A HAPPY FLOOD

Hello
It may sound strange to be excited by a flood, but there it is:
local flash flooding caused by a heavy storm, possibly aided by a high tide downtream in the Brisbane River...

After the months of the Summer of Horror, heatwaves and bushfires, we are thrilled to have this bounty from Mother Nature...

This is Moggill Creek, alongside of which is a popular local walking track...

Today's flood was so quick, the bus driver was caught unawares, and could not cross the flooded creek.
Passengers were soon out, standing on the bridge and taking photos..

And the locals were there as well, including the Red Cardinals, armed with cameras and big smiles.
We Aussies have been water-starved for a very long time....

Raindrops on roses..

Yes, the Red Cardinal garden is finally getting into flowering like Springtime - although Autumn is only a few weeks away..

For several months, we had not a bloom in sight during the Big Heat..

Our lawn has come back to bright green, so pretty..

More raindrops on roses..

We almost lost a tree fern in this garden, but it has grown a new frond.

The cheeky cockatoos still come looking for food, watching me at breakfast time...

New cushion, K mart, $8.00!!
It is time for a watery picture:

Rahel Ungwanaka, 1946- Arrernte/Luritja people NT. 'Waterbirds' 2002
Rahel Ungwanaka, another painter and potter from the Hermannsburg School in Central Australia (see previous post).  A founding member of the Hermannsburg Potters, her work is known for her quirky and irreverent painting style, and dramatic depictions of the Western MacDonnell landscape, as seen in this picture of the country associated with the work of the late indigenous artist Albert Namatjira {1902-1959}

Have a great week

xxxx

  1. Congratulations on the Happy Rain!
Beautiful birds on your porch from this continent look like somebody left the pet store door open. What a beautiful sight to see flowers and birds in your yard.

    1. We are so happy to have a wet season! Ha, our wild birds would not like a pet store at all: they fly free all around the area, roost in high trees, and generally have a great time :)

    1. Thank you Rosemary, if ever prayers were answered, this is it. We are all so grateful, and must not forget to look after our land in the future. The new green growth is brilliant, like the colour of Ireland!

  7. In a country which has suffered from heatwaves and bushfires, it's wonderful to know about the rain! I miss the smells of after-rain I remember. Here in Manhattan there is too much concrete to experience the smell. When I left for school early in the mournings I could smell the grass, which I also miss living here. That's what your photos remind me of, Trish … those earthy smells!

I also see happy and pretty birds and flowers. Those birds are having a party!

    1. Oh yes, I love the after-rain smells too Debbie! That is one of the joys of living on the edge of the city, the best of both worlds. I really can't see us relocating to an inner city apartment, although it would be more sophisticated :) Hi from the cockatoos!

  8. Ah rain and floods...we too have them here.
Hope the fires are going to be extinguished by this precipitation.
Enjoy your week and the flowers look so pretty :-))

    1. Yes, the best news I read today was a list of fires extinguished over the past few days. It really is the answer to a lot of prayers, up and down the east coast of Australia. Our flowers look prettier than ever from all the rain. Thank you for calling by :)

  9. Oh my, it sure did rain in your area, Patricia. Look at how high it got! I always appreciate a good rain. It cleans everything out and makes it fresh again. Your roses are so pretty, and I'm sure they loved getting some water. You have many cockatoos coming to see you, and right in your front yard, that's wonderful. And your little glass birds are sweet.

Happy Valentine's Day to you, dear friend.

    1. It is great how the creeks are cleaned out, and yesterday the Council came by and collected all the old logs caught along the bridge etc. Nature is doing us a good turn right now, and the garden is getting overgrown by the day. The little glass birds came from Canada, in my daughter's local drug shop, so they are very special to me: two little cardinals, a boy and a girl. Happy Valentine's Day Sheri :)

  11. Hello beautiful Trish! Sorry I've been overdue to pop in and say hi. I'm so happy to see you've got rain (not flooding necessarily), but I understand taking the blessings and being grateful for them wherever we're able! The blooming and the green and the flowers are so beautiful! And make me so jealous. 😂 I always love your knowledge of such pretty artwork and how you share it with us. And the cockatoos crack me up! We only see them in the pet stores here. Blessings on your week ahead and continued healing and peace for your gorgeous homeland. 🙏 ❤️

  13. Patricia, the pink blossom trees are either cherry or almond trees, but I just call them pink blossom trees haha. They grace my town at Springtime, and they look so pretty on the streets, in the parks, and in the neighborhoods at this time. I hope February is being good to you. : )

    1. Ah, I have heard of the beautiful pink cherry trees, but have never seen them, nor the almond! They do not grow in our hot and humid climate. How beautiful to have them in your town. February is bringing continued rain and some storms, and we are grateful for every drop :)

  16. I'm late to visit - and see you've had some trolls posting comments. I'm just here to say I am so glad you finally got some rain. Your yard is looking beautiful and the lovely birds are still around. I thought of you often as we watched the awful fire news.

    1. Hello Darla. It has been so good to have a rain season, the first in many years. What a strange Summer indeed. We all wonder what on earth will happen next year! Thank you for thinking of us, those fires were absolutely dreadful...and you know all about that :)
Trolls are becoming quite a problem, and it is difficult to keep up with the deleting as it goes on many posts. I tried to find a solution in Settings, but had no luck.

  21. these organizations are extremely unpracticed, yet they are attempting to pull in individuals utilizing garish commercials. You have to meet with all imminent cleaning organizations face to face and you should "meet" a few preceding enlisting one.
