I FINISHED THE SHIRT!

I finished my blue and white shirt and must say I am pleased with the result.
McCalls 6436 worked well, with minor adjustments to fit.

New blue tote has been out and about to accompany the shirt ...

and I am happy to see cobalt is extending into next season:

Behold Michelle at the State of the Union address ..

Three new patterns have arrived from Club BMV -
I have so many sewing ideas in my head, and I know I have too many projects already awaiting my attention.
I can't wait to attempt M6278, if only I could find suitable material.
Don't know about others sewists, but I find it difficult in Brisbane to find fabrics which I love ..
I have tried internet shopping with indifferent results.
Maybe I need to try some new sites.
Any suggestions, anyone?

Another rustic cake appeared yesterday.
Reader, we ate it!

It is raining again, lightly, and the garden has finally started to bloom.
I love the approach of Autumn.

Have a fantastic weekend!

xxxx

  1. Hello Patricia:
Well, we who cannot thread a needle are full of awe regarding your shirt!! It looks such fun and we are sure that it fits beautifully and looks wonderful on you.

We cannot advise about fabrics as we are never looking for any, but we wish that we were closer to share the shirt and eat the delicious cake!!!!

    Happy weekend!

    1. Thank you Jane and Lance, I love to sew. My mother was my earliest teacher and had me stitching at 4, starting piano at 5, and so it went on. I am grateful for all her tuition in the gentle arts.
Would love to share the cake with the world of bloggers!
      Happy weekend to you, to!

  2. The shirt is gorgeous... and Michelle clearly needs to borrow your tote. Her clothes always look so good on her. I suspect sometimes, it is her body that makes them look so good...and not the clothes at all. The cake looks great to...or should I say, looked, as I assume it has all gone by now. It is good to see you are enjoying life so much...keep it up ! We survivors need to enjoy it all ! Jx

    1. Dear Janice, thank you. lol at the idea of Michelle and the tote, but they would certainly match in colour! In a vague gesture towards general health and weight-watching I cut the cake in half and froze one piece. Now we can have another little party next weekend. I hope enjoying life is key to survival, as sometimes I worry that I don't take things seriously enough: you know, the environmental stuff and the food additives etc. If it has Organic written on it, I buy it. At least I'm doing something! xx

  3. Your shirt is lovely - it reminds me of beautiful blue and white delft ware. No wonder you ate the cake.

    1. Hi Sulky, and thank you. Spring or Autumn, both mean nice weather and plenty of flower action!

  5. What a lovely shirt. I don't sew but my Mom made almost all my clothes when I was growing up. It was so exciting picking out the pattern and then looking for just the right fabric. Hope you find your perfect fabric soon.

    1. Thanks Darla, my Mum sewed a lot too, it was the way back in those days. I also grew up going to the habadashers shop to pick the pattern and fabric - it was years before I had a ready-made dress.

  6. Love your shirt! Very crisp and stylish - did I spy that fabric out at Sckafs??? I love to visit Kerryn's Fabric World on the Sunshine Coast, but only make it up there about once a year. And The Fabric Store in Fortitude Valley is worth a visit. Gardam's is out at Indooroopilly now as well, so you can do Gardams /Sckafs /Spotlight in one trip.

The other place to look is the Australian Sewing Guild. They are having a fabric and textile tour of Brisbane in July. If you look at the following site...

    http://sewinspirationalevents.com.au/forms/1347581203.pdf

...they list the fabric stores that the ASG tour will be visiting!!!! And I do figure, that if these stores are good enough for the ASG, then they are well-worthy of a visit by me!

As for online, I haven't ventured down that pathway, except for using Knitwit Australia. I am a member with them, and love that they send out little mini samples of every fabric each season...

    http://www.knitwit.com.au/

...plus a newsletter with patterns and ideas for using their fabric with. You often see them advertised in Stitches Australia magazine.

Well, raining again this morning, I have a game of volleyball to attend this afternoon, and one of basketball this evening. The morning will be dedicated to prowling through Club BMV - patterns are down to 99c!!!!!

  7. Hi Judith, thank you for going to so much trouble for me. I have checked out those links already. I think I'd better become a knitwit! The fabric and textile tour looked entertaining, and it is fun to see our city represented this way. It does emphasise that fabric shops are a specialist location these days. There are one or two I did not know, so will keep a list for future explorations. I bought 3 new-release patterns this week from Club BMV - total cost $7. Amazing!

  8. Very nice shirt and it appears you did a very professional job. Love that blue tote. Love cobalt! I am so happy that the asteroid didn't cause you any problem down there, as it was said it would be nearest Australia and very visible when it passed over. And what a coincidence a small one hit Russia on the same day! What's going on in our Universe?

    1. Thank you Sanda, I love the shirt. Yay for cobalt!!
Well, not only the asteroid passed over me, but so did the media references to it - I did not even notice it was coming near Australia. Which is just as well, I didn't have to worry about it :)

  9. I prefer large prints, and therefore your shirt looks fine.
August coming already??? This difference of the seasons is SO puzzling!

    1. Crazy seasons these days Mette. It is probably a temporary respite, as the heatwaves can continue on through April. At least we have variety!

  10. Hi Valerie, I have looked at that website and really like it, so into the Favourites box it goes. Meanwhile, I went to a new Spotlight store today and found something Really Nice (for a change!). Glad you like my shirt. xx

  12. Cobalt is such a stunning shade, blue is thin on the ground in my wardrobe but it's a colour I would love to own more of, I love all of the cornflower blue shades too.

    1. Blue has been a rarity in my wardrobe too, but I am making up for lost time these days. The cornflower blue is really gorgeous too, and great for spring.

  13. Fabric Mart is a site I have used and liked. Casual Elegance was always great, too. (They featured fabrics to make Loes Hinse patterns.) Marcy Tilden? (designs Vogue patterns - as does her sister) has fabric for sale at the sewing show in Washington State, and probably has a website, too. Waechter's has a good reputation, but I have not ordered from them in many, many years. I have never ordered from Mood, but have heard only good things from people who have.
But my favorite has to be Michael's. You will swoon over the hand of their fabrics - from Linens to Cottons to Wools fabulous. The price is so low for the quality.

  14. Wow,thanks Beryl. There are quite a few here I've never heard of, so I am off to give it a try. Some US fabric sites won't take international online orders, but I will persevere until I find one who will! Many thanks
