OUR GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY

Fifty years ago, on December 11, 1971, we were married...

two young people, looking forward to establishing a life and family together.

And we did.

Over the weekend we celebrated our Golden Wedding Anniversary.

There were roses, and Golden Gifts..

Our daughter sent champagne..

Alas, due to Covid, she is unable to visit from Canada.

We hope to have a party when the day comes that she can fly here once more.

Our sons arranged an exquisite celebratory cake, and lunch at a restaurant..

The toddler twins were there too, our first such event since they came to live here.

Fifty years on, and still smiling..

Would we do it all again?
Of course we would...

We loved our golden day, and we love that we are still working and active, and able to enjoy this special anniversary.

I'd love to hear about any other Golden Wedding Anniversaries out there...

  1. We celebrated our 51st anniversary in September. No one expected us to last with some of my family members not "pleased" about my choice in my husband - his past and my religious upbringing. But, here we are! Merry Christmas and a Most Happy New Year from Georgia USA.

    1. Well done Mother Em. Not everyone was 'pleased' with my choice, either - but it just made us more determined to succeed. Merry Christmas to you in lovely Georgia USA.

    1. Thank you Lorrie, it was fun and quite a milestone. Where have the years gone? I loved the cake, having never cut into a tall modern one before. We have frozen remaining slices for a little while to enjoy after Christmas. The next five years will fly, and you too will be having a Golden moment!

  4. What a wonderful celebration, Patricia. 50 years, that is so very special. The red roses are perfect for your day of love. Champagne and chocolate and a fabulous cake - these are lovely gifts. And I like the figurine with the 50 to remember your sweet celebration. You look lovely in your wedding gown, and I like your head piece. A sweet and treasured picture of the two of you fifty years later. Congratulations, dear friend.

    1. The figurine came from our daughter- a sweet reminder of our special day. I loved my headpiece; it had loops of ribbon and tiny flowers. Bridal gowns were a bit more formal then, compared to today. Thank you for your lovely comments Sheri

  5. You looked so lovely on your wedding day, but so too do you on your golden day.
The celebratory cake looks wonderful along with all of the tasty additional treats.
It is sad that your daughter could not be with you but lovely that your new twin grandsons were there with you.

    1. Thank you Rosemary. In a way, it is hard to recognise those two young faces, so long ago! We enjoyed our day, and had a great facetime chat with our daughter too. The little boy twins are really cute, running around and getting to know us.

Glad you enjoyed our old wedding photos, from simple times when only a few pictures were taken. We had a great time on our Golden day: the champagne, the chocolates, the cake....

  7. Congrats my beautiful Trish! God's blessings over you both for many more years to come! I loved seeing the wedding pics of you too. And you both look wonderful and still have the twinkle in your eyes. 💝
My marriage ended one year shy of our 25th, sadly. Not the path I would have chosen but I have been accepting a new full life. I have a very special fellow in my life now and I do think about someday being okay with marriage again. I'd like to think I would be. And maybe I'll get a 25th one day.
But 50 is beautiful and so impressive!! Thanks for sharing it with us. xo

    1. Dear Carrie, thank you for your kind comment. We had a lovely celebration and cannot believe it is 50 years already. It was sad indeed that your marriage ended and I know you found it difficult. I do wish you future happiness with a special person to share your life. Xo

  8. Dearest Patricia,
A happy belated congrats to your Golden Wedding Anniversary!
What a milestone that is... but hind sight it all went so fast.
So sorry that your daughter from Canada could not travel to be with you.
Back in The Netherlands my best friend is having her 50th and another dear friend had to postpone hers a year and once again they're in a lockdown.
Wishing you good health; that is all we NEED.
    Big hugs,
    Mariette

    Congratulations coming your way.
Stay well and happy during these difficult times and here's to you with a late glass of bubbly and big hugs XX
