HEARTS AND HEAT

On Valentine's Day we were greeted by this loving pair of lorikeets, sitting sweetly and forming a heart shape, just for us.

Mr C excelled with a beautiful bunch of blooms.
I made him a heart-shaped sponge cake, but my camera ate the photo...

It looked rustic, something like this, with a few store-bought red sugar roses.
Thank you Mr. Google.

Another heat wave is sweeping over us and it is still 38C -
as I type at 4.30 pm.

Trying to make the house look cool,
as the air-con, it seems, cannot be repaired.

Maybe we'll try and ride out the heat.
Some of us are saving to go to Ireland for a wedding...

Did you watch the BAFTAs?

Our Cate Blanchett looked fabulous in Alexander McQueen.

And I loved Julianne Moore's outfit.  So elegant.

DD says it is -30C at her place in Canada...

Here's the Not So Little Bebe enjoying the scene..
I may dream of snow tonight.

Keep cool, or warm, depending on your hemisphere.

  1. Those beautiful Lorikeets flying by to wish you both a Happy Valentines!
Mr C did very well - such beautiful red roses and frothy gypsophila.
You are going to love Ireland Trish - when do you go?
Big Bebe is growing taller with every photo!

    1. Wasn't that nice of the lorikeets to do that for us? Most mornings they just call for their food. We go to Ireland August/September, but have not booked it yet. Time for action... Hugs across the ditch xxx

  2. We are trying very hard to keep warm, but if I could send you a puff of cooling air I would! Shame that we can't just magically swap for a little bit! xx

    1. Yes, a weather exchange could reap benefits for us all, Amy. However, the earth needs the seasons to make the plants behave, so we'll just have to manage, he he

  3. Your photo of the Lorikeets would make a wonderful card. Such pretty birds. Hope your heat wave breaks soon. We are currently having a little taste of spring, I think we have some winter left to go though.

    1. Darla, you are welcome to copy my lorikeets image and use it for one of your lovely cards. I'd be thrilled if you did that! It seems early for Spring, but hopefully that might mean Autumn gets here early too?? I can only hope, it is my favourite season.

  4. The Lorikeets are beautiful!
We have been pelted by rain for days here in Victoria BC and the sun is shining today which is such a lovely treat...spring is almost here!

    1. Funny little birds are those lorikeets. I can hear them chattering outside as I type. I understand you have a lot of rain in BC, which might explain all the lovely flowers. Spring is coming - lovely!

  5. Patricia, I LOVE the picture of the little one with the red coat playing in the white snow. You should frame that! I told the girls that the Lorikeets come right up on your porch, and they couldn't believe how amazing they are. This is a good picture - they are such beautiful birds. The Velentine cake looks yummy, and love the red roses.

It's supposed to rain tomorrow, then warm up again. I think spring is going to arrive soon this year.

    love, ~Sheri

    1. Good idea, Sheri, I should make a copy for framing. I do love that photo. That is cute about the lorikeets - they are very social and I hear them chattering right now. Spring coming early to you too! xx

  6. I really do love these wonderful lorikeets. No + 38 degr.C. here, neither - 30 degr.C. but 0 degr.C.

    1. Janneke, it seems you have found the perfect climate! I think a happy medium would be very pleasant these days.

  7. Oh, I hope you have more comfortable weather soon. I loved seeing the lorikeets, how beautiful. I once had the chance to feed them nectar in a zoo exhibit and they were the sweetest little birds, in captivity anyway. I hope you're having a good week so far.

    1. How wonderful that you have fed nectar to lorikeets. They absolutely love that! I feel sorry for them in captivity, but of course it enables more people to enjoy these funny sweet and social little birds. It is much cooler this morning which = much better mood all round :))

  8. You have another exciting trip to look forward to this year Patricia - Ireland is a lovely country to visit and small enough for you to cover plenty of different areas.
Looks as if your little family have a good covering of snow in Canada - for some reason the snow has past us by this winter.

    1. Yes, a little bit of Ireland, and can't resist a return visit to dear old London. So many good things to see and do... It seems all the snow has settled in North America this year. The little boys now have new ice skates - essential for Canadians.

  9. Beautiful birds, elegant clothes, flowers and cake! As always a lovely post, Patricia! I'd still rather have 38 above than 39 below...any day!

    1. Hmm, I guess you are right Val. Those below freezing temperatures do make normal life exceedingly difficult! Glad you enjoyed all the pretties.

  10. We've warmed up quite a bit since the weekend ... now sitting at 0C tonight, but so much snow today! I didn't think we'd get any this winter. Your heat wave sounds unbearable. I can take the -30, but I dread the heat that you have. We toured Italy one summer (July!) and most days rose to 40C ... Hot! I'd never felt such heat, but I now know what you are feeling. Those lorikeets are so sweet! I would love to have those pretty birds sitting in my yard too.Hope things cool down for you soon,
    Wendy

    1. It is surprising, the heat in Italy. We were in Rome in early September and it was 34c and baking hot. I had to buy a cooler shirt to wear. Bring on the Autumn, I say.

  11. If I had worked life out right, I'd be able to work and live in each hemisphere to get the most sun, but alas, I must take what comes. Not-so-little babe enjoys the cold and snow better than me. :)

Those lorikeets are gorgeous. I don't believe they live in the US, and I haven't seen one live and in person. Cute pottery and lovely plants also!

    Keep cool!

    1. Lorikeets are an Australian native bird Debra. Jennifer has seen them in a zoo - perhaps somewhere in the US. I have seen them in a zoo in New Zealand and felt sad that they were in captivity. But that is the way of showing wildlife around the world.
Sun is good, but too much is not so good :) My skin is very old and tanned, despite a lifetime of using sunscreen.

  12. I'm sorry you're suffering yet another heatwave, Patricia, but your Valentine's Day sounds to have been a happy event. It must seem almost surreal to you to think of your daughter's family at -30C when it's so bakingly hot where you are. I can guarantee it will be cooler and very green when you are in Ireland. :)
