BASTILLE DAY AND OTHER NEWS

Bonjour!
Today I dug out my Moulin Rouge scarf (Paris, tourist outlet, 2004)..

and my Paris tote (2008)...

called into the bakery for these,

plus an escargot...

and went to meet my latest grand-nephew:

Baby H, 10 days old, slept peacefully throughout our visit.
There really is nothing as sweet as a brand-new babe.
Welcome to the world, Baby boy.

In other small-fry news, I made these shorts for the Little Bebe in Canada,

and these Batman shorts for his Big Brother, who is heavily into Superheros these days.
They are going to Cape Cod for a summer holiday in August.
Lucky Ducks...

And I did eventually finish the Faux Fur jacket, just in time for the latest round of freezing cold Winter nights.
Which is why my hands are in the pockets.
No, your spectacles are not fogged, there is a blur in the centre of the photo.
The camera is going off for repairs this week, prior to our trip OS.

On Sunday we took my Dad for a picnic in the sunshine...

out in the country he loves so much.

We usually end up discussing cows..

how there used to be lots of small dairies, and now there are only a few large holdings..

Dad will be 94 in a few months, and these days he is not sure who I am.
He asks my name.
But he still knows about land and farming.

We enjoyed seeing this loved up pair of galahs.
These pretty birds, also known as rose-breasted Cockatoo, are found all over Australia.  The term galah is derived from gilaa, a word found in Yuwaalaraay and other Aboriginal languages.

They are not shy, and were there for ages, despite our talking and taking many photos of them.

Galahs are easily tamed.
Mr C had one as a pet in a large cage when he was a child.

Our friend and business associate G gave us a beautiful potted gerbera.
I hope it doesn't die in the Garden of Neglect while we are on hols.

It is a gorgeous glowing orange.

Bonsoir, and have a good week.

xxxx

    1. Isn't he the little cutie then?! Time to start on the many small items which need attention before travel. Sometimes blogging helps to sort my mind and prioritise things.

  2. Well done finishing your coat in time for the cold weather! And your grandsons are going to love their new shorts. I'm sorry your dad doesn't always know you. Patricia. I can't imagine how painful that must be.

    1. Thanks Kristie, the coat is fun. And thank you for the comment about Dad; it is not so bad really, because it has been gradual. We look for the positives, and he still knows many things. Hope those shorts arrive in Ottawa in time :)

    1. Hi Suzy, my sewing is a fun hobby, but best not look too closely at the inside of that jacket ....
      Hugs to you too xx

  4. Always enjoy seeing what you've been up to. The ride in the country with the view of the cows looks so peaceful. Your sewing, as usual, looks so professional. I'm sure the little guys will like their shorts and you will no doubt get lots of use out of that elegant jacket.

    1. Thanks Darla, I like the country in winter. That area is particularly cold, and occasionally has snow. All the grass is a pale cream colour from the frosts, and the sky is clear and a brilliant blue. My sewing is far from professional, but as long as it looks good on the outside I'm happy. Had a bit of trouble fitting the lining into the coat, but only I see that bit.

  5. Great sewing projects. Oh, those bakery items look delicious. It's heartbreaking to see the old ones starting to go downhill. But it's so nice that you can still take him on the outings that he seems to enjoy so much.

    1. Thank you Sanda, I am pleased with the shorts, (and the coat!) It is nice to take Dad out into the country, and we enjoy it too. I think he is in a better situation than those who have lost mobility and are confined to their rooms. He uses a walking frame, but manages to shuffle along short distances, which enables us to take him out, not just in the car but for coffee as well. I do wonder how much time he has left, though.

    2. Hi Linda, glad you like the jacket. Our daughter married a Canadian and lives in Ottawa with their two little boys. The new baby is their second cousin. Once we have seen Europe, the only place I want to travel is over there to hug those grandsons! Cheers..

  7. Patricia,
Your fur coat looks so nice on you, and I'm glad you showed it to us after you finished sewing it. Those rose Cockatoos are so pretty, and I would be thrilled if I saw them around here, as I love to take pictures of birds. It's nice that you took your dad on a picnic out in the country. That's funny that he still talks about farming at 94. Your grand-nephew is precious. I love your Paris tote, and those goodies from the bakery look so yummy. I think I enjoyed everything about this post today, Patricia.

    It was a delightful post.

    love,
    ~Sheri

    1. Sheri, thank you - I feel a bit shy about the coat, but it is fun. Some weeks I have nothing to say, then suddenly a lot happens and I have lots of photos to share. I have always loved those pink and grey birds, which go about in large flocks. Beautiful! Dad remembers best what he knew as a child, and he grew up on a farm although he left it in his 20s. Glad you enjoyed the post! xx

There is a clue in the shorts to the name of one of our grandsons. Can you work it out?

    1. Amazing how, after a very hot June, we now have record cold. Weird climate change?

  10. Sorry to be so late to your lovely round-up post for the Fete Nationale, Patricia. You're opbviously getting into the mood for your forthcoming holiday and I know you're going to have such a wonderful time. I'm glad your Dad enjoys his days out and can still remember the work that meant so much to him. Names aren't important. What matters is that you love each other.

    1. Thank you Perpetua, fortunately it doesn't actually bother me that Dad doesn't remember any of our names. He knows us collectively as 'family', and that is good enough. It is even slightly amusing that he doesn't seem to know which are his own children and which are their partners.
