JANUARY JOURNEY

Hello from sunny Australia, land of the tall gum trees...

and where we like to watch the Golden Globes just to make sure these ladies turn up:

Australia's own Nicole Kidman, resplendent in shimmering silver..

and Cate Blanchett, sparkling in gold..

In fact, there was a lot of gold, which has become the neutral of the day..

Elegance in light gold...

Loved the drama and the draping in this one..

A Dior, 50s vibe in very dark gold...

Loved Demi Moore's very sculptural gown, metallic but difficult to work out the colour..

Angelina Jolie went the silver/gray route.

Looking forward to seeing her movie as Maria Callas..

Cynthia Erivo in a most unusual Louis Vuitton which reminds me of Spanish Court gowns from 500 years ago...

When everyone is doing metallics and neutral, someone needs to push against the trend:

Emma Stone was stunning in strapless red,

with an elegant tailored red satin belt:

I used to make myself belts like that... a very long time ago!

Her cute Pixie cut makes me feel better about the slightly too short hair cut I had today...

With all this gold going on, here is the gold bag I received for Christmas, and some Summer sandals I bought to blend with it...

After recent rains and a quick flood, our local creek is clean and sparkling once more..

ready for me to enjoy on my daily walk...

My favourite local horses send their regards.

I was going through old photos before Christmas, and found a rare one of myself riding a horse, aged about 14:

I am with my cousin, at their farm.  How long ago it was, and how fearless I was back then!

Have a great week

  1. You'll be right on trend with your new gold bag and shoes. Love seeing the glamorous dresses. I think my favourite is the dark orange gold one with all the draping and sculptural aspects.
Lovely to see your sunshine and scenery. Here it's been mostly grey and dark. I always wish for snow to brighten things up, but no chance this year.
    Enjoy your day.

    1. The draping is wonderful, and seen in lots of this year's gowns. As a fellow stitcher, I really love to see fabric worked in this way. So sorry it is so grey and dark: a bit of pretty white snow would be grand. Not very much this year over in Ontario either, from what I head from the grands.

  2. Patricia, I always enjoy your posts of the Golden Globes showing the ladies in their stylish dresses. Nicole Kidman looks good every time.....and Demi Moore looks amazing at her age. Your gold bag and shoes are very cute, and I could see myself wearing them. I'm glad you got some rain. It always makes everything fresh and clean again. And what a wonderful picture of you riding the horse, a treasured photo. As always, I love your pink roses, and the color is just perfect.

I hope the new year has been good to you, Patricia. Thank you for sharing the fashions, I enjoyed that.

    1. Hi Sheri, What would we Aussie's do without Nicole Kidman. She does us proud every time, and must have fantastic a fantastic fashion team behind her. Hoping to see my new gold accessories out at a soiree next week :) Such a funny old picture, I had forgotten about it. We took so few photos back in those days. Happy New Year.

  3. Very few women look attractive with their boobs and bums hanging out, except on the beach. So the elegance of the gold dresses is enough to make the women look very memorable.

    1. Hello Hels, that made me smile and I totally agree. In our hot climate, you can imagine how much of that goes on here!! Those elegant gold dresses remind me of the ladylike 1950s Hollywood, just so beautiful.

  4. Hello dear Trish!
I enjoyed the golden globes too and loved a lot of the fashions this year. Especially all the gold and champagne colors. 😍 I LOVE your beautiful gold handbag. The Mr did very well! And the sandals are perfect to go with it - you fashion plate you. :)
That pic of you on the horse is adorable! Wishing you blessings on the rest of your week Dearest. xoxo

    1. You would look great in those colours, Carrie, with your gorgeous blonde hair. Hi from my gold shoes and bag! That is such a funny old picture; I can't even remember when I looked like that. Thank goodness for photos. Blessings back to you in the Northwoods. Hope you are keeping warm. xoxo

  5. What a great post! I love it when you share your opinions of the dresses from these award shows! I think there was a bit too many golden globes on display, if you know what I mean, in a lot of the dresses but you didn't show those ones, thank goodness! I think I really like that orange one, so dramatic. Now, I love that photo of you at 14! Barefoot with a wide open smile! Why, even the horse is smiling! You will have to model for us with the pretty gold bag and shoes along with the dress you choose to wear with them.We lost our power last night for a few hours. We had snow which led to freezing on power lines and snap, no electricity. Fingers crossed, we keep the power today. Thankful they got Jimmy Carter home to Plains before Georgia had this snow/ice. Take care!

    1. Hi Kay, ha ha yes, some very odd displays on the red carpets these days. I amuse myself by ignoring them! That old horse was called Creamy if I recall correctly. Probably was smiling at us funny kids. I did not realize snow could snap off the electricity. So another thing I can worry about my kid in Ottawa, lol. I hope your power stays on, and that Jimmy Carter got back home to Plains. It was lovely to watch all the ceremony for him. Georgia must be so proud.

  7. A lovely post as always, Trish. Those gowns are really something. I can’t imagine how they manage to sit down wearing them. The bag and sandals are very pretty and it was lovely to see your creek and horses. I love the photo of you riding. You look so happy and carefree!

    1. Thank you Val. You make a good point about the gowns - they do seem to be made for parading before the cameras, and not for sitting down! Such a fun old photo, and there are so few from those years. I have less than 20 photos of my entire childhood up to about age 20.

    2. Trish, I'd love to see a few more. I too have very few photos of my childhood and youth. I think my sister may have more, but mine are limited to around ten.

  8. I didn't recognize Emma Stone! Lovely gowns. We have snow today in Manhattan and the temperature will drop to bitter cold for a week. So I'm here to warm up, Trish.:) Love all the sun and greenery.

    1. I didn't recognize Emma Stone either, and had to look it up. She reminds me of a few 1950s starlets with that Pixie cut. So cold over these this week. Will there be snow in New York? You will need your mittens. Wish I could send some of today's heat over to you :)

  9. What a beautiful Golden Globe round up my dear! so many spectacular looks this year! Demi Moore's look was such perfection!

Your local creek looks beautiful, what a wonderful place to walk! It reminds me of the area here in Southern California that I do my hikes!

Sending you big hugs my dear! XOX
