CELEBRATIONS AND SUMMER MADNESS

Congratulations to Princess Anne's daughter, Zara and her husband Mike Tindall, on the birth of their daughter.

As I calculate it, the score is now even:

Princess Anne has three (3) grand-daughters...
The Red Cardinals have three (3) grand-sons..

Whose move next?

and Michelle Obama turned a radiant 50!
Michelle has been rather quieter on the fashion front over the past year...

However, her lovely red ballgown from the 2013 Presidential Inauguration, has just been put on show at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington.

Defying the continuing insane heatwave, Mr Cardinal and I sallied forth to visit my Dad at the Old Folks Home.  Dad loves shopping, and the kind carers regularly take him to a local flea market.

This is how he is decorating his room..

Every time we go there is another little birdie..

So that's where she gets it from, you might be thinking.

And you would be right!

Dad's favourite treat..  Cappuccino!!

The Red Cardinal Garden of Neglect has all but given up.
However, I found a few of these old stalwarts bravely putting on a little show.
Mother Nature perseveres..

Expecting 39 deg.C hereabouts tomorrow..
I may spend most of the day in a cool Shopping Mall.

Have a good week

XXXX

  1. That really is just wayyyyyy too hot isn't it. It is so nice that your Dad is decorating his room, he must be content if he is prettying up the place. So, you are planning a joining with the royal family are you! You will need a selection of hats for that then!! xx

    1. Yes, much too hot, and I'm admitting defeat and hiding out in movie theatres for a few days. Two years ago Dad said he'd be better off to die than go into care - and now he is perfectly content there, and declares he has the best room in the place!

  2. Do you know the answer to that conundrum yourself Patricia? I have five grandchildren from two sons, and never expected to have that many - 4 girls and 1 boy.
It is lovely that your father is still so interested in birds - it must have been a great passion for him. This coming weekend we have what is known as The Big Garden Birdwatch. It is hoped that as many people as possible will spend an hour over the weekend counting the birds in their garden in order to give an indication of the ups and downs of the bird populations as compared with previous years.

    1. Five grandchildren! That is wonderful Rosemary, and I imagine the sole boy is extra special. We continue to hope for a little girl - somehow, sometime... The Big Garden Birdwatch sounds like a great idea, and something Dad would definitely approve of. As you might remember, he was a bird reporter for many years. He's pretty keen on butterflies, too.

  3. Hi!
Everything equestrian catches my eyes, so I´ll add my congratulations for Zara via you ; )
    Are there baby boys expected..?
It must be exhausting waiting for your temperatures to change.
After a week of cold ( brrr ) weather, I am already exhausted and waiting for a change, knowing perfectly well, that we have to go through the snow phase first, months to wait..
    The cappuccino looks delicious!

    1. Hi Mette, how are you? Very cold weather is just as exhausting as very hot, isn't it, and as you say, could be months to wait. Sometimes we have heatwaves into April :( The three grandsons are Little Aussie in Australia, and the Little Bebe and his big brother in Canada. No more babies on the horizen - yet...
I like the mother/daughter Olympic photo of Zara; wonder how soon her little girl will be on a pony!

  4. The heat wave you are suffering through seems unrelenting! It's so miserable doing anything when it is that hot. Even going somewhere in the car involves baking for the first five minutes until the air conditioner starts cooling the inside of the vehicle down. I'm glad you were able to go see your dad in spite of the heat. I love that he is enjoying himself collecting the birds!

    1. Yes, it does seem unrelenting, Kristie. You describe it very well - the car gets hot, the house gets hot, it is too hot for gardening and the garden is dying. We had to keep Dad's outing short because of it. His bird collection makes me smile, too.

  5. We are spending a week at Port Macquarie so it's very nice to be by the water not so hot. It's nice that your dad likes to still get out and shop.

    1. I get my shopping gene from Dad, not from Mum who wasn't really interested. Dad enjoys the hunt, and had little interest in taking objects from his former home into care. He is putting his own stamp on his room.

  6. You know, my grandfather loved birds and my mother does too. So that must be a common trait that runs in families, I think. :)

    1. That is really nice Jennifer. The bird loving certainly runs in our family, and all of us have one or two bird reference books. Dad remains the best-informed, even aged 93 and with dementia!

  7. Your dad's room looks great, with all the interesting bird bric a brac. I bet he gets a kick out of it. Forgot to say that the pink jeans outfit looks lovely!

    1. Dad is certainly personalising that nursing home room, Jenny, and he is good at finding a bit of bric a brac. Glad you like my pink jeans outfit! Those girls made me do it, of course :)

  8. Your dad has good tastes, and the cappuccino looks divine! I have been placing bird seeds and bread scraps in the planter outside my double kitchen windows for the birds. Each day when the male and female cardinals come to feed I think of you. I have tried to get a good photo, but the screen prevents a good image. We have so many cardinals this winter, plus lots of others as well. The tiny chickadees and tufted titmice are my favorites.

    1. How fantastic, having the cardinals feeding right outside your window...Jealous!! I do hope you catch a nice photo some time. I like the cute little chickadees, too. But I should not be disloyal to our lorikeets, who provide constant entertainment, and even conversation when Mr Cardinal is away :)

  9. Nice to see all the birds your Dad is decorating with. It is also great to know that he has settled into life at the Care Home. Mom lives at a Sr. Center but it is independent living with her own apartment. The transition to care (if and when) will be difficult I think. You give me hope that it would work out eventually.

    1. Hi Darla, Transition to care can be difficult. Despite Dad's forebodings, he was very familiar with this place. He had been involved in the original fund-raising to build it many years ago, and he and Mum had volunteered there over the years. Once getting over the shock of no longer being in his own house, he has thrived in care.

  10. Aaahhh, there's my beloved hummingbird. It's my favorite bird. Your dad's nest is nice, and I love to go to flea markets too! That red dress is gorgeous, don't ya think? I think she has great taste in fashion.

The Cappuccino looks amazing - I want one! Thank you for your nice comment on my "sweet" post today. I appreciate it so.

    Love,

    1. I hadn't realised it was a hummingbird, Sheri, but when I looked again, of course it is! Yes, the red dress is gorgeous and looked fabulous on the night. Your sweet post was perfect for Valentines!

  11. Oooh that is hot isn't it - I can't imagine how it must be for you. I love your Dad's collection of birds and it must be a great comfort to know that he has such kind carers who take him shopping and look out for him during the week. The cappuccino is exactly what I'd like right now, mainly for the chocolate sprinkled on top! I have five grand children now from my two children - the eldest is almost 16 years and the youngest 16 months. Have a good weekend Patricia.
