THE EVENING NEWS

Hello..
All those lovely commenters who told me to take care -
oops, I overdid it last week, and rather went backwards for a few days...

It was probably a bit soon, but I had the opportunity to go to the theatre...
remember Deborah Kerr and Yul Brunner dancing up a storm in
The King and I, back in 1956?

The stage version is currently playing in Brisbane, with Lisa McCune as Anna and opera star Teddy Tahoe Rhodes as the King of Siam.

Lots of gorgeous colour and sparkle, and all those lovely old songs.
For me the highlight was Shu-Cheen Yu as Lady Thiang, the senior wife of the king, singing Something Wonderful: exquisitely...

I bought a yellow orchid - just because..

Been working on the crotcheting, and completed nine squares:

Haven't joined them yet, but decided to make one enormous square as a rug:

I wonder how many colours I can use and how large I can make this?

It is nice and cold now in the morning, and the teapot needs a cosy cover,

 my pansies are already flowering,

and Little Aussie came to visit!

He sang the Happiness Song for us, strumming our old ukulele with the enthusiasm of any four year old boy..

We are all still in love with 1980s space Lego...

and I finally got him away from doing waterhole cakes, by trying a green field of dinosaurs.
I let him do it all by himself...

I made chicken pies tonight, because it is nearly Winter -
even if the maximum temperature today was, ahem, 25 degrees!

Our youngest son turns 35 tomorrow -
where have all those years gone?
I still think of him as the baby...

We are so proud of all our children, who have made happy and successful lives for themselves.  It is definitely one of life's greatest rewards.

Keep safe and well,

XXXX

    1. Thank you Amy, taking it a bit more carefully now, and finding nice things. The cake salutes you! He asked again for a waterhole cake, but was easily persuaded to go green. xx

  2. It is very easy to overdo things, and think that all is back to normal - but the body tends to give out little warnings indicating "enough is enough".
It is lovely that you let little Aussie create his own cakes, he will have lots lovely memories when he looks back.
I loved The King and I, was it really so long ago.

    1. Dear Rosemary, I fall into that trap every time! You would think I'd learn, but at least I do heed the 'enough is enough' when it hits. Aussie is a sweet little guy; apart from the cooking, he gathered up lots of fallen rosepetals and placed them around the house, saying it was a Fairy Garden! Love the King and I..

  3. Hello Patricia,

Wonderful that you felt well enough to overdo things, but heed your body's warnings and take life at a slower pace for a while!

It does seem to be all go at your place, however, what with crocheting, visiting the theatre and making cakes! How we remember waltzing round the room to tunes from the King and I.....several decades ago!

    1. It is all go with the little boy is here, Jane and Lance, but quieter days this week. You know, I did put in a line about waltzing around to those tunes, and imagining oneself as Anna. I'm so glad you did the same!

  4. Seeing the King and I sounds like such a treat. Sorry to hear you've had a little set back. Just looking at this post and all you've been up to it appears you've been very busy. I like crocheted "Granny Squares" but hate sewing them together. The tea cozy is delightful though - and I expect not much sewing needed. I agree, our families happiness is so important to us. Grandchildren's visit being the icing on the cake.

    1. Ah, yes, Darla, I suspect I will hate sewing them together as well, which is why I stopped at nine, and started a big one.
We love out grandson visits - even after a few weeks we can see new developments in his language and thoughts. Wonderful!

  5. I'm glad you got a chance to see The King and I, but sorry to hear the outing slowed down your recovery. The crochet squares are looking great, and are probably a better activity to pursue while you convalesce than going to the theatre. :-)

    1. The King and I was old-world gorgeous, Kristie, and worth the effort. Crotchet is good for keeping one sitting down - there is a bit of stitchery on the go too.

  6. The King and I is on in Paris too rjght now. You've inspired me to go and see it? I'll share my impressions on the cast here ... And you must stop overdoing things ! The Eiffel Tower says : Hello and à bientôt ! xoxo

    1. In Paris? I wonder how that title appears in French - I'll have to get my French dictionary and work it out.

  7. Patricia,
This is the second post I saw today about the theatre, how wonderful it is. I love chicken pot pies, and the one you made looks so yummy. The tea warmer is sweet, and it's great that you bought yourself a yellow orchid......just because. I think that's the best reason of all.

    love,

  11. It seems that you and Morty share the same enthusiasm ( sorry, if you feel bad as I am comparing you with Morty ). But it seems, that Morty too is very active after his operation.
Handwork and theater really are your " thing ", but first comes your family.
It does feel good to have adult children, who are happy with their life!
    Winter : + 25! We call that number heat ; ).

    1. I'm very happy to be compared to Morty, Mette, and I am sure we'd be the best of friends if we got together!
Adult children are such a pleasure; we celebrated the birthday with our son and his wife at an excellent organic restaurant. The food was amazing. Yes, 25 is warm, winter is only pretending and teasing us this week.

    1. Thank you Perpetua, sometimes the birthday and other celebrations turn up at the wrong time! Doing my best to not overdo things; I need to be in the best of condition when we finally re-schedule our European trip :)

  13. Hi Val, Thank you - I thought the green icing was more attractive than the blue in the waterhole, especially when we have to eat it so as not to upset the little man. Must be getting better, because I have started on Vintage Vogue car coat, making the muslin, and have bought leopard print faux fur from Spotlight - wish me luck making that up!

  14. Lovely post Patricia and very envious that your near winter heat of 25 degrees is warmer than our near summer heat here in the UK! Hope you're feeling better now and do take care. It's very easy to overdo it sometimes. Have a great weekend.

    1. Hi Patricia, weather's gone off on a crazy tangent again - 27 deg forecast today. Normal for now would be about 21. Hope it gets it together by June 1st, official start of Winter. Trying to not overdo it, and having a quiet weekend. Apart from a symphony concert tonight :) Have a great weekend over in Blighty, too! xx

  15. Love your handiwork, Patricia! I remember how one of my aunts knitted and crotcheted so many beautiful blankets and things. As always, I love your greenthumb. I have been missing from the blogosphere as late, so I missed that you were going into the hospital. Glad you are mended and all went well.

    1. Thank you Debra. All is OK now, thankfully. I'm hoping my efforts at crotchet will yield something as nice as your aunts! Planting a few blue salvias in the garden this weekend. I love blue flowers.
