WE'RE HAVING A HEATWAVE

Yes, a tropical heatwave.
Much warmer than the temperature of 93 (F) in the song, and the day gets hotter.
Expecting over 100 (F) - 37/38C today and Tuesday.

Our air-conditioner broke down.
Nobody is interested in fixing it, just selling us a new one: $2,700, thank you!

Still searching for a tradesman....

I'm off to the Mall to cool down for a few hours.

Be good.

  1. Patricia, it's so strange to hear you're having a heat wave when we're right in the middle of a cold winter. Lovely flower picture. Ella Fitzgerald is a favorite of me and the girls. Try to stay cool, my Australia friend.

    1. Ella was amazing, wasn't she, Sheri. I like her version of the Heatwave song. Our hibiscus are blooming - that is a sign of the heat!

  2. I should like to have a tiny bit of your heatwave. I'm sorry for your air-conditioner hope you get it repaired, in the meantime stay cool in the shopping mall. By the way a beautiful hot colored Hibiscus.

    1. Happy to send you, say, 10 deg C of our heat Janneke. Wish I could :) Forecast even hotter tomorrow - might be a day for a movie.

  3. My dearest friend who lives in Brisbane phoned yesterday for a chat - she said it was unbearable and she was sitting on the verandah hoping for a little breeze!

I think the mall with aircon sounds a good idea Patricia and keeping well hydrated.
I hope you can find a tradesman - that's expensive for a new one.

    1. Yes, it is certainly close to unbearable today, and tomorrow forecast even hotter. It was 39 in our area today. Trying to remember to drink - the heat seems to affect my brain! hugs to you too xx

  4. What little beauties your orange Hibiscus are - I suspect that the shopping mall will be busy? and good business for those selling ice-cream and cold drinks.
Isn't it ridiculous that your air-con cannot be repaired? Good luck in finding someone who can.

    1. Yes, good business for anything to beat the heat Rosemary. I am enquiring further for a repair man. I am not giving in so easily. At least I would like to have a proper diagnosis. When possible, people are flocking to beaches, and certainly it is the weather for cold drinks and food. Salads reign here!

  5. Pfff, poor you! That must be dreadful with no airco. We had similar teperatures in Romania last summer and it became hard to cope with after a week. Good luck with getting it fixed!

    1. First world problem, I know, and I wish they would design houses more to trap breezes. Seems it is easier to make a 'brick box' and put in an air-con. Not that there are any breezes to catch today :) Hopefully, cooler weather by Thursday.

  6. Ooh, 93 is a bit hot. Although dry heat is better than humid. Lucky you have a suitable cooling off pool! :)

    1. It eventually went to 39C yesterday, and the same expected today, with humidity close to 100%! Really is a tropical heat wave. Lots of warnings on TV about staying indoors and drinking a lot. Yes, the pool is good, but only late in the day. The scorching sun is far too hot to use it in the hottest hours - even the tile surrounds would burn your feet trying to get in :)

    1. Balmy is always good - bring on the Autumn, I say.
Going south is the thing for Canadians - our daughter's inlaws are in Florida over the winter, and it looks lovely. Fingers crossed re the A/c

  8. Trish, beautiful flower. We are having a bit of high temps in Texas (80s) for this time of year, but it's supposed to cool down on Wednesday.

  9. Heat and no working A/C? Goodness, hope you find a repairman soon. You can only spend so much time in the mall but on the other hand I expect there are lots of movie theaters.

    1. Yes, movies are good, but I mainly like to walk around to get some exercise. Too hot to go for my normal walks at the moment. Hopefully it will all pass by the end of the week. Have a good week Darla.

  11. Hope you get your air-con fixed, Patricia. That is hot! Here we're shivering as the gales whistle round the house in yet another storm. Brrr....

    1. Another storm! They will run out of names for them soon Perpetua. Such extremes of weather at opposite ends of the earth. I'd quite like a gale whistling round here right now :)

    1. Yes, we have several hibiscus shrubs in different colours. They are trouble free - rarely prune them, never fertilize, just a bit of water and the flower away...

  13. Oh you poor dears! Years ago it happened to me. We had a heat wave, and my air conditioner broke during it. I bought a new one, but the business that sold and was to deliver it had a blackout of their own, so I had to wait a week. Not an experience I care to repeat! Don't be too proud to grab pillows and stretch out on the floor. It is the coolest place in your house.

We are in winter, but after the blizzard of snow (over 26 inches) New York City is unseaonably warm - 58 degrees F today! It must be global warming. Those poor polar bears, if not for them, I'd like the warmth. Who wants a cold, frigid winter?

I hope you cool again very soon!

    2. Aha, you know the feeling. Poor old air-con just decides it has had enough. Had not thought of the floor, but now that you mention it.... Predictions for lower temps tomorrow - phew. I saw the snow of New York on TV - amazing. Even saw Hugh Jackman out playing in it. Only last week, and now it is hot for you. Definitely climate change going on.

  14. Yowzers Trish!! Those kinds of temps are just so far beyond anything I can imagine right now. I think I'd turn into an instant puddle. Lol!

Good luck on the air conditioning trials. Hope something is resolved one way or another soon. In the meantime, though, I like the way you think. Escaping to mall air conditioning is a win win. Get cooled off and a little fun shopping! ;)

Stay cool. Blessings dear Gal! xoxo

  15. Good Lord, I don't even know what to say. You have the right idea going to the mall. I used to do the same when I lived in a house without any climate control. I hope you had fun. I hear they usually have ice cream at the mall... :)

    1. Hello Jennifer, wish I had some of your snowy weather right here, right now! No icecream, but nice and cool at the mall.

  16. I'm sos sorry your air conditioner has broken down, Patricia. What awful timing. Unfortunately it seems as though appliances only have bad timing when it comes to breaking down. I hope you are able to find a repair person very soon.

  17. I'm late catching up with this post - I hope by now the temperature has dropped. What is it nowadays about trades - we had to change our airconditioner, at great expense, a few years ago, and the one that was already in was not that old. Makes one wonder...

    1. Yes, temps dropped over the weekend, but quite hot this morning. I wonder too: is it all planned obsolescence? Trying another electrician this week.

  18. Our furnace cracked! during in the middle of a cold winter one year (replaced). And our a/c stopped working during summertime. Never fails that they will let you down when you need them most. I hope you were able to repair rather than replace. It's been a few days now since you wrote this, so hopef

    1. I know! They have a great sense of timing, these appliances. Our daughter's furnace 'died' recently, just when the snow was heaviest. Thank goodness someone came over the same day to fix things. The heat abated a bit over the weekend, but we have a long summer still to go.
