HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY

 Happy Australia Day
Today we celebrate our wide, brown land, in all its diversity and splendor...

Our unique birdlife - with a greeting from the naughty Sulphur Crested Cockatoo...

and the cheeky lorikeets..

Our beautiful sub-tropical City of Brisbane..

View from GoMA..
The Old Treasury Building on the lower left, is where we Red Cardinals met, at work, all those years ago.
Today, the beautiful old building is a Casino...

From our beautiful beaches...

and tropical rain forests....

to the dramatic deserts of our Red Centre ..

Australia we salute you.

Like many Aussies, we celebrated with a Summer barbeque at our son's place..

followed by a traditional Australian Pavlova dessert...

Happy Australia Day to us

  1. Dearest Patricia,
Happy Australia Day to you and yours!
On my blog, when scrolling down to labels you will find 21 posts about Australia. We've never been to Brisbane, neither to the West Coast of Australia...
It is a special country with interesting wildlife.
My Uncle, one of Dad's youngest brothers, and his family all live in Adelaide... He moved near his kids, from Broken Hill where he was a contractor and raised his family and where I visited him and my aunt.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Thank you Mariette, I will look for your Australian posts. How nice to have an uncle in Adelaide, a lovely city. I have never been to Broken Hill, far out in the West. Amazing that you have visited there.

    2. I just read your posts about visiting Sydney for a conference, as well as the Blue Mountains. We know Sydney very well, in fact in the 90s and 2000s our daughter lived/worked in Sydney and I visited every 8 weeks. We have always loved the Blue Mtns, and have visited Jenolan caves 2-3 times. In fact in April last year we went on a Blue Mtns Garden Tour and loved it. You can find it in my blog posts last April/May. P.

    1. Thank you Rosemary. It is usually a bright blue sunny day, but this year was wet and grey, and we had a cosy afternoon with our son and his little family.

  4. Belated Happy Australia Day, Patricia! What beautiful and colourful photos. Australia is a place I'd like to visit one day. I love pavlova and my recipe is authentic as I got it from the Australian midwife who delivered our middle child. It's my go-to dessert when I can't think of anything else.

    1. Thank you Lorrie, hope you can visit one day. I am impressed you have a good pavlova recipe - as long as there are eggs, you have a great dessert opportunity 😍🇦🇺

  5. Such a wonderful day to celebrate, Patricia. Thank you for showing us a little of your lovely Australia. I loved seeing the waterfalls. I don't live far from some beautiful waterfalls as well. They are always so calming to look at. Your birds are magnificent! If only I could look out my window and see those Lorikeets. So glad you got to spend the day with your son. Now, I'm wondering what Australian Pavlova is. It sure looks scrumptious. : )

    1. Hi Sheri, I can imagine waterfalls in your lovely mountains. A pavlova is like a giant meringue the size of a large cake, cooked at a low temperature. The idea is to have a crisp outside, and like marshmallow inside. Then it is decorated with lots of cream and fresh fruit!

    1. Thank you Debra. We do have a lot of colorful birds, but I usually only show the ones which visit us. We all love our beaches, and our population is concentrated around the coastal fringe. Hope all is going well with you.

  8. Lovely photos as always, Patricia. I am always struck by the vivid colours of the birds and blooms in your world. They really are lovely. As I said on my own post, can we trade a bit of your heat for our cold? I'd love that! Happy Australia day to you.

    1. Yes, time for a weather swap Val, but you might not like the violent storms we have had this week!! We do live in a very colorful world here in the tropics.

    1. It was just perfect for these times, Carrie. We are still doing our best to isolate ourselves from the Pandemic. I do hope we can all travel again one day, and you can fly over to Australia. Just take a flight from Los Angeles and you will be here in 13 hours :) xx
