TWINS!

A few days ago we became grandparents again...

A big welcome to little boy twins!

Mum and Dad are our Sydney-sider son and his Irish wife.
Long-term readers will remember we went to Ireland in 2016 for their wedding, along with Young Aussie who is now a big brother.
Aussie is over the moon to have not one, but two little brothers.

To add to the excitement, today is Father's Day in Australia, and the little footprints above were on cards presented to their Daddy from the twins, in the icu unit of the hospital.

The twins were born about 8-9 weeks early, and will be in special care for some time.  However, they are doing really well, and learning to breath and eat and recognize their parents.
Their theme song is Twinkle Twinkle little star....
something which began after I found this fabric to make baby wraps:

Perfect, isn't it?

Young Aussie came to see us yesterday.
Here he is with Papa Cardinal whacking a few balls in the garden..

He still likes the occasional piano lesson, and asked me to teach him Beethoven's Fifth Symphony!!

I found this simple version and after about 20 minutes he was managing it:

His Dad was most impressed....

Last week Aussie turned eleven, and we visited him and his pet chickens:

They are all fluffy, so all have names beginning with F...

In other news, we celebrated Father's Day today with a picnic for Mr Cardinal, now the grandfather of five boys ....

We sat on our favourite spot beside the Brisbane River, always lovely to watch the pelicans, ducks, and canoes...

I made a rustic berry tart - very rustic, but delicious.
Chicken and champagne may also have been consumed...

And continued our explorations of interesting hinterland towns with a drive to Rosewood.  The Rising Sun Hotel has been a gorgeous building in its day and is heritage listed.  So sad that it is in a state of decay..

The beautiful St Brigid's Church, also heritage listed, is in desperate need of restoration.
It is one of Australia's finest wooden churches.

Loved this old wooden seat in the grounds...

It is a sad fate of many regional towns, once prosperous, which go into decline when by-passed by highways, and when industries fade away..

We were also intrigued by the fading beauty of this large house 'Glendalough' built in the early twentieth century by a local politician and businessman, who built to impress.

It has many fascinating and quirky architectural elements, and appears to have been built in three stages.
The house is Heritage listed, but is in a sad state of neglect.
It could be a wonderful tourist attraction, but of course would need a large injection of funds.

I found this picture of Glendalough in better days:

Surprise from our vegetable pots:  The last of the capsicum plants actually produced fruit.  Twins.  The same day the little identical twin boys arrived.
Isn't that spooky?

Happy Father's Day to all fathers in Australia!

Be safe.

    Twin boys, how delightful.
Happy Father's Day in Australia to all the fathers, especially the one with twins!
I do remember when you went to Ireland for the wedding, and I am remembering I really liked the dress you wore. I will have to go back and look now!

    1. Ah, very good, two of everything :)
Never thought we would have twins in our family, so what a beautiful surprise. And they are identical which is more fun. That is sweet you remembered my pink dress - and hat! Don't get much chance to dress up these days, do we :( Grandchildren are such a joy.

  3. Congratulations on the birth of your twin grandchildren! Two boys! Double the fun!
The Father’s Day celebrations sound marvellous.
Those chickens look very exotic...nothing like the ones I usually see here.
    Take care Patricia.

    1. Double fun indeed. There has been a lot of celebration happening around here. We have made an art form of visiting country hamlets, eating our picnic, and not touching a thing that is not ours. The way of the future!

  4. How wonderful that the new twin boys have arrived into the world safely and are doing well. Congratulations to you both - there will be lots of fun ahead in the years to come.
It would be lovely if those old timber houses, are they classed as colonial? could be restored back into their former glory.

    1. The twin boys have brought such joy and a permanent smile to my face :) We do look forward to having fun with them when they are a bit older.
The three buildings are Heritage classification, which means of historical and cultural importance to the town, but I looked for their dates and all were built at the beginning of the 20th century. As we became a Federation in 1901 that would mean they are not colonial. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, funds for restoration projects are unlikely to be available for a long time. I do hope they can be restored before it is too late.

    1. Thank you! Bravo to Aussie indeed! He likes to do it for fun, but does not want to have serious lessons with a teacher. Perhaps when he is older, he certainly has good musical instinct.

    1. Hi Debra, yes, so much fun to have twins. Sydney is a long way from us, and currently the borders are still closed. Little Aussie was born to our son in his first marriage, and lives in Brisbane about an hour from us. The twins are the first children of the marriage of our son to the Irish lady in 2016. All of us are celebrating! This year we cannot leave our area, so instead of hopping on a plane to somewhere, we are looking closer to home and finding lots of little surprises.

    1. Hi Sheri, thank you, it was a real thrill to have twins come along. Ossie is packing up some of his baby toys for them. Hopefully the twins will do well, we are praying for them as they are very small and very premature. I am making a long list of picnic spots, our preferred outing to avoid contact with crowds. Be safe.

  13. How on earth did I miss this, Patricia! Congratulations on the birth of your twin grandchildren!! That's fabulous news and I love the little footprints. Young Aussie is a talented young man. I like his chickens too. As for the photos of your hinterland, what gorgeous old houses! So elegant, but what a shame one of them is in decay. I hope someone will be able to renovate it before it collapses. Keep well, Patricia!
