I have been looking at pictures from our journey to the Emerald Isle eight years ago for the wedding of our son and his Irish lass.
The above photo was my first ever sighting of a primrose and shamrocks, which you can see in the grass. We had arrived at the beautiful area of their wedding venue, South of Dublin in County Wexford.
I recently learnt that my Irish forebears came from a little West of this location, in Kilkenny.
We trust the little family is having a grand time getting acquainted with their Irish kinfolk. Gorgeous photos have been seen...
I saw this picture online, a map of Australia superimposed over Europe.
We tend to forget the vastness of our continent, as most of its centre is desert, or semi-desert. It is hard to imagine all those European countries plus the U.K. and the North Sea would fit into our land mass!
The Red Cardinals live on the yellow (Russian) area, East of Kiev and a bit further North. Brisbane is on the Pacific coast.
Seen on my daily walk:
Two wild ducks, paddling in our shallow local creek.
It is very dry these days, and the creek will dry up soon if we do not get a bit of rain.
Meryl Street looks lovely in her pink pants suit.
I would enjoy wearing this, although not sure to what event!
I do enjoy seeing the fashions on the older women.
Recently, there have been attempts to get 'back into sewing' at the Red Cardinal nest.
Old patterns have been donated as they no longer fit my ageing body.
I am testing a 'Curvy Petite' pattern which I bought online from the US.
So far it is looking promising....
I bought this silky rayon fabric from Big Spot, the only remaining fabric store on our side of Brisbane. (I know, so disappointing and shocking).
Remember this is the Tropics, and in the next few months, it will become very hot indeed. I plan to make palazzo pants and a sleeveless top to get me through the Summer.
I wear a lot of neutrals, but now and then my inner heart escapes to the bright and dramatic...
The first bud, full of promise for our annual display of blue Agapanthus.
(The Jacaranda is also covered in buds as we speak...)
Spring and Summer are well underway at our nest.
Do you stitch and sew too? I'd love to know...
Have a great week

PS I paper collaged an old school case from my children (which has held Lego for years). A Parisian theme sprang to mind :)
I always love your eclectic posts, Trish. I can imagine you must miss your little ones, being as far away as they are. That overlay of the outline of Australia on Europe is impressive. I think we often fail to conceive of just how huge Australia actually is. Lovely clothes as always on the celebrities. Palazzo pants sound like a great idea for the heat! Enjoy your garden and the summer, Trish! I am dreading winter arriving too soon here. Autumn is already making itself felt.
ReplyDeleteAlready the cool is coming to you, Val. When the world switches gear, it happens very quickly. Glad you like eclectic - that is how I seem to run. I think even Australians don't realise the extent of our land mass! Keep warm as the leaves turn to gold.
DeleteHello my lovely Trish!
ReplyDeleteI bet your grands are having a wonderful time in Ireland. It's on my bucket list to get there one day. I have heritage there from my Mom's side and they came from counties Kilkenny (maybe we're related - Lol) and Cork. :)
I didn't realize how truly big Austrailia is - that's really cool!
I hope you get the rain you need. You have such beautiful botany there and want it all to bloom the way it needs to. 💗
I watched the Emmy's too and love seeing the fashions too. I hope the new patterns work for you - yes U.S. patterns should have some good curve to them. 😉 I envy you your talents. I wish I could sew - but those skills never "stuck" for me. I can craft with the best of them. Cross-stitch and embroider a bit. Sew on a button is about the extent of my prowess with being a seamstress though.
Blessings to you always. Love catching up. xoxo
Hello dear Carrie, Ah Kilkenny it is - another of my 42nd cousins. We had a visiting priest at our parish recently, same name as my Irish gran, also from Kilkenny. So another cousin, lol. A few rain clouds today, a helpful sign. The authorities are already worried about bush fires. I love all your crafts, and you are absolute perfection at them. Long live stitches and crafts! xoxo
DeleteNo, I don't sew, but my mom was a great seamstress and made many of my clothes growing up. That paper collaged school case is really nice, Patricia. What a special place for the Legos. Your jungle fabric will be nice to make yourself an outfit for summer. Out of the Emmys dresses, I like Reece's the best. Black and white is always a nice combination in fashion. I hope your family has a wonderful and safe trip in Ireland. It's a place I'd love to visit myself.
ReplyDeleteWishing you pleasant October days ahead, Patricia.
~Sheri
Ah, my mother also made most of our clothes. How busy they were back in those days! Jungle fabric is now cut out, ready to go. Hopefully a few more Summer things will emerge from my machine!
DeleteLovely to hear your getting back to sewing my dear!
ReplyDeleteYour paper collage on the case is beautiful! I just spent a weekend sorting through all of the legos from my boys ... so our grands can now enjoy them! I bet you'll be happy to have your sweet ones return from Ireland!
Thank you for sharing the Australia map! I had no idea of the size compared to Europe!
Isn't it fun, sharing the old toys with the grands. I held on to that Lego for so many years.... We are so looking forward to the little ones returning; they went to see the Lego Land at Dubai on their journey across the globe. Off to start sewing my palazzo pants now :) xx
DeleteI've never sewed but I like to crochet. One day, I hope to be good at it! I am so glad you showed us some fashions that you liked at the Emmys. Don't you just love some of them? (Some of them are strange and unattractive to me.) I love the collage that you did on the case! I had some pretty floral wrapping paper from England, so I decoupaged my light switches! Guess what, I just used clear nail polish! Hey, it worked!
ReplyDeleteCrotchet is a great hobby, one I used to enjoy too. I enjoy choosing a few red carpet fashions, and of course, rejecting the strange odd ones is part of the fun. Glad you like my collage, which was surprisingly fun to do. Clear nail polish! What a clever idea, and I love the idea of the light switches.
DeleteThe overlay of Australia is very interesting. I was curious to see how Canada compares and according to the internet it is 29% bigger yet than Australia.
ReplyDeleteI do sew and have a couple of things on my sewing table - flannel for pajamas for the grandchildren for Christmas, and a couple of long-sleeved blouses for myself, of rayon, to wear under jackets and sweaters as the weather cools.
Your sleeveless top and flowy bottoms sound perfect for the hot weather.
Yes, Canada is even bigger than Australia, and no wonder it takes such a long time to fly across it! You do sound like a busy sewist. Making things for the grands is lovely. Rayon is lovely to both sew and wear, I have found also. Hope to finish my pants over the weekend.
DeleteHi Trish. What lovely memories of Ireland you have. Gee that map puts it all in perspective! Your garden is blooming beautifully. I hope this rain we are having helps your creek. I would be lost without my needle and thread! Love your Parisian upcyling xx
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle, The rain is so welcome - our grass is quite brittle too. I feel how you feel: we need to stitch, and often. I loved getting stuck into that collage, lol. xx
DeleteEnjoyed the fashion show and catching up on all your doings, Trish. I hope you are well.
