At last our roses have risen to the challenge, accepted the blessing of frequent showers,
and decided to Bloom ...
Hello, Yellow Rose - it's been a long time!
Naturally, I was attracted to this fabric the other day.
I think it will be a winner made up in McCalls 6278 with plain navy inserts...
and, if the dress is a success, it will win a prize trip to Canada,
and attendance at a very important event:
The Christening of the Little Bebe, our latest grandson...
He has grown a bit now, but here's a reminder of him as a newborn.
Pondering on a special gift for him, I thought I'd show something I have preserved all my life, and which was a curious gift at my own Christening as a newborn:
A white china beaker, handpainted by the giver with my name and,
wait for it ....
A coq, a rooster, the French Emblem, and his meek little hen.
This one's for you, Silver Bunny!!
No wonder I have loved French culture all my life!
Only a few hours until the Oscars...
Enjoy yourselves, Aussie contenders Hugh Jackman and Jackie Weaver -
I'm cheering for you!
Have a fun week ..
XXXX
A perfect sentimental gift to take! Glad your garden is enjoying all these current showers, with the splashes of sun. Had to pull the old mower out today inbetween downpours....fingers crossed for our Aussie contenders...J
ReplyDeleteHi Judith, yes, about time the roses made an effort. I love the Oscars; can't wait for tomorrow!
DeleteYour roses are lovely, the longer awaited the more appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI can sense the excitement mounting at your forthcoming visit to Canada.
The little hand painted beaker is lovely, especially knowing that it was painted just for you.
Christening gifts are a difficult thing to decide on, but I am sure you will come up with something as special as your little beaker and hopefully show us when you do.
Thank you Rosemary, no doubt I will bang on about Canada until everyone just wishes I would go!
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the beaker, which is quite unique and of course that is why it is still with me.
Glad your garden is literally Coming Up Roses! That material is so pretty,I'm sure the dress will be lovely and leap at the chance of a trip to Canada.
ReplyDeleteI love the material, Sulky, but the dress is warned: shape up or miss out!
DeleteYour roses are happy roses now!
ReplyDeleteI suspect, that you´ll make it in a short time, as it is a potential dress for you to wear at the Christening.
So hoping, that the time will come soon!
Hi Mette, so true, very happy roses in our garden. Quite a few weeks yet until it is Spingtime in Ottawa, and we will be off. I think the climate might be very similar to yours in Finland.
DeleteWhat lovely roses - do they take a lot of work in your climate? I like that material a lot. Have not seen that pattern made up yet, but am intrigued by it. The contrast sides could be quite slimming.
ReplyDeleteI love your cup and the fact that it is hand painted makes it so special.
Roses do not really like our climate, and the experts need to work very hard to achieve good results. Because we are basically pretty lazy, we accept small stunted bushes and a few blooms when possible. And we love what we have! Going to get that pattern out this afternoon and have a good look at those side sections, compare with basic pattern, etc. then Go For It!
DeleteThere is no flower like a rose and yours are so beautiful! Such a beautiful baby boy and I know how exciting it is to plan the trip north. Your christening gift is perfect. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHi Sanda, so true, you can't beat a rose for beauty. He is a beautiful baby boy, and stares solemnly at us via the Skype camera :) Let's hope he likes us when we get there...
DeleteBeautiful roses. Isn't if fun to be able to pick a bouquet from your own garden? Your childhood treasure is lovely. How great that you managed to keep it. And grandchildren? I never tire of hearing about them.
ReplyDeleteDarla
Roses and babies, both beautiful and sweet. The little cup is the only thing I have from early childhood, so of course it will always be treasured.
DeleteSuch lovely roses - a real lift to the spirits in our cold, grey weather. Your christening beaker is so sweet and I'm sure you'll find something equally special for your darling grandson. To quote my Lancashire grandmother, in that dress you'll be a real bobby dazzler. :-)
ReplyDeleteHa, I haven't heard the term bobby dazzler for a very long time! Maybe my parents said it. So funny, and I don't really understand the reference - is the bobby a policeman? Cold grey weather and floods here today - thank goodness for a few blooms to lift the spirits.
DeleteNeither have I, Patricia, but it seemed just right here. :-) As far as I can find out a bobby is either a policeman or just a man. It was a common expression in my Lancashire childhood.
DeleteDear Patricia
DeleteWonderful roses - you will be enjoying their lovely blooms!
My garden is now looking quite sad - we haven't had rain at all for so long although there was a tiny sprinkle for about 15 minutes this morning.
The Iceberg roses still have flowers and buds, I've also got lavender, Queen Anne's Lace and enough Alchemilla mollis flowers to make a wee posy to take to a friend - that's all I need!
Love the Le Coq mug!
Shane ♥
Sounds like you have a very pretty garden, Shane. Glad you like Le Coq! He is having a little fame late in life :)xx
DeleteWhat a pretty mug! Where in Canada are you heading?
ReplyDeleteWe are heading to Ottawa, flying into Montreal. My fourth trip to Canada, but still very exciting. Glad you like the old mug!
DeleteSuch beautiful roses and I adore the beaker. How lovely to be off to Canada, especially to go visit such a sweetie! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzy, the beaker would fit well into your beautiful country world. I can't wait to cuddle that baby boy! xx
