MORE OF LONDON

No visit to London is complete without a Theatrical Treat in the West End....

and thus we Cardinals found ourselves at the Apollo Theatre, enjoying a wonderful musical production:

Yes, Michael Crawford, returning to the stage in 'The Go-Between',
and with that wonderful voice as enjoyable as it was years ago when he starred in Phantom of the Opera.  The play was intriguing, and we loved every minute.

We have been to the Wallace Collection, a glorious historic London town house full of Eighteenth century paintings, furniture and porcelain.

Who doesn't love 'The Swing' by Jean-Honore Fragonard (1732-1806)?

More in a later post...

Piccadilly Circus

Been to Liberty...

and met a long-time bloggie friend, Patricia, of A Place for Everything.
I bring good news: Patricia is returning to Blogland after a break.
We found we have soooo much in common - Twins!
Can't seem to link to Patricia's blog on Mr C's laptop, but there she is over on my sidebar.  Do pop in and say hello...

Been to Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery...

'Mr and Mrs Andrews' Thomas Gainsborough 1750

The Covent Garden markets..

Charing Cross..

and Benjamin Franklin house nearby.

St. Martin in the Fields..

and the British Library, right by the amazing St Pancras Hotel..

The weather has been very hot, then rather wet, cold and dull.
But there are always flowers at Covent Garden...

    1. We have done many things missed on previous visits - but there is always more! London is rich with cultural experiences. Unfortunately the visit to Sissinghurst had to be cancelled - perhaps another time.

  3. My goodness, you are certainly packing it in - and visiting some of my favourite haunts. Wonderful that you managed a trip to the theatre as well. I am wondering how you find the time to blog as well - you must be quite disciplined about this. And the Wallace Collection is superb.

    1. We have been here 12 days and do one special visit per day, so taking it at a gentle pace . Our joints don't like all the steps in the Underground! Some days I even have a nap. Might not manage to blog in Ireland though.

  9. London looks fantastic! Oh, how fun you met your blog friend. I've only met one so far in person, and she lived in the same town as me. I really like "The Swing" painting, it's delightful. Benjamin Franklin house sounds so interesting. I would have loved to browse through that.

    Happy days in London, Patricia.

    1. Everything we did was interesting, Sheri - London is a wonderful place to visit. The Benjamin Franklin house was an afterthought on a rainy day, but worth a look.
      We are back home now!

  11. You must be exhausted! I think you got about average weather for the time of year. I'm waiting to see how you are getting on in Ireland now. Weather there is usually rainier than here, but these days it's hard to tell!
I have never been to Franklin's house! That is one to put on my list. Thanks ! :)

    1. We did exhaust ourselves Jenny, and were a bit tired by the time the wedding arrived. We came back to Brisbane this morning but will be catching up with life for a few days. I would be interested to read what you think about the Franklin house. He lived there for quite a long time.
