CREAM BUN, ANYONE?

The other day our children were reminiscing about a fond childhood memory:
their father used to bring them Cream Buns every Sunday after church.
As we all avoid bakeries these days, we wondered if they were still made.
Wonder no more, as at my friend V's place yesterday, she produced a cute little mini version.
Reader, I ate it, and it was Delicious to the Max!

The strange Bush Stone-curlews are back in our area, their eerie wailing punctuating the night.
Sometimes I wake and it seems we are surrounded by ghosts!
They are weird, nocturnal birds, and quite odd looking, with large yellow eyes and long legs.
They hang about on the ground, especially in long grass, and forage for frogs, insects, any small mammals, or snakes, particularly on moonlit nights.
During the day they tend to stand motionless, particularly when there are people around but they are strong flyers when sufficiently motivated.  Apparently they are ecologically similar to the road-runners in North America.
I took this photo in the car-park of our local zoo, and they never moved a muscle, despite our chatter and the interest of our grandson.

I like birds, but these guys are seriously peculiar.

My pansies are bursting into bloom at a daily rate of excellence.
It being Spring, and all.

Yellow sandals?  What yellow sandals ...

Pink jeans? Oh, ok, I succumbed to the coloured jean fad -
it is the affect of the Spring sunshine ...

I hope you have a Happy Weekend,
wherever you are ...

xxxx

  1. Cream buns and curlews! Cream buns are one of my husbands favourites but needs to avoid these days. Oh and curlews, yes they are a tad odd. When we lived on acreage they stalked our letterbox at the end of our long driveway. Funny funny creatures.
Very nice sandals Patricia very nice indeed. Enjoy wearing them.

Glad you like my new summer gear - it all works in our hot sun, which apparently is much the same in Portugal.

  3. Those birds are very mysterious. I like your comparing them to ghosts. We have red kites here who soar expertly on the hot air that comes off the hill, but their cry is so mournful and sad. Birds that eat snakes must be good news for you!

Put me down for a cream bun too! I love all your beautiful bright things - your summer's on its way! xxx

    1. Dear Mrs E, Maybe the red kites sound the same? When the curlews get started around midnight, it feels like Wuthering Heights! When I first heard them I thought a child was being abused.
Cream bun for you, too! xxx

    2. We were listening to the birds and wind whistling round the house at the weekend (its turned a bit cold) and my daughter reflected what a different book Wuthering Heights would've been if it had been called Honeysuckle Cottage (the name of our new house). We killed ourselves laughing - can you imagine Heathcliffe storming round a place so cheerfully named? xxx

    3. Never, Mrs E!! Only the sinister for old Heathcliffe!
Honeysuckle Cottage is absolutely gorgeous and cheerful a name - you will be so happy there!

  5. At least your birds are interesting! I only have the screechings of seagulls to listen to. Those are very pretty sandals, and I'm a fan of bright jeans.

    1. Hi Sulky, there is no doubt we have interesting birds round here - I don't mind seagulls, but maybe they get tiresome if it is continual. Bright jeans will be going for a tour round the place this weekend! x

  6. Great sandals! Yellow is my favorite color and it's nice to see some cute shoe in it. Is that a Red Phoenix necklace with those jeans? Nice way to tie the yellow shoes to the pink pants. Never had a Cream Cake - but they look delicious. And those are seriously spooky birds. Scary when they ignore young boy's attentions.

    1. Well-spotted Beryl. That is the RPE Match my Missoni necklace. Too bad I don't actually own any Missoni. I am not surprised you like yellow too - it is a colour for sunshiny people just like you! Cream cakes are right up there on the list of culinary sins - all deliciousness and probably no nutritional value whatsoever :)

  7. What a delightful post, Patricia. I enjoyed each and every featured item. I have never had a cream bun, but it looks delicious. Curlews also not familiar to me, but an interesting creature it is! Pansies, pink pants, yellow sandals: what joys for spring. Enjoy!

  8. Thank you for the lovely post.
To be honest I´m SO in envy to your whereabouts right now, as we are saying our goodbyes to the summer, which never came, and you are just entering a wonderful spring.
Oh, I´d like to be doped and travel to Australia right now.
Doped, so I would not have to suffer from the jet lag ; )!

    1. Thanks Mette, Spring is putting a spring into my step right now. Doped is the only way to travel to the other side of the world, in my opinion also! Works well for me on the trips to Ottawa :)
