia.

yes, Halle has been a star at the Oscars for a long time, and still looks so young and fresh. How do they do it?? The blue gown is getting a lot of votes. Stunning. We sure hope we don't lose power too, or we will end up eating cake, he he. Going out now to find more bottled water.
DeleteHi Trish!
ReplyDeletePrayers that the coming weather won't be too bad. We're having a lovely mild day today, but a snowstorm is predicted again this week and we're going to get maybe 4-8 inches of snow. Ugh!
I watched the Oscars too and always love looking at the fashions. I loved Selena Gomez with her old hollywood glamour look. And I loved Halle Berry's dress too. So stunning! I loved Wicked - but I had seen the musical on stage years ago too. The music is so good! And fun fact about the movie - the songs they do in it were taped live as they were filming! So they're not lip syncing or being dubbed in. I thought that was really cool.
Blessings on your week ahead and stay safe. 🙏🏻💗 xoxo
More snow! My daughter has had snow since Christmas, very deep. I think she is over it too. Lovely Oscar fashions, and better than some of the other Award red carpets lately. Selena Gomez was beautiful. Interesting re Wicked, live filming their singing. I can always tell if they are faking. Might catch it on the plane. Blessings to you dear Carrie. xoxo
DeleteI always enjoy your fashion posts, Trish. I didn't watch any of the Oscars and would only watch for the fashion anyway. The state of the world is precarious indeed and like you, I wonder if that is reflected in the subdued colour of the gowns. I do love the blue velvet gown, and the black one that you chose as your favourite.
ReplyDeleteI hope the cyclone does not cause any damage and that you have been able to find the supplies you need.
Thank you Lorrie, I only watch for the fashion too. Mostly I do not know who the people are, and I have to look them up. We are just about organised for the cyclone, although we need another torch battery. We should have a few more hours Wednesday to go out but then we will need to hunker down as the winds pick up. The forecast crossing onto land is Thursday.
DeleteHave seen the Pianist. Now have to watch Brutalist
ReplyDeleteHoping to see it on the plane when I travel soon.
DeleteHi Patricia, hope you're all battened down. It's taking it's time but nearly hear. Stay safe. Sofie
ReplyDeleteHi Sofie, we are very battened down. Quite the new experience for us. We might be at home for a few days flooded in. I do hope you are ok, and safe. All the best, P.
Deletehere. not hear... gosh the auto correct is annoying! Sofie
ReplyDeleteGreat blog
ReplyDeletePlease read my post
ReplyDeleteLovely picks, Trish! The vivid blue that Michelle Yeoh wore is probably my favorite, but it's hard to settle on just one. I hope you got spared the flooding! Stay safe during the storms!
ReplyDeleteHi Debra, We finally got our electricity back today, after a three day loss of power. About 500,000 homes were in this position during the height of the cyclone. It is mainly caused by falling trees. I will write a post about it soon.
