THE OSCARS AND UPDATE ON THE CARDINAL NEST

Hello

I don't know where I've been lately, but perhaps moving house in my dotage has been rather more taxing than I had anticipated.

We are working hard at integrating into our new community, doing unexpected house repairs, and keeping up our usual commitments.

We have introduced five new roses into our flowerless garden, and I love them all.  The soil here is completely different although we only moved 8km, and it seems the roses love it as long as they get Lots of Water..

We have been to a couple of Queensland Symphony concerts, last night to hear/see Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E Minor and Mahler Symphony No. 5....Wonderful!

And I have joined a local choir.  Long-term readers of the blog might remember that I sang with a choir of Ladies of a Certain Age (in fact, two choirs back then).  These all disbanded in the Covid era and I am happy to report a new mixed choir has begun rehearsing just a five minute walk from our house.  While I have continued to sing with my church choir, my voice has become very rusty but I am doing vocalising exercises whenever I remember and things are improving.  We have a few local 'gigs' coming up soon.

I have found a new doctor at a local Medical Centre, and we are catching up on a lot of routine checks which did not happen last year during the relocation time.

It was a relief that all my blood tests came up fine.  Not so nice was I have had a low grade cancer burnt off my leg.  All those daily walks wearing shorts make this a real hazard in this climate.  I am now trying to accustom myself to wearing long pants to walk.

In other news, I finally sold my two enormous chandeliers which I brought from our previous high-ceilinged heritage house, only to find they were too big for the downsize house.
We then found a pretty new (smaller) one for our entrance hall:

The electrician said there were 78 strands of crystal glory!

It has considerable sparkle power, and I love it...

This little love seat lost a leg during the move, but it has now been fixed by a generous friend.  Now it will be recovered some time soon.

You all know I love a pink rose, and guess my favourite Oscar dress:

Anne Hathaway, looking wonderful...

and a close second, our own Rose Byrne.  Both ladies are incredibly chic..

Because pink, naturally...

Our own Nicole Kidman never fails to wear something stylish and new..

Pink with red can be stunning...

Excellent drama here..

Another beautiful green gown...

I like the green, but is it a pair of sleeves, a coat, a wrap, whatever.
Nice fabric and worn with panache..

A fairytale finish.  Every little girls want a dress like this, including my tiny granddaughter (who is about to turn Four!).

Hope you are all well, and I hope to be back soon.

XXXX

  1. Patricia, your new chandelier is so pretty, love that one. It's nice that your love seat was fixed by a friend. We always appreciate that piece of furniture that we've had for so long.
Your planted roses are wonderful, and this soft pink color is so lovely. You know I love pink roses as well. The Oscar dresses! - I'm thankful I get to see them when you share them with us. I think your favorite is my favorite too; that is really stylish. I also like Nicole's dress, it's unique. Your granddaughter will be four! Oh, how they grow up fast. I'm so sorry to hear about your leg, Patricia, and I am whispering a prayer for you now. Wow, five new rose bushes in your garden! How wonderful it must be to see all the different shades. How fun to be singing in the choir again. I wish you blessed March days, Patricia. So good to see a post from you again. : )

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. It is always fun to post once you get started. Every night the chandelier goes on, at least for a while. It really lifts my spirits. Thank you for your whisper - it is confronting when these little things happen. Blessings to you.

  2. Lovely post, Patricia! So happy you got to attend concerts and you have joined a choir! I know you love and appreciate music so much! Really love that light fixture, it is gorgeous! Very happy you showed us the fashions you liked at the Oscars! There were some odd dresses. There was one dress, it was a black dress but I misplaced a white fluffy bath rug, and I think that lady found it, folded it over and stuffed it down the front of that dress! Bizarre! LOL! Keep watering those roses and cover up that skin. Take care. xx

    1. Off to choir again tonight; always nice to sing and raise the spirits. I missed the dress with the white fluffy thing - how crazy is that! There were lots of weird things but I choose to ignore them (because I can, lol). Luckily, our weather has cooled down a bit so long pants are not so bad at this stage. Thanks for dropping by Kay. xx

  5. Why was the garden flowerless in Qld? Flooding that ruined whatever had been planted? Anyhow the roses will look terrific, once they are fully grown.

    1. It is a strange thing, but the previous owners had a garden landscaped here which is nearly all Desert grasses, some bamboo, and a few succulents, some extremely big. We are interspersing little floral ground covers among the grasses, as well as planting roses and herbs.

  6. I love your lights and Oscar dress favorites, Trish. You and I are sparkle lovers: diamonds, crystals, and rhinestones always catch our eye! I read somewhere that the same is true of wild turkeys, who will circle a car because of the shine. I thought, oh no, I no different than a turkey!:)

    1. Ha ha, I love this Debra. Guess I am a turkey too, lol. Friends laugh at me re the chandeliers, and a few are coming next week to see the garden, and, I suspect, to gaze upon the crystal wonder that is my new chandelier. Actually, we used to see wild turkeys all the time at our previous house, but alas, in a more urban setting now I have not seen another one. However, we do have Apostle birds, and they are quite mad and interesting.

  7. Hello dearest Trish! So wonderful to see an update. Your roses are just stunning!! It's understandable you've been a busy bee. How wonderful you're offering your vocal talents with a local choir. Love that!! It sounds like so much fun. I enjoyed the oscars too and your top 2 were my top 2 favorites as well! Although, I think I like Rose's just a little more than Anne's. Lol Matt had cancer taken off his leg too. We all have to be so careful these day. I LOVE the sparkle of your chandelier!! Blessings on the week ahead and almost Easter time! 💗💚

    1. Hi dear Carrie. I love that you were also taken with those two gowns. So elegant and floral, they could be twins. Good luck to Matt and hope we both heal up OK. I am surprised to hear he got one so far away from the Equator (Qld, is the skin cancer capital of the world, Alas!). Blessings to you for Easter, a wonderful feast. xxxx

  8. It's lovely to see you back again, Trish, and I'm glad you're settling in so well. How lovely to be singing with a choir again. That must be good for your vocal chords. I'm sorry to hear about the cancer on your leg. I'm about to have something similar for one on my face. All those years in the South African sun, followed by a lot of time outside on the boat! Hope to see you soon!

    1. Thank you Val. Sorry to read you have a cancer on your face; the South African sun is probably very similar to ours. In fact, many South African ex-pats live in our neighbourhood, apparently because it reminds them of home. I have had them on my fact too, and wish you well for a good result.

  9. Patricia, the birds on my post are called Eurasian Collared Doves. They look very much like the Mourning Dove, and are related to them. I see them all over my neighborhood, and it's such a delight when they visit my lawn. ; )

    1. Oh they are doves. They look so delicate and sweet, and how lovely to see them on your lawn. Thank you Sheri.

  10. Settling into a new home takes more time than we think. Your new chandelier is so pretty. I do love sparkly things!
The Oscar fashion was fun to see here as I haven't looked for it anywhere. The fairy tale finish dress would be one my little granddaughters (5 and 6) would also love.
    Easter blessings to you.

  11. Hello Patricia, I just popped over from Diane's blog and have enjoyed yours very much. I like your new chandelier. Lovely when it sparkles and sends all those lovely shadows across the ceiling. Glad you got your medical issues taken care of. I didn't watch the Oscars because we gave up our TV two years ago. We have enough taken care of on streaming. Wasn't able to see the Oscars live though, but did look at the fashions on YouTube. Coincidentally, Anne Hathaway's dress was my favorite too. Happy Easter!
