I imagine Australia to be so bright & sunny, not at all what is depicted in those two paintings.Katharine Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12272802201564787548noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1579555037165364084.post-44010128982709272252015-09-07T23:29:56.857-07:002015-09-07T23:29:56.857-07:00Hi Debra, I had to Google this one - Melbourne is ...Hi Debra, I had to Google this one - Melbourne is 1118 miles from Brisbane. It was a bit over 2 hours flying time. We were only there for 3 days, just long enough to see some art, and visit my cousin. Yes, those paintings do look both German and of the period you mention. Both artists were influenced by Modernism and were aware of art movements in Europe.Patriciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11685403215601517267noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1579555037165364084.post-67082857917246305302015-09-07T17:54:56.510-07:002015-09-07T17:54:56.510-07:00Tricia, please teach me a little geography. The period looks a little like the German art that was popular in the 20s and 30s. Even in the 'swinging' 60s when I started work, we wore little white gloves in the street, every day :) I hope you enjoy Cossington Smith's more colourful paintings, which convey the sunniness of Australia. This early work does look mannish, doesn't it.

Patriciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11685403215601517267noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1579555037165364084.post-52103116177040840042015-09-04T10:03:50.052-07:002015-09-04T10:03:50.052-07:00Thanks for taking us along...great pictures, and l...Thanks for taking us along...great pictures, and love the rabbits.Linda Kayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17237332954767037400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1579555037165364084.post-26434911683457441822015-09-04T07:29:25.935-07:002015-09-04T07:29:25.935-07:00Thank you for showing us some Australian art and a...Thank you for showing us some Australian art and a glimpse on Melbourne.
Very interesting for bloggers on the other side of the world.Janneke https://www.blogger.com/profile/11056916431881916066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1579555037165364084.post-51457623162943646492015-09-04T01:39:15.675-07:002015-09-04T01:39:15.675-07:00Dear Patricia - Brack's paintings do portray a...Dear Patricia - Brack's paintings do portray a strong moment in time - you mention conformity with everyone looking the same but that is how it was in the 1950s, people did not step out of their allotted boxes - most conformed.
I am intrigued by Grace Cossington Smith's painting of 'Crowd' which draws you in amongst all of the people - for some reason I would have guessed that it had been painted by a man.
I am now going to explore her more.Rosemaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03814070177137076757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1579555037165364084.post-59661428406174183622015-09-03T21:31:01.472-07:002015-09-03T21:31:01.472-07:00Wow, that is unusual about the hare.
