FOGGY DAYS AND A RETURN TO THE NEST

We have had some amazing foggy mornings this week....
followed by sunny, crystal clear, and quite warm days.

Tomorrow, 1st June, is our first official day of Winter -
I for one can't wait to wear jeans, tights, boots, and scarves ...
 for a precious few months.

Mr C was finally discharged from the hospital, on the 15th day after his knee replacement.  I would like to think I dropped bit of weight walking the corridors to visit him each day....

He is doing well, can walk a couple of steps, carefully, with crutches.
It is a very painful surgery, and rest, elevation, icepacks, and pain medication are the order of the day.
Along with a lot of prescribed exercises, and numerous visits to the therapists each week for the foreseeable future.

Happily, it should all be worthwhile, and we are looking forward to a much more pain-free travel to Canada for Christmas.

Little Aussie came, and visited his PaPa..

I taught him to make red jelly, and we concocted some good desserts...

He enjoyed our visit to the GoMA on the opening day of
Marvel: Creating the Cinematic Universe

The exhibition features original comic books, spectacular concept art, props and costumes, over 500 objects relating to Marvel movie characters Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow and others.

To tell the truth, I had never heard of Marvel, or seen any of these movies...
but visual art it is, and I have been learning my Superheros and watching a few of the films.  I did enjoy Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, and having seen some costumes from Thor, I want to see it also.

The exhibition looks behind the scenes, showing us a bit about production, storyboarding, prop and costume designers, and visual effects.  There are fun interactive elements:

Little Aussie meets Groot and Raccoon..

and creates his own Super-hero character..

Aussie had a great day...
(and his Dad and I enjoyed it too).

We will take Mr C when he gets mobile once again.

I made a shirt from this Liberty fabric sourced in London last year.
I think we will be very happy together..
Mr C took this picture from his hospital bed!

I loved the coffee cups, in several colour-ways, at the Hospital Cafe.
So cheerful, when many customers are facing difficult times..

I hope you are having a great week,
stay warm, or enjoy the Springtime, wherever you are.

XXXXX

  2. I'm glad the knee replacement went well. That was a long stay in the hospital. Your husband must be very happy to be back home again. I love your shirt! I have yet to sew with Liberty fabric, but am hoping to pick some up when I go to England in September.

    1. Thank you Kristie. A long stay but was definitely a good plan, as recovery is very slow and tedious. We are managing without a wheelchair at home. There is a great shop in Old Brompton Road, South Kensington, in London, which sells rooms of lovely Liberty and similar fabrics, at excellent (read lower) prices. I just can't remember its name - help, anyone??

  3. I love Liberty patterns and had a shirt that I actually wore so much that the elbows ended up wearing out !
Hope your husband is more comfortable at home and that his knee mends soon...I have a friend who underwent the same procedure and she says that her knee is as good as new!

    1. Oh yes, Liberty last forever, and it is so fine and soft to wear. I wore out a shirt that way too, back in the day. I expect my new shirt will have a long life also.
We also have friends who had great results with their knees, so Fingers Crossed :)

  4. Delighted to learn that Mr. C is now home again, and making good progress - you both must be relieved to have it all done and dusted.
Love your shirt in the Liberty print - you look really nice in it too.

    1. Thank you Rosemary, I think he is delighted to be home too - 15 days without going out into the fresh air was a long time for somebody who lives with a large garden.
And thank you for your kind comment, I love my Liberty too.

  5. Oh your shirt is lovely, such gorgeous colours. I am glad Mr C is making good progress as you say one of the most painful operations to endure but the results are magnificent. It gave my Mum a huge new lease of life. She and Dad used to cycle on a tandem over 100 miles each weekend from London down to the coast before the war took away their lives...hence the need for 2 new knees later in life!

    1. Ah we are hoping for a new lease of life too. Fingers crossed! My, that was a lot of cycling, amazing what some people can do. These days they are all doing marathons around here.

  6. I am glad your husband is doing well - yes, it is very painful surgery, I am not sure if many people realise that. But of course, quality of life and pain issues are the reason one has a knee replacement. Keep him on the rehab track, I am sure that now he is at home he will feel happier and more motivated. Keep your spirits up too.

    1. So far, we are pleased with the result Sarah Liz. When I see him actually walking unaided, it will be a great relief and that is when we can gauge the success. Might be a while yet though. Knee and hip replacement is quite an industry at the Wesley hospital, which shows how many 'seniors' are getting these operations these days. No wonder the baby boomers are so active! I think we are both more cheerful to be back in the home environment :)

  7. Patricia, foggy days are mysterious and pretty. You'll be wearing jeans and boots soon, and we're wearing shorts and sandals here. I'm glad your husband is doing well from his surgery. What a cute picture of little Aussie drawing and using his imagination. The blouse you made is so pretty, love the colors. You are quite a seamstress. May I ask what red jelly is? Never heard of that.

Wishing you happy June days, Patricia!

    love, ~Sheri

    1. Yes, so true, we only rarely see fog, so I enjoy the mystery and drama. I gave my new boots an outing to church last Sunday in the fog. Ah, red jelly in Australia - like jello I guess, made from jelly crystals which come in a packet, basically colour, flavour, sugar and gelatine. Stir in boiling water and it sets. Simple for a little guy if I pour the water. I enjoyed making the shirt, but I am Very Slow - it took me about 3 weeks, a bit at a time.

  9. Hi Trish. So pleased Mr C is home, Paul and I wish him well on his path to recovery. Always looks like fun when Little Aussie visits, as a pastry chef loving your dessert activity. Please let me know when you are rostered on for the Marvel exhibition. Just spent two days in Sydney, at the Powerhouse museum there is an exhibition featuring wedding outfits. The earliest dress was from around 1843, Nicole Kidmans wedding dress is on display as well. Have a super weekend. Joanita

  10. Happy to hear, Mr. C's surgery went well, and he is now in therapy. I bet seeing his family was wonderful therapy too.

I miss having a youngster to take to exhibits. Everyone in my world has grown up.

That is a gorgeous blouse, Trish. I love it!!

Wow, Queensland produces the most beautiful flowers!

    1. It is nice to have a young person around to take to such exhibitions, and also movies like Lego Movie, which I enjoyed. We are making the most of our only Aussie grandson - too soon he will be a teen.
Meantime, new knees are not for the faint-hearted!
