OSCARS AND AUSSIES

I don't know about the rest of you, but I found the Oscar Red Carpet gowns a bit...well... bland?

However, a Valentino Red gown is forever beautiful...
an exquisite old-world Edwardian high neck, totally elegant..

and I always love the stand-out Yellow gown, especially with a fabulous crinoline skirt..

And in the love-birds department, it is sweet to see Michael J Fox and Tracey Pollan at the Oscars.  He has put up such a brave fight with Parkinson's disease all these years..

And not forgetting, Nicole and Keith, because they are Aussies, and because she wore the prettiest of the blush colour gowns.

Our grandson Little Aussie was here for the weekend..

We took him to our local friendly bush cafe..

which even has games for boys to play..

He was thrilled with his new magicians table cloth, top hat and bunny.
He learnt the trick, and was soon producing not only a bunny, but a dinosaur, a dog, and various other creatures from the hat.

Did not mind the hearts on his cloth one bit...
I even heard him telling someone it had 'stars and Love Hearts!!'
Bless..

Cloud reflections, just because...

Have a great week

  1. I don't watch the Oscars anymore, probably because I don't watch enough movies to keep up to date! Love the gowns though ... the best part of the ceremonies. Looks like you're keeping Little Aussie entertained and vise versa! Isn't that sweet that he called them love hearts ... melts your heart I'll bet ;) Have a great day. Nice & sunny here sitting at +1C woohoo!

    1. To be honest, I don't recognize a lot of the movies or most of the stars! But I do like to check out the red carpet moments, and to see how the Australians go.
I like the sound of +1c - sounds about right to me.

  2. I'm not an Oscar watcher, but did read the article this morning about the mix-up announcing Best Picture. That cafe sounds like a wonderful place. And I'm glad Little Aussie liked his magic kit. :-)

    1. That was a bit strange about the Oscar mix-up, wasn't it. All that money spent on production, and somehow the basics go amiss. The little cafe certainly know how to keep the kids occupied - some of the games were brand new, others pre-loved, all very suitable. We like the little chocolate milk bottle for kids too.

  3. Trish, we are so on the same page in how we saw the Academy Award dresses! Looks like we settled on the same ones. So it isn't just me this year who was underwhelmed. I would love to go back to a time when the actors bought their own dresses -- without a stylist or a designer providing them.

I love the black cloth with stars and hearts too! Also love your nature photos as always!!

    1. Great minds think alike! Today at the local mall I noticed a lot of red lace had appeared in the dress shops, including a short version of the Valentino. So quick to react. So true about back in the day, when I think their own style came through.

  4. I didn't watch the Oscars this year but I do some years. The red carpet is probably my favorite part. Little Aussie's magic kit looks like fun! My kids are very interested in magic, especially the kind that involves "reading minds." :)

    1. I never manage to watch the whole Oscar show, just record some of it, and try to catch it later! Even the TV got confused and I had half of the red carpet and half of the awards. It is so much fun to teach kids about magic, although Aussie is not up to the reading minds stage quite yet. I think it could be a way to teach children that all in life is not necessarily what it appears.

  5. Hello Patricia,
I am looking forward to watching the Academy Awards tonight. Like you, I like to see the fashion. How fun it must have been to have your grandson visiting. Love the cloud reflections. Have a great week

    1. Hello Helen, hope you enjoyed the Academy Awards. Some of the new fashions disappoint (very unladylike) but thank goodness for some classic looks. I thought Meryl Streep looked beautiful.

  6. Thank you Patricia for the picture of Michael J Fox. It is so good to see him fighting this terrible disease. My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's a few months ago and seeing pictures of Michael just helps so much. I would have missed that one so thank you. I love that your little grandson loves magic....who doesn't! It seems to me we all need a bit of magic in these strange times. Cheers Lindsey Baack

    1. So sorry to hear your husband has Parkinson's, which is so insidious. Some members of our family have had it too. To be honest I imagined Michael J Fox would be out of social circulation by now so was really impressed to see this photo. A bit of magic works wonders!

    1. Oh yes, that's right, I forgot MJF was Canadian for a minute. He is amazing and I think Tracey is too. We used to love watching him in Family Ties, and the Back to the Future movies. Cheers to you too!

  8. I have to admit to watching very little television, so have no idea what people wore to the Oscars. I prefer the stars and Love Hearts! Much more real...

    1. I cheated a bit Sarah Liz, as I don't have that much TV watching time. I recorded part of the proceedings then speed watched on fast forward, also a bit of internet searching did the trick. Real time with the Little Aussie was certainly fun, and we might move on to card tricks next time.

  9. The only thing I saw about the Oscars was the mix up in the prize giving on the news.
So pleased that Little Aussie learnt the hat trick from his Gran - you both must have had fun.

    1. I only watched bits and pieces, it is too long and tedious for me too. When I saw the mix up on the news, I thought at first it might have been deliberate to take the focus away from politics. We are having fun with the magic tricks - and it gets him away from Pokemon for a while :)

  10. There is a show here called Fashion Police. Not sure if you get it there, but I watched it last night, and it showed the many dresses people wore at the Oscars. None of them really spoke to me this year, but I always think Nicole Kidman is a beauty in whatever she wears. I love that blue dress on Tracey Pollan. It's nice that you got to spend time with little Aussie over the weekend. That is such a cool picture of the clouds' reflection on the building.

Oh, I love those lorikeets in your area, Patricia. Have a lovely week.

    1. Hi Sheri, I just finished watching the Fashion Police Oscar episode, and it is always a bit of fun. I was pleased Guiliana liked Nicole's look and gown. The lorikeets keep me amused - could not resist finding gowns to match their vivid colours!

  12. I didn't see much of the Oscars this year apart from the best picture mix up!
Poor Warren looked very confused poor man.
Our NZTV news host Mike Hosking highlighted Nicole's Armani gown as the best of the night and I have to agree!
Althoug I had reservations about the fabric colour and her skin tone being too alike - still a beautiful gown!
Oh what fun you had with Little Aussie - little boys all seem to love playing magicians!
    Precious times for you both.💕

    1. Oh, yes, poor Warren - I began to wonder if we had
      confused old guy syndrome :)
Yay for Nicole's Armani - I like it better every day. Very subtle, and very beautiful.
Little Aussie asked me to find about about levitation!!!

  13. There certainly is an uneasiness, isn't there, Val. I still wonder if the blunder was all a set up to take the heat off the political agenda. Better frocks next year!

  14. Can I just say, that is one adorable bunny that came out of that hat!
I also loved the bright red gown and Nicole Kidman's blush gown. I haven't seen that movie, "Lion" yet but I think I would like to, it looks good.
Love the reflection of the clouds in the building.
