My love affair with a yellow dress intensified dramatically with the appearance of not one, but two Royal Duchesses in bright lemon..
I loved both these looks.
The wearing of yellow divides the masses - many hate it, and/or feel they cannot wear it. It seems to depend on the particular shade, and I love my yellows bright and sunny. A brownish gold mustard leaves me looking sallow.
Do you like or wear yellow?
In other royal news, Prince Louis looked adorable, full of smiles on his Christening Day.
I liked the way Duchess Catherine has continued her own tradition of dressing in cream to match the Royal Christening robe. A new style of hat too. I thought she looked lovely.
Meghan has quickly developed her own chic look, here in an unusual olive green. Now that is a colour I definitely cannot wear...
I was definitely taken with her navy Audrey Hepburn look for the Centenary of the Royal Navy, especially the flirty hat. She has the Princess look already.
For those not completely over our trip to Eastern Europe, This is the Elbe from Konigstein Fortress, in an area known as Saxon Switzerland for its stunning peaks and scenery.
German Romantic artists including Casper David Friedrich were inspired by these mountains. We enjoyed their painting at the Albertinum in Dresden:
Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840) The Cross in the Mountains (The Tetschen Altarpiece) 1807/08 |
Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840) Dolmen under Snow c. 1807 |
Carl Gustav Carus (1789-1869) Memory of a Wooded Island in the Baltic Sea (Oak trees by the Sea) |
Carl Gustav Carus (1789-1869) Woman on the Balcony 1824 |
Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840) Two Men Contemplating the Moon 1819/20 |
While we were travelling, sometime in the middle of June, Blogger stopped sending me notifications when comments were made on the blog. It took a while before I noticed this because we were so busy with the tour there was no time to download photos or read or write blogs.
Apologies to those readers who left comments on earlier posts and which received no response or reply. I have only read them yesterday!
After I returned home, I began trying to fix the problem via the Blogger Help Page. That is a weird nightmare place if ever there was one...
I put in my little help request, and discovered hundreds of people were having the same issues. Blogger sent an unintelligible explanation how to fix it. Over about a week I then received lots of other people's suggestions none of which I could manage to do. Then I was saved by a post by a freelance Blogger tech support technician, who posted simple instructions on the Help Page which worked immediately, and began to send me the comments.
If any of you are having this problem, if you mention it in a comment I will try to help you as I was helped.
XXXXX
I had the same problem with blogger along with other problems too, but a tech savy person helped me out.
ReplyDeleteYou have some wonderful images of the Elbe from up high, they look as if you are flying just like a bird.
I love yellow but it not really me as I don't feel happy in it. Navy is much more my style.
I wondered if it was the same situation Rosemary. Like you, I was thinking of giving up on the blogging, and was delighted to receive a whole bunch of comments today.
DeleteHigh above the Elbe did indeed feel like flying, and the outlook very different from mountain views in Australia. We were enchanted by it all.
I love navy too, and have lots of it. While I love yellow, one item at any one time is about right for me. Like a little focal point.
I enjoyed seeing all the photos from your European trip, so thank you for sharing them. I know from my blogging days that it takes precious time away from other things you could be doing on your travels to take the time to write blog posts.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I'm one of those people who can't wear yellow, but I actually love the colour and have always been sad that it makes me look like I'm coming down with a dreadful disease if I wear it. :-)
Hi Kristie, and I am happy that you are enjoying the European posts. The tour was more intensive than we are accustomed to, but we managed it very well and were extremely pleased with ourselves. Everything was new and different.
DeleteI think I can see that bright yellow would not work for you, but then you would probably look super in Meghan's olive green - and a lot of other Autumn tones.
Thank you for the photos of your trip and the art!
ReplyDeleteI cannot wear yellow, I am too pale. Also, I love that shade of green, same color as my eyes!☺
Glad you enjoyed it Kay. You too can wear that chic olive green - I saw a shirt in that colour while shopping today. I will look out for spotting you in green like your eyes!
DeleteLovely photos of the Elbe, you must have had a great trip in Eastern Europe. I really love the dresses, especially the yellow ones of the princesses. Yellow is not my favorite colour but I like to wear it on summer days. Blue suits me very well, is always good.
ReplyDeleteHello Janneke, We did love seeing Eastern Europe very much, the first time we have been to the former Communist countries. Yellow is lovely in Summer, but not so suitable in Winter I feel. Blue would look great with your colouring, but I need to be careful with it as I can look very sallow.
DeleteOh, I've always loved the color YELLOW in fashion. I'm wearing a new yellow blouse right now. : ) What a precious baby Prince Louis is. That is a sweet picture of mother and baby. Yes, many people were not getting their comments sent to their e-mails any more, and I'm sorry you were having trouble with it too. I know a blog friend who helped a lot of people with this, and I'm glad you found someone to help you as well. I am back to blogging again, and it sure is nice to be here among friends again. : )
ReplyDeletelove, ~Sheri
ps...not sure if I mentioned this, but after all the changes, I wasn't able to comment on certain blogs, including yours. But today, it let me comment. I never have trouble with the pop-up comments though. : )
DeleteCheers for your new yellow blouse Sheri. Perfect for the Summer. So pleased you are back blogging again, and I hope the Blogger nightmare passes you by. Thank you for telling me that people were unable to comment - I did not know this, and wondered why the comments had dropped off dramatically. Blogger is great when it works well, but now and then they upset everybody and do not seem to know or care.
DeleteOh yes, I do love the colo(u)r yellow. It's a bright, youthful, optimistic color; however, the right shade is crucial. As a semi-retired Image Consultant who advised my clients on the right colors for their skin tones, I know that warm and cool tones are very important. There are cool and warm shades of every color from bright yellow to grey.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post, Patricia. Yes, please let me know how to fix my "no comment received" problem w/Blogger. I have truly been at a loss. I could not post this comment under my blog account but had to use another account. Don't know what they are playing at at Blogger, but I am not amused.
Cheers, M-T
I can imagine you looking lovely in yellow Marie-Therese, and as I learnt when younger, skin tone is everything. I still have my little wallet of my cool Winter colours after meeting a Consultant back in the 80s.
DeleteThe way I fixed the comments from the dashboard is this:
Settings > Email > Comment Notification Email. Delete your own and any other email addresses, save, refresh the page, the add them again, save. Next go to your email inbox, where you should receive a subscription email, and confirm on any emails you receive to start receiving notifications for comments.
I don't use Comment Moderation, but if you do, the process is the same.
Good Luck!
Those clear, bright yellows are fabulous for cool Winter skin tones. I am a warm Autumn, so I tend towards the warm, mustardy yellows. I will give your Blogger advice a try and see how it goes. I'll let you know.
DeleteWould you mind if I added you to my Favorite Blog List for all my Readers to enjoy? I have a very select few on it, but would love to add yours.
Cheers, M-T
I would be delighted if you added me to your Blog list, M-T. I have been trying to add you to my Following list, but am not sure if I have succeeded. Fingers crossed on both accounts :)
DeleteI'll send you the link to my blog. Maybe that will help. BTW, your advice worked. Thank you so much. I am now getting emails again when there is a new comment.
DeleteCheers, M-T
So pleased you are now getting your emails again M-T. I would love a link to your blog!
DeleteWelcome home... what a great trip you had. I love the colour yellow but I look very sallow in it. Although that doesn't stop me making some mustard coloured jeans (not yet finished) as a wearable muslin. It's good fabric but it won't be missed if I don't wear them... now the same fabric in red would be missed!
ReplyDeleteThank you, we had a wonderful time. I like mustard too, and even though it is not really 'my' colour, I sneak a bit in from time to time. Recently, a linen dress. You amaze me what you can make: jeans!! Clever girl..
DeleteWonderful photos Trish. We are opposites....I can wear olive but not yellow. However I do love to see those who can wear it well xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Michelle. You look lovely in olive - and probably mustard? I think you are an Autumn to my Winter! xx
DeleteI think yellow is a very, very difficult colour to wear, and only looks good on people who are very dark haired and dark eyed. And even then it needs a tan, in my opinion! What wonderful crags in your latest batch of photos - they are dramatic and romantic, ideal backdrop for gothic novels!
ReplyDeleteIt seems you are right Jenny, and maybe that is a good thing. A little bit of yellow goes a long way I suspect. Yes, those mountains were indeed very gothic and dramatic. We loved it all!
DeleteHi Patricia I am not a fan of yellow but the two princess looked awesome in yellow ,I enjoyed your little talk and pics of the royals,Thankyou too for sharing more if your travels xx
ReplyDeleteHi Shez, Yellow definitely not for everyone! Today a travel agent told me not to take yellow for our next international trip! Have to say I was amused by this - good enough for Princesses. Glad you enjoyed.
DeleteWell, I’m not over your vacation trip yet! Feel free to share away.
ReplyDeleteLittle Prince Louis is a happy baby and knows how to work the public already. To me he looks like the Middleton side of his family, like older brother, George, except he has the Hanover blue eyes. Adorable!👑
Well, I could start writing about the Czech Republic and Prague...
DeleteHappy little Prince Louis - he looks like our third baby to us, very smily at an early age, with the two older ones to encourage him. Those blue eyes are so gorgeous.
Sweet Prince Louis does look a happy babe!
ReplyDeleteI can’t wear yellow but both Duchesses suit it beautifully.
I think it is a colour for brunettes rather than blondes with pale skin tones.
I stilL have my little folder with my Summer colours!
The photos from your trip have been a joy to see - what a feast of art, music, and architecture - a treat for the soul.
How is Mr C progressing?
Shane xx
Dear Shane, Yes, agree re the yellow. On blondes I think only a very pale yellow will work. Glad you are enjoying our Art and Music trip. I have just written the next but last one. I know, I am dragging it out but then I will have the blog as a record. Mr C progresses slowly, but the pain has just about settled now. However, three more weeks of non-weight bearing which is quite a trial for him. Frustrating, but we are venturing out a bit more now. All the best to you two too. xxx
