EARTHSHOT GREEN

The Great Barrier Reef, one of the Wonders of the World, lies parallel to our Queensland Coast in the tropical waters south of the Equator.

Concerns have been raised for many years about the condition of the Reef, the effects of pollution and/or global warming.  While opinions may differ, we all agree that the Reef must be protected and cared for into the future.

Indigenous Women of the Great Barrier Reef have been training women over the past four years, to be Rangers bringing together ancient knowledge and modern conservation tools to better protect the Reef.

It was quite a thrill to learn today that this organisation is the winner of the 'Revive our Oceans' section of the Earthshot Prize Awards, announced in Boston this week.

Well done, fellow Queenslanders!

The Awards are a personal project for Prince William, and the Prince and Princess of Wales have been warmly welcomed in Boston.

Princess Catherine looked stunning on the green carpet in a rented, chic green gown.  For the first time, she is seen wearing an emerald necklace favoured by the late Princess Diana.

Australians will remember this night in Sydney in the 1980s:

Diana surprised us by wearing the emeralds as a headband - which better suited her one-shouldered gown.

Those were happier times for the Prince and Princess...

Christmas is fast approaching....

Have a good week....

  1. I was delighted to learn that the Indigenous Women of the Great Barrier Reef had won one of the four Earthshot prizes. They are doing something incredibly worthwhile for us all. Not only are they helping the Great Barrier Reef but they are repairing a very important part of our planet.

    1. Thank you Rosemary: the group of women are quite wonderful, beautifully organised with a lovely appropriate uniform. We must do our best to save our Wonder of the World.

  2. Beautiful pictures. Wish darling Kate would gain a little weight, but aren't a few us wishing to lose.

Merry Christmas, mercy in the summertime Down Under.

    1. So true, I wish to love to lose a little, and Kate is getting a bit too thin. I suspect she works too hard these days. Merry Christmas.

  3. Dearest Patricia,
Our Planet Earth is so full of treasures and let's hope that the greed of people for money will not destroy a big part.
Princess Catherine is a very graceful woman and she presents herself so elegantly—just like her well loved Mother–in–law.
You are entering a lovely season!
Here we're facing the dreary dark days.
We managed to bike yesterday and most leaves have come down by now... A sad sight.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. So true Mariette, but at least awareness has now led to control of the emissions which were going into the sea of the Reef. The Rangers are a brilliant idea. Our Summer can be very nice, although the little heatwaves (today: 37 deg C) can sap one's energy! I think the dreary dark days would be hard to face too. Happy Biking!

  4. Hi dear Trish -
How fantastic that the Indigenous Women of the Great Barrier Reef won an award. That is one part of Australia I've not visited - perhaps some day!
Catherine looked awesome, only she could make a gown in that shade of green look so good! I read that the invites for the awards ceremony stressed that people did not purchase new outfits to save on waste, but wear recycled clothes. Renting was a good idea - I see many young women in larger cities do this now!
Thinking of you and the family as the Christmas season approaches - love the Norfolk Island Pine, bet you can grow them in your garden as they are 'native' I believe. I just purchased a small potted one for granddaughter Jasmin's apt. as she doesn't have space for a traditional fir - she is thrilled with it.
Love and hugs, Mary & Bob

    1. Hi Mary, I was so proud the Indigenous Women group won a prize - apart from the $$$, the publicity is invaluable. The rented gown is a difficult shade of green, and one I would avoid, but Catherine wore it perfectly on the green carpet. We do have Norfolk Island pines in our area, and one outside our bedroom window. I think they look like Christmas trees, all year round. Love and hugs. xox

  5. How wonderful that the Indigenous Women of the Great Barrier Reef won the award. They, of all people, love and care for the reef.
I was so impressed that Catherine wore a rented gown for the occasion, and what a lovely tribute to her mother-in-law's visit to Australia to wear the emeralds.
I spent several hours today gussying up the house for Christmas. No tree yet as we have a real tree and want it to have needles left on it by Christmas. But the lights on the mantel and piano are glowing as darkness falls this late afternoon.

  7. Oh, I remember the emerald headband Diana wore with her dress. She looked stunning. How I miss her. I sometimes watch episodes of The Crown to remember her, as there was no one quite like her. Catherine looks so pretty in her green dress. I love that color. It's good to know that this organization is trying to protect the reef. I often wonder about our great oceans and lakes and what they have been through over centuries, as some of the waters look polluted. The first photo you shared is beautiful with the fish swimming merrily along.

Have a pleasant December week, Patricia.

    1. **that was such a cute story about your children growing up and the shepherd's pie at Christmastime. I'm not sure what that is, so will have to look it up right now. Thank you for sharing your dear story, Patricia.

    2. Hi Sheri, glad you enjoyed the reef pictures. It is a beautiful experience to go see the Great Barrier Reef. We took our children when they were young, and this year our daughter from Canada took her boys there too.
Who can forget Diana and her fabulous emeralds.

  9. Hi Trish!
It's one of my bucket list items - to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef (if that's still allowed?) You're right - Kate did look absolutely stunning! I think green may be her color. I love that look on Diana too. Both very classy ladies. It has been hustle and bustle holiday prepping here too as it is rapidly approaching. Sending you snowy & frost covered winter blessings from the northwoods. xoxo

    1. Hi Carrie, Yes, I think you can arrange to snorkel at the Reef. Hope you come one day. Hustle and bustle is a good description of the season - all happening here too! Would love some snow and frost this week, we are having 37 C temperatures. I am off to retreat at the Mall, he he xoxo

  13. I love the color green but seldom wear certain shades of it tends to wash me out. I wear it as an accent color to get it in. Green is always gorgeous in nature. Emeralds too! :)

    1. Green can be tricky. I have a bright green dress for Christmas day, but I might feel a bit like a traffic light!

  14. Green is a funny colour for clothes, I don't see many people wearing it, for some reason. I can't imagine why! The Great Barrier Reef is certainly one of the wonders of the world, and how impressive that the native women are working to protect it. I am glad William and Kate have taken on Charles' interest in the environment. As King he does not have the freedom to follow his passion anymore (the awful Liz Truss made it impossible for him to attend the environmental summit) It must make him happy to see William carrying it on, even though his other son is proving such a disappointment. .

    1. Yes, green is a bit confronting I think. There is a lot of green in the shops here this Summer, but not a lot are wearing it. I feel conspicuous in my green linen dress. I did not know Liz Truss made it impossible for the King to go to the summit. How awful! I am so impressed William is following his father's footsteps in this way. I always liked how Prince Charles cares for the environment including the built environment. I really feel for him regarding son No. 2.
