RED ROTHKO

 Bonjour!
The Red Cardinals have naturally been to the theatre to see the local production of the Broadway hit Red.

Red is a study of an incident in the life of the artist Mark Rothko (1903-1970),
my favourite of the New York Abstract Expressionist Colourfield painters who emerged in the 1950s.

So of course I had a high old time, and loved every minute of it.

The scene where the two actors, as Rothko and his assistant,
speed-painted a huge red canvas right before us was brilliant.
Red paint flew everywhere, amid frenzied musical accompaniment.
After all that excitement I needed a herbal tea and a good lie down!

The next morning I re-named my new Mary Janes Rothko....

I wore this new dress, bought for travelling.  Just scrunches up into a ball and falls out ready to wear.  It passed the test.
I think I had a bit of a royal thing going on with all those crowns...

Last travel item, I promise, a yellow knit jacket.
When I assemble my mix and match capsule wardrobe, I will share ...

Yes, we've been out bush again with my Dad.
He loves his Sunday drives so much, particularly when it finishes with an icecream.

Bonsoir!

XXXX

  1. I'm glad that you're still finding time in the midst of all your preparations for some culture and trips out, Patricia. Your new dress looks so practical and comfortable and I love the yellow jacket - a colour I simply cannot wear.

    1. Could not miss Red, and I was fascinated with the piece. Yellow jacket called to me like a siren, although I know the majority of women avoid/can't wear/ don't like wearing yellow! It seems to suit me, and certainly suits our sunny climate.

  2. The yellow jacket is very smart - you will look stunning in it.
Glad you had a good time at the theatre, it sounds an interesting piece of theatre.
Love your shoes too, they look smart and very comfortable.

    1. Thanks Rosemary, Can't wait to go out in that jacket, but it is still a bit hot here. The shoes have the extra advantage of taking my orthotics - win win!!

  3. It seems the trip preparations are well in order. The dress sounds ( and looks) perfect. The show sounds excellent, and the bush photos are fabulous. I am starting to think ahead to the possibility of my next Aussie trip...hopefully next January. I just love Australian skies, and the bush colours are so unlike anything in Europe. Keep enjoying the preparations for the trip, and keep us informed ! Jx

    1. Oo, Janice, exciting to think you might be coming to Australia. There is no doubt our skies are different, and I love them and miss them when I go to cooler climes. Hope you come to Queensland and maybe we could catch up? xx

  5. " Red " must have been a great experience!
What a perfect dress you have, so pretty, yet practical.
Are the pictures of the forest " autumn " pictures? They really look like from a fairy tale.
How kind of you to tour your " Dad " around.

    1. Hello Mette, yes, it is autumn here, but the bush looks much the same all year round! The palm trees never die off so are always there. The ducks in the water are the point of difference here, because they are domestic ducks apparently from a nearby farm, and it is unusual to see them swimming in such a place. I thought they looked really pretty.

    1. Val, I thought the same thing, it looked so exciting to paint in that wild way! I was thinking of Pollock also. The play was great because it felt like going back in time to New York, loft apartment, 1950s. Glad you like the outfits, and Happy May day to you too. xxx

  7. I love your shoes, they look just so comfy and as for that dress, apart from being pretty i love the way you can scrunch it up and it just falls into place.....now that's my kind of clothing!! Lucky dad, with his trips and ice cream. x

  8. Hi Suzy, They are comfy shoes, and I thought the dress a brilliant find. Dad is fairly serene most of the time, as long as he consistently gets a nice little drive in the country, a coffee and the odd icecream! I guess it is all very simple when you are 92.. xx

  9. Hello, Patricia ! That picture of your father brought tears to my eyes, it made me think of mine, who passed away too soon and at the same time, it made me so happy to see your own Dad well-taken care of and enjoying himself. My own father would be 90 now ; next sunday, give yours a big kiss for me !xxx

    1. Hello Silver Bunny, Thanks for your lovely comment; just think - our fathers were contemporaries when they were boys in the 1920s! Dad would love to have a kiss from a silver bunny - he loves both girls and cute animals :) xxx
