GREENERY

Hello Dear Reader,

Are you waiting to hear the 2017 Pantone Colour of the Year?

Thought so...

It is 'Greenery'

Yes, green as a lorikeet's feathers...

green as a gum leaf...

green as grass,

on a bright, sunshiny day..

and green as the leaves on our young Jacaranda tree, which has belatedly decided to bloom for the second consecutive year.

No, I didn't see it coming either.
Whoever heard of a colour called 'greenery'??

Remember the Great Agapanthus Massacre of a few weeks ago, when we cut them all back to the ground in the interests of snake safety?
Well, you can't keep those suckers down...
look at the stems shooting up, and two blue blooms have arrived today.
We love a hardy plant at the Cardinal Nest.

Love these mini gardenias which bloom for Christmas..

Look at the Obama girls, two beautiful young ladies now....
only little girls eight years ago when they came to the White House.
And Michelle looks younger and younger..
What a great Christmas card.

I made a Christmas cake.
Tomorrow we may make a boiled Christmas pudding.
The Canadians are still here, having a lovely time.

Have a great pre-Christmas week..

XXXXX

  1. The little Canadians must be loving the sunshine, and all of the exotic animals and flowers that they are seeing - these experiences will live forever in their memories.
Your young Jacaranda tree is beautiful.
Greenery! a colour for me best kept outdoors as you have shown.

    1. Yes indeed Rosemary, I can't imagine a sofa or curtains in that strong green, let alone as a fashion fabric. Yes the boys are loving the swimming pool, although a heatwave last week was a bit difficult for them, and they love the animals. The four-year old calls all the flowers Jacarandas! It would be fun to know what they go back and tell their friends at school.

  2. So many new experiences for your Canadian grandchildren, and I bet they are enjoying it all so much! I'm thinking you must be getting a little bit tired by now though. Not tired of having them there, just tired of having to provide food and entertainment for so many extra people for an extended period of time. I know I feel that way towards the end of having people visit.

    1. Ah, Kristie, you understand, the fatigue one tries to hide, while enjoying the magic moments. Yes, there have been some necessary Nanna Naps in the afternoons..
They are going to Sydney for a week, during which I will do my Christmas prep, then they will be back for more magical times.

    1. I had to Google these parakeets, are they are a pretty green, if the photo is anything to go by. Nice contrast with a red beak. Well, they are all very much In Vogue for 2017 :) Happy Christmas Janneke

  4. I think of Gilbert and sullivan's "Greenery yallery" from "Iolanthe". But green is a lovely colour. We had a carpet in that shade once. Believe it or not it worked very well.

    1. Ah yes, Iolanthe, fondly remembered from my young chorister days, tripping hither and thither...
It is a greenery yallery shade indeed, and it would be interesting if it returned as a carpet colour. I can imagine how it might work, as green is nature's neutral after all.

  5. Maybe it is the green the Queen wore for her 90th celebrations? I saw it at the exhibition of her dresses - very bright indeed! The Obamas look like such a nice family, and we wish them well. Wonder what they will all do next? I am never ready for a heatwave, and always whinge and whine when they come :)

    1. It sure is a fresh and cheery colour green, Carrie.
I wonder how it will be embraced in 2017?
Lovely times with family, and Christmas is in the air. What could be nicer? xx

  8. I've just read and commented on a post about red, Patricia. Now we have greenery. I do get the difference! Lovely examples of fresh, natural things that grow. Have a lovely Christmas!

    1. Ah, red and green, it is definitely Christmas time.
After a week of storms, we have plenty of Greenery around here, which is a change from the large amount of brown we see in hot dry Summer! Have an excellent Christmas too, Val. x

  9. I always wonder how they choose the color for the year. I like green - but maybe a softer version. Have a wonderful rest of the visit with the Canadians. You will need a nice long rest come the New Year.

    1. I wonder that too, Darla, but alas it is not revealed. I like green too, but this one amuses me as few will wear it. Having a week's rest until Christmas as the family have gone adventuring to see more of Australia. However, Christmas cooking and gifting calls....

  10. Trish, looks like the Canadians are having a lovely Christmas visit. What a thrill to get up close to a kangaroo. Here in the states some zoos let visitors feed a giraffe, which I have done, so now I have to put a kangaroo on my bucket list!

I wonder if you might consider posting your recipe for Christmas pudding? Perhaps we will make it too, and certainly, it will be of interest to readers.

Believe it or not, just yesterday I talked to a co-worker about the color lime green. I said I love the color, but unfortunately, it is a color I can't wear, because it washes me out. I said I'd have wear lime green shoes or somewhere away from my face. She had a pretty lime green tin to carry her drinking water, is how the subject arose.

    1. I think feeding kangaroos is probably easier than giraffes, who have such large heads from what I remember. We have seen them at Sydney zoo.
Yes, I could post my pudding recipe, good idea. I forgot to take photos as I went along, but could show the finished product. It is old-fashioned, boiled in a calico cloth.
I don't think many can wear this strong Greenery colour, but it will be amusing to see where it pops up. Shoes would be fun!

  11. Mini gardenias - how pretty. They are going on my list straightaway. There, they are on it! The boys look as though they are enjoying themselves very much - and as for Greenery, I bought a bit of craft cotton to make some casual pants and guess what colour?

    1. Those tini gardenias are pretty indeed, and really tough plants which suits us. Hope you can find some.
You will be in the height of fashion with your greenery casual pants - actually a good colour for Christmas, I think.
