The leaves look nice in a vase, which is handy because most of our pot plants have died in the heat!
With some of my stitchery friends, I have started an online challenge:
to make little fabric collage/embroidered booklets inspired by our favourite books. It goes for six months, one book per month.
I decided to do something Gothic, and rummaged through my collection of precious fabric scraps. These survived the downsizing and came with me in small plastic tubs.
Reader, I chose 'Jane Eyre'...
and this is my cover. The embroidered lady is cut from an old doily, and hand-stitched onto the background of collaged fabrics.
My personal rule is not to buy any new fabrics or trims, just use my stash of scraps, recycled items, and a few hoarded buttons, keys, and other bits.
My friend J painted this gorgeous floral bunch, and gifted it to me as a house-warming gift.
It is quite large, and fits our house very well.
Speaking of Gothic, did you see Margot Robbie at the World Premiere of 'Wuthering Heights' in Los Angeles this week? She stars as Catherine with Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff.
And both of them come from Queensland. We are very smitten by this!
What an incredible dress. She looks amazing.
And wait, here is another dramatic look today, in Chanel at the Paris premiere:
Next week, Margot will be in Sydney for the Australian premiere, and I look forward to seeing the next amazing look...
I would also like to go and see the movie.....
The Red Cardinals watched Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein on Netflex on Saturday night, and enjoyed this re-telling of a novel we studied back in the day.
Vale to Valentino, the master of a dramatic red gown.
I put out my catalogue from the exhibition we had here in Brisbane at GoMA in 2010. It was one of my first assignments to conduct the guided tours and I loved it so much. There were about 100 of his most famous outfits, including the little lace mini worn by Jackie when she married Onassis. The red gowns were spectacular. He would have loved to dress Margot Robbie - she is fearless with fashion...
This is where we cool off when the temperature approaches 40c as it did on Sunday.
and when it is cool enough I am sitting here...
I made a simple Summer dress recently, and am sewing some cool rayon pants and loose top. My sewing diary says I have not made anything since last April, the longest time in my life that I have not sewn clothing for myself...
Life is returning to normal.
Have a good week

Patricia, your roses are coming along nicely, and I'm glad they are Ok with the heat you're having. They are such sturdy flowers. The magnolia flower must look lovely on your hutch with all the pretty white items you have on there. What a nice housewarming gift your friend painted for you. And it will bring a splash of color to your home, with all the different shades she used. Wow, that dress is something else. I like your sewing area looking out the window to your pool. That must be refreshing to see in such warm weather. It's always an adjustment when we move, but it looks like you are doing well and finding ways to put out things that make your heart smile, and to make your house feel like home again. : )
ReplyDeleteYes, I am finally at the point where it feels like our home, and enjoy bringing in new items to change the look. It all took time, especially as we needed to make various repairs, and with more to come. It is good to be able to sew again too :)
DeleteOh, your lovely pool! Let me come and stay with you! My husband admired your pretty magnolia. (I asked him to read your post and he did so!) We sure know about having to water twice in one day! Our heat here us intense in the spring and summer and fall!! Love those dresses!! I replied to the comment you left on my blog, I wondered if you saw the fashions at the Grammy Awards?
ReplyDeleteAw, that is nice that you shared it with your husband. You do have extremes of climate, if you have the same intense heat, and yet you get snow. I would love a bit of snow here sometimes, although it can get down to Zero. No I missed the Grammies, too busy. Waiting for the Oscars and watching Margot now, lol.
DeleteOh, the heat! I'd be very glad for a pool to cool off in, too. It's lovey that your roses are blooming for you, probably because you take such good care of them.
ReplyDeleteThe Valetino exhibition would have been so interesting to see. I love both the dresses shown above for the Wuthering Heights movie. Such glamour!
I really love roses, and they are worth the effort. Hoping to get another mini one tomorrow. I am looking through my files for some photos of the Valentino exhibition in 2010, hoping to share some on the blog.
DeleteHello Dearest!!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing and reading that life is coming back to normal for you. And that you're back to sewing - Yay!! That cover turned out so pretty!! I adore that red dress and gorgeous necklace Margot wore to the premier...absolutely stunning! 😍 Your flowers are looking beautiful. It's still always so funny to me how when we're freezing and in the dead of winter -you are soaking up summer's heat. Feel free to send some warmth this way ...and I'll send some cool. Lol Blessings 💗
Thank you dear Carrie. I think the necklace Margot wears belonged to Elizabeth Taylor, and comes from her archive. It is amazing. I bought a new tiny bright pink mini rose today. Let's see how that goes :) xxxxx
DeleteYour pool looks fabulous as your roses.
ReplyDeleteMay
Thank you May. The roses send their regards.
DeleteAnother darling post, Patricia. I'm looking forward to the Wuthering Heights movie as well, so much hype around it, and I adore your pink roses, so beautiful and so appreciative of your excellent care. Stay cool!
