ART AND AUSTRALIA DAY

Happy Australia Day to all Australians as we celebrate this week.

I have been on a long break from the Art Gallery...
but here is a peek at some very special porcelain on display these days:

By an unknown artist in 19th century China,
I love this exquisite porcelain 'Bowl with Goldfish'...

Fun to find a ladybug in your teacup!

Trio: (the golden canary) c. 1760, Dr Wall (Worcester), James Giles, Decorator.

Ewer (yuto) Japan, 15th-16th century (Muromachi period), artist unknown.

Mr Cardinal took this great picture of tiny Japanese Netsuke.

In an attempt to cheat the heat, we celebrated Australia Day with the neighbours, at our Annual Street Party, after sundown.

Barbeques on the lawn,

Salad table on the street..

and card tables in parking bays.
A good thing we live in a very quiet cul-de-sac...

I thought about wearing my Wattle Brooch...
(copy of the one presented to the Queen by Australia back in the day)
sourced from the Buckingham Palace gift shop on our way to Ireland in 2016...

but that seemed excessive.....

Do you like fine porcelain too?
Tell me what you love...

Have a beautiful weekend

  1. Happy Australia Day. And I do love porcelain - what a gorgeous little detail the ladybird is - such a nice thought, you would smile each time you looked at it. And there is nothing wrong with that, is there?

    1. Absolutely not! I loved the whimsy as well as the skill in these pieces. The goldfish would charm me at the bottom on my soup, as would he cute ladybird in the teacup.

  2. What a good idea to celebrate at sundown - glad you enjoyed a happy Australia Day.
I grew up always knowing about fine china - handpainted Royal Crown Derby porcelain was an important source of wealth in our town. Needless to say my grandparents and my parents all owned many pieces of it.

    1. Royal Crown Derby is gorgeous, and how lovely to have it around you. I loved my mother's Shelley pink floral honeypot, perhaps the first fine china which awakened my awareness. I treasure the pieces I have inherited.

  3. This post was like being at the British Museum again!
I really love that goldfish bowl too, I would really like to have that one and hold it and look at it.
    Does that make sense?
I think you should wear that Wattle Broach anytime you want to, honestly...life is too short not to enjoy the things you love!
Happy Australia Day! (Might be a day late, sorry.)

  4. Happy Australia Day Patricia! Celebrating in the evening was a brilliant plan. The brooch is wonderful, and I'm sure is a very nice reminder of your time in London (and Ireland!) last year. I think it would have been the perfect thing to wear to the celebration. Perhaps next year...

    1. OK, next year I should put on a yellow top, and put on my crazy/brave mode and wear that big sparkly brooch! We all love our barbeque at night in the street, so soothing after the heat of the day.

    1. There is always lots to see at QAG and GOMA - the porcelain is in the International Galleries of QAG. I hope you enjoy going to see it. I would probably die of shock if somebody spotted the Red Cardinal!

  7. A little bit late, but Happy Australia Day, Patricia! Your white swan looks so pretty on your table, and what a unique table that is. Love the design of it. The blue tea cup with the lady bug is pretty. I think it's a special sign when we see the lady bug. Your annual street party sounds wonderful with lots of good food and company!

To answer your question....I love pretty Victorian tea cups. And Yes, I love porcelain figurines. I've been looking around for them - they are the sweetest things.

    1. Thank you Sheri, and white swan sends its regards. I love our white lacy table on the deck - I will want to keep it forever! Yes, I hear there are certain sweet beliefs about a lady bug, and they are much nicer than your average insect, don't bite and very chic in their spots.
Victorian tea cups are beautiful and I have quite a collection myself. Twins!

  10. What a beautiful wattle brooch. And something so nice at this cold wintry time of year here, to think of salad in the street.

    1. Salad in the street is the only way to go here at the moment. At least it is quick to prepare dinner - which salad shall we have tonight?

  11. We had our Auckland Anniversary Day on the same day!
We rang our son who lives in the country in Victoria and he was sweltering!
We had a perfect day about 27 and a gentle breeze - he was envious!

What a beautiful hibiscus flower - is it from your garden Patricia? The perfect flower for Queensland.
I have a penchant for fine china - some pieces are works of art. There are some exquisite pieces in this collection.
    Hope you're both well.
    Love

    1. I never knew that - kindred spirits on 26 January! Oh how I would love a day of 27, which is the perfect day, absolutely Shane. Yes that hibiscus and several others grow in our garden, along the side of the house, total neglect is the answer. Hope you both are well too, love P. xox

And I love pretty china and porcelain. I'm not good at knowing a lot of the names and makers - but I'm always admiring sets in antique stores when my Hubby and I like to browse.

Happy February dear sweet Trish! xoxo
