ST PATRICK'S DAY

Wishing all my readers a happy St. Patrick's Day.

We like to have a bit of celebratory fun on the day...

after all, St Patrick is the Patron saint of those named Patricia...

Mr C surprised me with a pair of sparkling Irish shamrock earrings..
sourced at Trinity College (when my back was turned) during our visit to Dublin last September..

I wore them to lunch..

and tied my shamrock scarf to my bag..

How to reciprocate?
I whipped up some shamrock cookies...

I'll see if we have some Irish Breakfast tea to have with them.

It's a good day to look at a few favourite pictures from our lovely trip to Ireland in 2016...

The oldest harp in Ireland, at Trinity College, Dublin.

Ancient ruins, full of charm..

Emerald green fields, from here to eternity...

Oh, those doors in Dublin...

and the adorable green post boxes...

and of course, our son's beautiful wedding to his Irish Lass:

Enjoy the day of the Wearing of the Green!

XXXX

Edited to add:

Just as I finished this post, a great clap of thunder heralded a most unusual storm.  It rained, but the sun shone throughout the downfall which lasted about ten minutes.  I took my camera and ran outside looking for a rainbow:

Indeed there was, and I went to a better vantage point:

A second bow appeared above the first...

The rainbow ends just where I go on my walks.
See those little white dots?
They are a flock of white cockatoos..

What a wonderful event on St Patrick's Day!

  2. Hello Patricia,
Happenstance or what. That rainbow is beautiful and always lovely to see one. I love all your beautiful items from your trip to Ireland. Lots of joy here in Ireland today. Our local parade was a big success and now time to visit and catch up with neighbours a the local.

  3. Happy St. Patrick's Day, Trish! Might you know what brought your Irish ancesters to Australia?

For years, I thought I had no Irish ancestry, but according to Ancestry.com's results, I have 6% of Irish and 72% English blood, so now I'm in this celebration too! I was rather surprised at the results, since my mother's family has always been from Germany. Now I have to have her tested! Who knows who she really is. :)

I love both your Irish shamrock earrings and the cookies, of course! Ooo, Ireland has loads of charm!

    Enjoy the holiday,

    Debbie

    1. What a good question Debra. I don't actually have a specific answer to your question about my Irish ancestry. Other family members have traced that line of the family to a particular town in the north, and the came in the mid to late 1800s, but that is all I know. Many came to Australia as they did to the USA, to forge a better life, often taking up land holdings. My other family lines are all from England so I am most definitely 3/4 English, but I look very much like the Irish great-grandmother. No doubt about it, those Irish are charmers all right!

  6. The rainbow couldn't have had better timing! Like you, I have been thinking back to my time in Ireland. It really is an enchanting place, and I hope to return some day. Your earrings are a lovely reminder of your time there, and a very thoughtful gift. :-)

    1. Was that not great timing indeed, Kristie: best rainbow ever seen here, and right on St Patrick's Day. Mr C sure surprised me with those earrings, and the fact he had managed to purchase them right under my nose and I was unawares. Furthermore, he hid them for six months and remembered to bring them out :)

  7. It's always interesting finding out one's ancestry ( my maiden name is the subject of a huge genetic study, but I'm not sure what that means for life lived now!). And for life lived now, I love the in the moment bits of the earrings, and the cookies and the wonderful rainbow. We had storms yesterday too, but nothing like the ones I believe you had.

    1. A genetic study sounds interesting, but as you say, life is lived now... It was a sweet day yesterday full of those special moments. It seems we were on the edge of some very dramatic storms, which explains why the sun was shining, and half the sky was blue. I like to think it was my special St Patrick's gift :)

  8. What a lovely post, Patricia. Do you have Irish roots? Your rainbows are spectacular too! The red cardinal has a very ditinctive green plumage on this post :)

    1. I'm only 1/4 Irish on my mother's side, but was taught by Irish nuns and took a great interest in the Emerald Isle. That was the best rainbow I have ever seen here, just perfect for the day. Got my green on indeed!

  9. Patricia, your shamrock earrings are so pretty, and how special that you get them from Dublin. Your scarf is lovely also. Oh my, those cookies looks scrumptious. I'm going to have to get some Irish Breakfast tea. It's a favorite of mine, and haven't had it in a long time. The pictures of Dublin are wonderful, thanks for sharing.

Oh, this rainbow is beautiful. And a second one above the first, how special is that? Did I ever tell you that I believe it's a gift when we see a rainbow? Thank you, Patricia, for the gift today on your blog.

    love, ~Sheri

It seems you had a wonderful day and I love the shamrock biscuits! Did you buy the biscuit cutter in Ireland too?
Your earrings are lovely and what a kind gift for an Irish lass like you!
The book with the harp on the cover looks interesting- is it a history of Ireland?
A beautiful rainbow to end a perfect day!

    1. Hello dear Shane, would you believe, I found that shamrock cutter in Ottawa a few years ago! Always grab something when you find it, I say. The little book with the harp is actually a lovely notebook, found in Dublin, just because I loved it. G has been reading a history of Ireland since we were there - and I need to borrow and read also. Still wearing my shamrock earrings.... P.xxx
