SWAN LAKE

Hello.
It has been raining here for several days, always good for the garden, and I love the cooler days of early Winter.

Winter season means ballet and opera seasons...

Remember my pink silk coat I wore to our son's wedding in Ireland last year?
I wore it over black pants and top to see the Qld Ballet's 'Swan Lake'...

and carried this vintage bag which belonged to my mother.
A perfect match..

No matter how often one sees 'Swan Lake', a good production is a wonderful experience. The Queensland Ballet under Artistic Director Li Cunxin,  and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky's exquisite score -
a combination made in the stars.

Costumes and sets were Perfection..

I popped into the Garden Centre to buy my sister a rose bush, and somehow this pot came home for me.
The parrot most definitely approves...

Miss Markle went to England to watch Prince Harry play polo.
A royal wedding coming up???
One of the first public appearances of previous royal brides has been the polo field.
What do you all think?

And speaking of magical moments, here are a few pictures of a sweet installation currently in the foyer of GoMA.
By the artist Pip & Pop, Rainbow bridge is a creation of miniature environments inspired by stories of paradise, fantasy lands, creation myths, and Buddhist ideas of the universe.  'The Land of Cockaigne' which first appeared in French 13C poetry was a mythical land of plenty: houses made of cake and sugar, pastry pavements, and so on.

Children particularly love the four glittering scenes dotted with tiny artificial flowers, woodland creatures, sequins and crystals - even a bird wearing a golden crown...

Mr Cardinal is having knee replacement surgery next week.
Fingers and toes crossed for a good outcome and a quick recovery.

It will make life much more comfortable for him...

especially when travelling - to Canada for Christmas,

and a European cruise in 2018.

We have plans!

  1. Love going to the ballet it always feels like a very special occasion and you looked very smart for it dressed in pink and black.
Good luck to Mr. Cardinal - isn't wonderful what modern surgery can do today?

    1. Thank you Rosemary. Modern surgery improves all the time; he was told a few years ago to postpone as long as possible because the knee can only be done once. Now it seems repeats are done, and there is no need to wait - and in fact he is in a lot of pain so it is very much the way forward for us. So true re the ballet, a nice dress-up occasion, unlike many other theatrical events.

Good luck to Mr. Cardinal, I hope his recovery is very quick. My mother-in-law had a knee replacement and she healed very fast, it was quite surprising actually. Canada for Christmas! Will you be on the west coast? xx

    1. A ballet pink coat had to go to the ballet...
So pleased to read your MIL healed fast, very encouraging. He is average weight and does a bit of exercise so should be able to do his rehabilitation correctly. We go to Ottawa for Christmas where our daughter and grandsons live. Can't wait, and hope it snows :)

  5. Patricia, your mother's vintage bag is so charming, and do you know what? I have one just like it that belonged to my mom, only there are no roses on it, only black. It's very special to me. I love your pink silk coat, it's lovely. Have never seen Swan Lake - it sounds like a nice production. The rainbow bridge art work is delightful.

Enjoy your rain, Patricia. It's Spring here, and getting warmer every day. The summers are hot in California.

    love, ~Sheri

    1. Ah, how sweet that your mother had a similar bag - Twins! You must see Swan Lake one day - it is the Queen of the Ballets. Enjoy the spring - I think California gets as hot as it does in Queensland!

  6. Black with that lovely pink coat would be divine!
Your new pot is perfect in every way...I love green...it just happens to be my favourite colour. I have never been to the Swan Lake ballet...The Nutcracker at Christmas and a few others but never this iconic ballet...I trust it was enjoyable.
    Speedy recovery to your hubby.
    Xmas in Canada...whoo hoo!

    1. Thank you Hostess, I was thrilled with the way the coat translated to an evening outfit, and another woman actually came up and complimented me about it!
Swan Lake is the epitome of ballet, to me. By the end I start to believe I really am looking at swans in the moonlight.. Yay, Canada Christmas!!

  7. Ooo, love the thought of your future travels, Trish! Worth a knee surgery.;) I know someone who had two knee surgeries (a couple of years apart). They were a complete success! The doctors know what they are doing in the knee area these days. (A quick recovery, Mr. C!)

A lovely vase, no wonder it had to come home with you. Lots of pretties as usual. Trish I adore your silk coat, the vintage purse ... of course!

Thanks once again for the eye candy!!

    1. So reassuring to hear of good outcomes for the knees. There is a certain anxiety about these events.
Silk coat says Hi, and of course I can't live without a good dose of pretties in my life!

  8. What a lovely post, full of good things! Your pink coat is so elegant! How well it goes with the bag. I'd have liked to see the art show - quite fascinating. You can never be sure that a show won't turn up somewhere else - the name Pip and Pop is certainly not easy for forget. I'd love that pot on my balcony. I hope Mr. Cardinal's surgery goes well and he is sprinting around soon! :)

  9. Ah, good news about the pink. Best to be at the forefront with the latest pink :) Li Cunxin has a magical effect on the Qld Ballet, and I enjoy every performance. You will have to come to Brisbane for a weekend at the ballet!

  11. Best wishes for the knee surgery - it really is a quality of life thing. Looks as though you have lots of enjoyable activities planned for winter and for next year. You are so lucky being in a place with some culture!

    1. Yes indeed, very much quality of life. He probably left it a bit too long, and the past six months have been quite difficult. I gave up planning trips to the theatre as the walking was too painful. Ballet was with a girlfriend. Looking forward to lots of culture when the knee is mended!
