FESTIVAL OF SUMMER

And after the rain, came a heatwave.
Mid to high 30s C.
Not to my liking, but the Summer garden seems to like it.

Our one Hippeastrum lily flowered again, after taking a break in 2017.
Sadly, there was a white blemish on each flower - how strange...

The La Scala Ballet came to Brisbane.
Don Quixote was exhilarating!

The Nureyev version, as we saw years ago with the Australian Ballet -
great memories...

The sets were wonderful, we were right there in the Spanish village...

and Mr Cardinal had a birthday.
Here he is testing his new grill plate.

We had a small soiree for Australia famous 'Race which Stops a Nation', the Melbourne Cup.

Hats were worn..
Prizes were won...
Lunch was served...
with champagne, of course....
And I drew the Winner in the Sweepstakes: Twice!!

My red glass cardinal and little snowshoes from Canada...
The early Red Cardinal Christmas effort was duly noted.

Yes, The Tree is up.
Little Aussie came and offered help and advice.

In other news, the tardy Red Cardinal Jacaranda tree has finally begun to bloom.  Long after all the other trees in town.

I am giving it an A+ for effort with this big frond of gorgeous purple..

Eventually we will get a whole tree full of blooms.
But not yet.

Peace bloomed, on just the right day.

Lest We Forget.

  1. I adore Jacaranda trees, Patricia. I loved them in South Africa, and was so glad to see them in Portugal last year. What a lovely post! To see your signs of summer makes me very envious. I would be happy to have summer all year round. And Christmas trees already? I have to confess I haven't even given Christmas any thought! Have a lovely week, Patricia!

    1. Love that Jacarandas can be found in South Africa, and Portugal. Purple reigns! It sure is Summer here.
We always do Christmas trees early at our place, because this little birdie can't wait to play decorating. Am busy wrapping gifts for Canada as we speak :)

  2. I suspect your Jacaranda wants to stand out from the crowd lol! Loved your garden pics and your Christmas tree looks beautiful. I am so far behind this year lol! Happy birthday to your man.....we love our grill and it has travelled many miles with us. What a relief the cooler days have been xx

    1. You may be right Michelle. The one across the street starts early, and is nearly finished! We must have an individual here. Glad you like the tree, I never tire of Christmas stuff. Good to hear re the grill, we are still experimenting with it. So far so good. Keep cool. xox

  3. Gosh, tree up already! Mine does not go up until a few days before. And your Jacaranda looks very proud of it's efforts. The ballet must have been a treat - nothing like that down here in the Newcastle cultural desert. Many Happy Returns for Mr. C and I hope he has many full and active years ahead of him now his knee operation is behind him.

    1. Yes, we are on the extreme end of Christmas decorating here! And Little Aussie only encourages me...
The ballet was such a treat, beautifully executed and gorgeous to see. Thank you from Mr C - at last he is catching up on a busy 18 months: knee op, full time work, two o/s trips, hip fracture...and yesterday he attacked the jungle behind the garage, without pain, and filled the trailer! So proud :)

  4. Dear Patricia - your Jacaranda may be late, but better late than never, and you still have the add bonus of its flowers even though the other trees are finished.
Happy Birthday to Mr Cardinal and happy grilling days to him.
I always enjoy a trip to the ballet, it is so up-lifting.
I am like Vallypee - Christmas, although in the shops, is not with me yet.

  5. You and another Australian blogger Faux Fuchsia have your trees up! It’s a bit early for us...we usually put it up a few weeks before Christmas Eve. Enjoyed seeing those jacaranda flowers!

    1. Yes, it is a bit early for most Australians too! However I have always been early, often in mid-October, with the Tree the other Christmas decor. We have a lot of visitors in the lead up to Christmas and they seem to enjoy it. Because of the heat it is an artificial tree, thus not an issue of being up a long time. Glad you enjoyed the Jacarandas.

    2. I just now realized how much I'm learning form visiting your blog, Trish. I knew that Australia had many species of critters I've never seen, but now it dawns on me the same applies for flowers and birds. How beautiful they all are!

I just bought a SheaMoisture brand of body lotion that has Peace Rose as an ingredient, but I've never seen a peace rose growning, and here you've posted one! Like many women, I love flowers, including roses.

I celebrate the Kentucky Derby every May and could easily work up the enthusiasm for the Melbourne Cup. I'd feel right at home!

    3. We do have lots of pretty birds and flowers, but then so does America! And that is the first time I have heard of Peace rose as an ingredient, but why not? I am sure it is a lovely lotion. Yay for the Kentucky Derby :)

  6. The ballet sounds wonderful, Patricia. The dancers so graceful, and the costumes are pretty. Happy Birthday to your husband! I love that little race horse figurine. I try to find these porcelain figurines while shopping at vintage shops, and they are hard to find. The glass cardinal looks delightful outside on your porch. And your tree is up already! It gets me in the mood to get a tree, although I always get a fresh cut tree, and it's a bit too soon. The Jacaranda tree is gorgeous with its purple blooms. : )

Wishing you the sweetest November days, Patricia.

    love, ~Sheri

    1. Hi Sheri, it is a great ballet, and I loved seeing it again. The windmill scene was spectacular. Fossicking is so much fun, I know you like it too. I will be looking for more horses for our next Cup party. You will love your fresh tree; I enjoyed one last year when we had Christmas in Canada. Going out to select the tree was our activity on Day 1, and I loved the experience, snow and all. Happy days Sheri.

  7. The ballet must have been breath taking. Your garden looks quite happy. Peace roses are wonderful aren't they? We need to have Thanksgiving here before I put up Christmas decorations.

  8. I'm glad to catch up on all your news. I want to comment on everything - the pretty spring you are having, the La Scala Ballet (lucky you!), the race that stopped the nation, your tree decorations. But I'll just say - happy birthday Mr. C.

  9. I love jacarandas! I don't think they would grow here but they always give me a surprise, that particular colour of blossom doesn't seem to be found on any other tree. And Peace is my favourite rose.
